My Solar powered canoe really works! Ever thought about build a solar powered boat? How about a car? Bike? Solar anything? Well I've spent decades thinking about, but always kind of in the back of my mind. Last summer I'd had enough of daydreaming and actual built a solar powered canoe. I used a deep cycle battery, solar panels and mppt solar charge controller for efficient solar power and electric storage. Plus an electric outboard trolling motor.
And it works! If you'd like to learn more, let me know. I may do a follow up video going into more detail, and I may even build are larger version that's more stable and more powerful.

Really cool build! I just bought a 180w flexible panel and am planning to try something similar. It's incredible how lightweight the panels have gotten even since this video. Inspiring!

I am building a outrigger canoe. The outriggers are capped 8" schedule 40 pipes fiberglassed and smoothed. I have built a cross mout system similar to yours, but put carpeted boards on mine for my dog. I am thinking of a combination flexible solar panel and mast/sail system. When wind is good, slow sail. I might need to install a keel board. The solar panels are on the shadetop. I also have a 16' runabout with a 135hp evinrude. I am considering making the canoe system removable to install on the 16. Use the gas motor to haul ass to fishing spot. Then troll for a few hours on electric/solar and still he able to start gas engine for return. I like these ideas.

We really need you to do another solar build right now to demonstrate the practical application of battery storage. There are probably a lot of people who don’t realize that you can use those things to charge a battery that you could run a thing like a trolling motor off of for many hours. What else can be accomplished with that?

Don't need a charge controller , I've a old 1950s trolling motor and deep cell battery with a 20 watt solar and I go all day fishing no problem, no problem .

I'm planning on making a powered trimaran out of a registered canoe, with an old hobie cat. I would suggest using longer outriggers, and making your center of gravity lower, such as placing the battery in the hull, and not on the seat. Great concept though.

i would: add 1 more pontoon on other side, THEN add a solar roof, wich would A, give u more room, and stability, AND give u more space for more solarpanels.

How big is your trolling motor and battery? My 46 lbs trolling motor and tractor battery run for approximately 2 at full throttle, pushing a 12' aluminum boat. Thanks for sharing video

Nice. That's a 40lb motor? Do you find it powerful enough? I'm about to do a similar setup but for a 17ft rowboat. Be about 500lb with boat and people. I'm wondering whether to go up to 55lb or if that'd just be overkill? I'd also like to hear about the amp hours of your battery and how much time your getting on the motor with it.

I think you will find 40lb sufficient. I get 4kts with a 40lb motor on a dinghy with only 12ft waterline. It draws 30A. On a 17ft hull you might run out of prop pitch at higher speed. A model airplane prop will remedy that and give much better overall efficiency. A 10x5 or 10x6 prop would be good options depending on load and conditions.

4:35 in the video, you mentioned battery that can make you last 10 hours. What are the name of those batteries please?

The problem is the canoe. I had one once and I called it a barge. Get one with a better Hull and you will see a significant increase in performance.

Please elaborate. What do you mean by “better hull”. Do you mean longer? Wider? Different material? Different shape? And “significant increase in performance “, do you mean more speed? Better stability? Better maneuverability? I’m thinking about building a solar powered canoe so I’m researching. There are so many factors to consider, I’m getting to the point of just building it without so much concern for getting it perfect. It can always be tweaked later.

Because why I was in the hospital I was a nurse in the hospital taking care of others people has the virus 👩‍⚕️ because that was my job to take care of people and check on what I saw for my own eyes made me cry a lot I never cry 💔 but after that I just got up and try to do my best now I'm the patient's now I'm just letting you
