One tip for anyone watching. If you remove the driver side A pillar trim, there's a connector for the headliner so you don't have to remove all that wiring.
Manuel Rodríguez I didn’t show it in the video, but it did help when I moved the seat forward farther. The door is just too small for it to come out without bending any. They probably put the headliner in through the front windshield before putting the glass in.
I'm glad to say 8 months later, the headliner looks just like it did the day I installed it. It has no signs of sagging or fading whatsoever! I'm thinking about offering a precut sheet of suede headliner and a bottle of 3M adhesive as a kit to make it easier for everyone to do this at home. Do you guys think that's a good idea?
impressive mod. and when there is nothing to do while waiting impatiently at traffic lights you can rub it and feel good about your toil installing it. please pardon my fetish. on a more serious note, my first car had cigarette stains on the roof liner above the drivers seat and it showed. to make the interior look more groovy i painted the roof liner with matt black house paint. the darker interior made the car noticeably safer to drive at night. so i did the same thing to my next 2 cars.
I bought a big roll on Ebay, but I can't remember the exact brand. So far it's held up great. I don't have any sagging or fading at all. Do it right the first time and you'll never have to worry about it. I've thought about selling a kit to do this. It would include a pre-cut template in suede for the GT-R along with a bottle of the adhesive and a razor blade. What do you think about that idea?
@@eatmoreeats9566 I never made it around to putting together a full kit, but you can still purchase the materials online. The headliner is still holding strong with absolutely no signs of wear or sagging even in the most difficult bends.
Thanks for this great video. It's really helpful. Did this GTR have airbags above the headliner? I really want to do this but am wondering if using a different fabric on the headliner could affect the airbags functionality in any way.
James Appleby It did have airbags on the top, but I think they’d probably deploy through the space between the headliner and the door seal instead of going through the headliner itself, but I’m not sure. The material I used was meant to be used as a headliner also.
Thanks very much for the reply. That makes complete sense. I've already got most of the rear interior parts out to clean and fit new seats so think I might go the extra mile to try and pull the headliner out and do this! Just one last question if that's ok, did you stick the suede down in 3 goes (full centre, side, side) or did you break it down further? Thanks again, James.
I'm pretty sure the headliners are put in the car before the windshield, because there's no way to get it out without bending it a little bit. The material this headliner is made of doesn't crack or show signs of bending once it has the new material on top.
