Yes, I really spent that much on a plant that looks almost identical to a $20 Walmart Thai Constellation. My excuse for doing what I did is that girls just wanna have fun.

Lion’s mane mycelium is always kinda sus looking, but it looks totally fine. You can usually tell contamination because the mycelium will form a boundary with the contaminant

Lions mane even if it has a bit of contamination is usually fine.

agreed. Lions mains always very wispy and pathetic looking. But it's very resilient, think I've had a bunch of cultures of a few different hericium sp. that's 3 years old at this point. All show great life when tested on agar.

Watching this just like a meditation/zen music. I'm a PhD with expertise in tissue culture, genome editing, etc. Although I'm not learning anything new here, but i like your enthusiasm. Wish you all the best.

Ouch, I feel for you, I just found this plant for less than a $100 in Canada and I had no idea it even existed. Epipremnums are quite underrated!

Do you have a plan against viroids? I just learnt that iso alcohol increases propagation risk of viroid infections considerably.

I so so love your content, you have me want to get into tv myself! I'm just worried about the phytohomones, especially the auxins. I really wanna do tc but I don't want to risk my health...

As long as you handle them carefully, it's not a big deal! i.e. wear gloves and I wouldn't store them near my food, but I also have more health anxiety than most people lol

Is there a reason you use an overhead flow hood vs a horizontal one ? I'm in the market and was wondering what your think was.

Hi Lauren, great video as always. What are those plastic containers called that you grow your tissue caltures in? Are they autoclavable? Or do they come sterile?
@plantsinjars
@plantsinjars 2 месяца назад
The big ones are from Plant Cell Technology. They are autoclavable and reusable. I typically stack 20 of them together, roll them up in a pressure cooker bag, and autoclave them all at once to sterilize them (planning to show that process in an upcoming vid)

Hi plant lover... Can't help but wonder, since you just came back from Japan, where's your kimono? Just trying to throw in a silly comment... Anyway, great video! Now, a question for the expert: What's currently considered the rarest plant in the world and could you clone it? 😉😜👘🪴

Ughh your stuff keeps popping up on my feed. I keep watching it. You see the problem right? I'm gonna have a full room of tissue culture equipment and be known as the crazy plant lady. The conversion has begun. This is your fault!!! I'm still trying so hard not to buy all the stuff lol.

I think it's a sign that you need to try tissue culture :)

I've only grown the magic varieties, so I have no experience with Lion's Mane, but I would be very suspicious of that culture. Mycelium is mostly always white. The only exception I know of is Pink Oyster mycelium. It's pink!

Annnnd. The big question. If you just add more hormone that might get killed by sterilization, how much more do you add.??? If pgr$ have an expiration date how much more can u put in to make up

4:09 I feel like hands are always going to be dirty and add contamination. Would it be better to do that with a clean container?

So I finally gave making medium a go, but I forgot to adjust the PH level. Should I scrap the whole batch or do we think it might still be worth giving a try? (followed your begonia tutorial - except the ph part ahhh).

If you culture just for aquarium plants and not sales, would a hotplate be worth it? Or is a stirrer without heat just as good?

@@plantsinjars so it's typically worth sacrificing a node? I have a gorgeous Monstera Albo that's pretty big so I might just give it a try.

Can't speak to Lion's Mane specifically but in my admittedly limited experience with culturing mycelium, "probably fine" usually means "should start over"

So if it were a different transgenic plant, with a different color like pink orange or orange with red dots then maybe I would pay 1.5000, but paying a high price for a natural variation I wouldn't do it.
