How did you make your electrical schematic with all your components? Is there a schematic where you can drop in your components. Like fans, batteries, solar etc?

I have some of the same components. I went with a 3000w pure sine wave inverter and charger from Renogy. I figured it would be easier to have my shore power connection all in one. Assuming I understand the equipment use properly. I’m watching and reading everything I can get my hands on to learn before I connect a single wire. I’m in Yukon Canada. It will be another month before we really get out of winter up here.

Thank U (I am fr. India and here not much costly Electric. and Solar Consultancy and Labour and fitting charges compare to there .... I lived Canada 4 yrs) ... In todays morning I thought how to solve Electric and Solar problems in my Van Planning and one hour later I found this yr video .... One thing I just mention here that in India no one experience about Van Life .... Just start here... Thank U

How does this set up compare to using a Goal Zero 1500x for the battery and most of the equipment used here? It seems like for $1600 the 1500x has better specs and save you about $1,000. Maybe I'm missing something.

Hey Big Logan! Quick question. What bar did you use for all your negatives? Is that just a bus bar? It looks different. And what size cables did you run through your breakers? Thanks!

Also did you go with recommended cable? Or figure your own calculations and go with that? I see most people on RU-vid using 2/0 from their house batteries and 4 gauge for connecting the dc to dc charger.. If course I have more research to do before I do anything!!

I'm a wire wrangler too. Love a clean and tidy build that's protected. Sweet job! One question though- what's the wire gauge on your feed from the alternator to the charge controller? Looks a little small for that long a distance, potentially a lot of voltage drop along the way. I see you have the generator, but a thin gauge from up front can make alternators work extra hard and die sooner. Unless you found a larger alternator?

Hi Logan, would you recommend using that Bosch water heater on a 1500W inverter? Thank you!
@biglogan3690
@biglogan3690 3 года назад
No and here is why, it pulls 1300-1400ish. A 1500W inverter may only supply 1000W continuous and 1500W peak. Spend the $$ on a reputable inverter. I’ve s once Switched from Renogy and use Xantrex and Edecoa.

@@biglogan3690 Ok! But if I understand it right, that would also require me to install batteries with bigger capacity?
@amyfu2047

Hey Logan! Love the videos! I just got a promaster to start converting. So a positive wire goes from the starter battery to the dc to dc charger right? You don’t have to run a negative? I’m not super smart with electrical. Just looking for clarification.
@biglogan3690
@biglogan3690 3 года назад
Thanks Amy. You're correct the unit is grounded to the battery / negative bus bar / chassis. Check out Will Prowse on RU-vid and his Website mobile-solarpower.com for diagrams.

@@biglogan3690 i love Will Prowse. He explains everything so simply! I was curious also because the inscreen vid showed you connecting the positive to the starter battery but I didn’t see you connect a negative to it.

Question- I have a renogy rover 40amp solar charge controller, where does the Alternator cable come into play on it? Do you need the specific one you have to have the alternator charge the batteries?

That’s correct, the Rover series only supports Solar input.

Great video bro.. amazing design... I'm actually using this diagram for my build... just a little confused...What do you mean by split the common ground bar on the arterra distribution panel? Like grind it in half and screw it back? Do I need to do additional wiring to it?
@biglogan3690
@biglogan3690 3 года назад
That’s correct, but just for the neutral bar, the ground can reside for both Shore and Inverter Systema
@christiangabasa1432
@christiangabasa1432 3 года назад
Hey bud...so I am finally on this part...lol...so With this set up(cutting the neutral bar) am I able to use shore power and inverter power for my ac unit? Or shore power is the only power for my ac unit? What happens if I leave the neutral bar without grinding it in half? thanks again for you help.

Sup Logan I like your videos your good what u do thsnks for sharing “what kind of copper wire do u recommend me using ? to the front battery I just bought 2 lithium batteries running 400 amps and 600 watts of solar panels most likely I would use the same gauge wiring to my charge controller & inverter I would appreciate if u can help me out
@biglogan3690
@biglogan3690 3 года назад
Hey Mario! I use Windy Nation 100% copper for eveeything. Based on this charge controller, 4 Gauge is sufficient for most runs including long run to alternator (starter battery) DO NOT buy Copper cladded aluminum wire or audio grade wire. Stick to 100% stranded copper for your DC power system electronics.

@renswic

Didn't see it in the vid but you do have a fuse or resettable circuit breaker near the main battery upfront correct? Also that ground wire running through sharp metal into the van with out protection is going to be the cause of a lot of problems when the insulation gets cut and it starts grounding out on the body.
@biglogan3690
@biglogan3690 4 года назад
Yes sir 200A resettable breaker is the master disconnect. If the chassis ground cable insulation wears out then that will make another body ground ;) jk it’s secured with grommet sealant on both ends :). Thanks for Watching!

Wiring question. I am finishing up the pre-wiring on my 2018 Ford Transit 250 - up to episode #12 on my RU-vid channel. My 12v lines that go to a Blue Seas fuse block: • One line for a group of 4 ceiling puck lights on a simple switch. • One line for a group of 6 ceiling puck lights on a dimmer switch. • One line for the MaxxAir 5100k fan. • And then on each side, one run for 2 mini panels with 2 USB ports and a 12v port. I enjoy your videos - down to earth and nice explanations without wasting time. My pet peeves with MANY van build series on RU-vid are the coffee making, wife/girlfriend in skimpy clothing, endless Home Depot trips, life coaching advice, endless pet videos and unfunny bloopers. I sound like a grumpy old man (almost 70), but I am not - really. : ) Thanks for any advice. I just want to get these walls closed in and get to the shiplap board install on the ceiling and walls! : )
@biglogan3690
@biglogan3690 3 года назад
Thanks for the feedback! Your on the right track! I was thinking about wearing skimpy clothes on the next episode but now that you say this, I may hold off! remember to always have a good path to ground on all your DC circuits and fuse protect at your distribution. Also try to incorporate a “master” DC shutoff prior to distribution panel. It helps when wiring new circuits!
@charlesmoman
@charlesmoman 3 года назад
@@biglogan3690 Good life choice about not going skimpy! Your comment made my wife laugh big time. I will not really need a master cut off for the DC circuits because they all will be running from either an Ecoflow Delta 1300 or Ecoflow R600 Pro and I will just turn them manually off and on anyway. I do not have a full on electrical set up like most people do. The Ecoflow units will make it easy and I can also just lift them out when it is too cold and bring them own the house We do not do much cold weather camping anyway. If we do, I will just have a very small heater running off a Delta 1300 to keep the other lithiums warm enough.
