Im from Kansas city. First heard of Screw when "swangin & bangin" came out. That screw part at the end of the video!!! I Loved it instantly. I was a middle school cat. Then around 98-99, i was RE-introduced to screwed music when Swisha house was poppin. I didn't get tue Watts style at first. Then one day, It clicked, and for a while i couldn't listen to Texas rap if it wasn't slowed up. What a journey. "5000" Watts. Beltway 8. Ron C. DJ Candlestick. Paul Wall. RIP Screw & Big Floyd. I was in 7th grade I am from Dallas a guy from Houston transferred to my school he gave me a tape and said check it out I saw him the next day and told him my cassette player was tripping cus it was playing it slow he laughed and said naw its supposed to be like that went home jammed it and I was hooked then I made cassettes for the rest of the homies

When we freestyled in the H it had to be off the top of the dome. I be watching the famous folk learning verses and calling em freestyles. If you go to HTown with that shhh, you will get no respect. It wasn't about competition either. We would just get together, smoke up. Sip some syrup and freestyle about our lives and our goals and dreams. If you wanna listen to someone go hard in HTown freestyle, listen to Lil Mario from old school Swisha House. Listen to Lil Flip go hard for a whole hour without stopping or repeating the same rhyme. Listen to SPM freestyle off the dome and making it sound like he wrote it cause his rhymes are so complicated and incredible.
