Heit The Great documents Rap & Hip Hop History with a focus on Southern rappers & producers, music production & the samples used in Rap Music, Hip-Hop, and other music genres through album reviews/reactions, commentary, analysis, and interviews. Heit has brought Southern hip hop history, covering DJ Screw and the Screwed Up Click, No Limit Records, Cash Money Records, Suave House, Three 6 Mafia and Memphis rap, Krunk/Crunk, Bounce Music, Atlanta Hip Hop, etc.
West Coast Rap is another area of focus, particularly Bay Area Hip Hop, including E-40, Too Short, the Luniz, 2Pac, DJ Quik, Warren G, Snoop Dogg, and more.
Heit The Great great also talks about classic samples, interpolations, replays, and covers from other music genres. This IS NOT a gossip or drama channel, we talk about the music, the rappers, the singers, the producers, and other icons and legends from the music we love from back in the gap (a lot from 1980's & 1990's, what we, now, we consider old school--the classics)!
I notice that also when you said "non-melodic" I call these modern day rap singers and rnb singers "cry singers" cuz they sound like they cryin to the beat. These newer generations learn on the internet before living the experiences they need to grow. Nobody "Sangin" in rap no more except Z-ro, Chali boy, King Kyle Lee, Ronnie Spencer., n more I cant think of. Also to me Bone was chanting more than singing. T-pain was jammin IDC what nobody say about auto tune. Akon had a cool voice but he had pop melodies he wasnt sangin. I stick to Ro & Htown cuz been & still makin jams. If it aint jammin I dont want to here it.
NO,MEM,LR,JACKSON all share the same culture migrating to STL, DET & CHI in the 60s we are tied close. We took from NY hiphop what was soulful and when the bounce came to the Skating Rinks in the 80s Afrika,Showboys it meshed so well with the funk sound SOSBAND, Gap Band, Yarbrough&Peoples,Strafe etc it had to be used in Dirty South Gangsta Rap(Trap). Im from Memphis do your research on The Crystal Palace thats where it all started!!!
I worked with Tobin Costen for a few years prior to, and up until, he developed his contacts with Master P, Uncle Charles, etc., (we did a radio show together at Gonzaga University), and I always found Tobin to be a trustworthy and honorable person. Tobin never ripped me off; in fact, Tobin made sure everyone else received their share of the pie, even if it meant his slice was smaller. Prior to Tobin's passing, he was a business instructor of Marketing, Business Management, and Finance at Holy Names University. Master P, however, has admitted to robbing and scamming people. I believe what Tobin says to be true and considering P's self-admitted scandalous actions, I am less likely to believe whatever P says. Rest In Peace Tobin.
Alabama State University (ASU) is our sworn rival in sports. We have one of the oldest rivalries in America 🇺🇸 and THE oldest… Yes, older than Alabama Vs. Auburn in the state. They will always hate on anything that we do, like holding the most wins in our Turkey Day Classic games TU vs. ASU 🤷🏾♂️🤣 but haters gonna hate NUMBERS don’t lie! Then TRY to use “BALL N PARLAY” against us as a diss!? It’s funny to me but we enjoy good trash talk in HBCU life. Thank you for this incredible video!
As a Tuskegee Man…and Marching Crimson Piper who crabbed in ‘98 we love BALLIN’ PARLAY at ‘Skegee under THE SHED (Home Crowd/Student Section) As a music nerd I knew Big Pokey created the song originally…major salute to our Texas students who brought it to us. What started 20+ years ago has become the Anthem for Tuskegee Football. 🏈 But as an ol skool Piper…GIT IT ALL by Mandrill will forever get me the most hyped.
If its done right its kool.. A few songs .. But i wish everybody go back 2 they mutual corner ... Gospel / R&B/ Hip Hop/ Rap stay n they LANE.. music could b saved
Fun fact: Destiny Child’s also sang back up vocals for Wyclef Jean’s Gone ‘Till November remix, which also featured R. Kelly and Canibus, this also made sense for Wyclef Jean to do another collaboration with Destiny’s Child on their No, No, No Part 2 song. I just thought I would bring it up as you left that part out of this video’s topic.
I think the reason why the track “The Ghetto Won’t Change” was removed from the reissued/re-released version of the “Ice Cream Man” album might have had something to do with copyright issues that Master P dealt with when it came to using the samples in that particular track
I cant figure out what he was trying to do......like was he rhyming ever other sentance cuz freeway use to do that but silk would say a word and wait till the next verse to rhyme it.....some times he wouldnt rhyme it till the next song His best work was when he would leave u on a cliff hanger and make u wait till the next album for the rhyme to finally come
