As product of a Dutch immigrant family, I was raised on this brilliant music. And with Stefan Grapelli. The Dutch band The Rosenbergs are still performing these greats today. Worth checking out. This is music at its best.
A beautiful piece of music, a thoughtful arrangement, a masterful performance, all adding up to a work of art. For the ninth time now I'll say how much I am looking forward to "I Remember Django." Thank you!
As someone who has watched the Django video again and again, this was great! I just downloaded your files. Wow, that solo will give me something to work on for a while.
@dennis - Thanks for your support! And do take your time - it took me over a month of practicing this song before I was confident enuff to hit the 'record' button.
I always enjoy and am impressed by your labor of love for Django. I remember reading a McCartney interview where he reflected that the vast majority of the songs he records he never plays again. He said he felt the joy of creation and then letting it be in the universe. I imagine that is a similar feeling for these Django creations for you.
Very cool. Enjoy all your stuff. This is a different cup of tea for sure. A departure from the Beatles I love so much. A true guitar hero you are Mr Mike.
I absolutely love your interpretation of Jango Reinhardt' music! Please make a playlist of all the songs your have recorded so we can listen to them back to back.
Hey Mike thanks nice job. Do you think you will go on a Django Festival It‘s in Samoreau near paris it‘s there because he lived there and It‘s really interesting. They‘re playing the whole day it‘s three days long and It‘s really nice maybe you come this year in june and we can play something together👍✌️ All the Best
@DrStrange - Thanks but no - I won't attend. I look at this work as 'painting a picture.' I've already painted it and have no desire to ever paint it again...
Would you consider posting a video introduction to your guitars? How long did you debate each purchase? Was money as the distinquishing factor? Did you trade in others to get these? When you choose one over the other for performances, why? "Tone" is likely the factor but how does playability affect your choice for Lead vs. 2nd guitar? And do you record one, then decide late The Other is your preference? I assume you play this catalog live locally - how are audiences and venues receiving this? I assume that Django is a common-enough entertainment choice for audiences... many may not know a lot of his work, but 'familiar name' should have some 'draw' ability for audiences.
AVHope - Not sure what your beef is but I'm not "double tracking his solos." I'm playing the melody (that was played by the violin) in octaves. Django does occasionally play octaves during his solos. And when he did, I play the octaves. The recording techniques were horrible in the late 30's. They positioned the musicians so that one microphone captured the entire ensemble.
