Thanks for your comment Donald and for what it's worth, I still haven't bought the M3. If you saw my recent video on the Panasonic GH6, I compared the £2k price of the new GH6 with a huge feature set of Micro Four Thirds goodness to the small camera on the £4.2k Mavic 3. I know the Mavic 3 flies but you could probably put the GH6 onto a larger drone frame for less than the cost of the M3. Great drone, just overpriced IMO 👍✌️

thanks for your thoughts on the Mavic 3. personally i own an Evo2 Pro and Inspire 2 X7 with CinamaDNG and alos a Inspire 1 X5R and dont instead on buying Mavic 3. Im waiting to see what Autel release with their M 4/3 drone. Good catch on the Color Bleed i think you are right the Chipset they are using might be a cheap one
@NickStubbs
@NickStubbs 2 года назад
Thanks for your feedback George. I did see a photo of the motherboard in the Mavic 3 and there was a paste over the chipset that is thought to be used to cool things when over-clocking like on a PC. Due to the shortage of chips right now, it's not unfeasible. Another point of interest is the 1tb internal hard drive on the Cine. The difference in weight between the standard and Cine drones is 4g. A typical solid state hard drive weighs a fair bit. However, a small, 1tb V90 MicroSD card weighs...4.54g 😉

Thanks for the review. Was thinking of trading in my air 2s On the Mavic 3 combo. But think I’ll wait a year or two. I like the larger drone and the 360d sensors, but as only a hobbyist, Just can’t justify the $2k AU upgrade. And still wait for the active track and master shots.

Hi Jason and thanks for the comment. I was out flying the Air 2s for my first daytime flight yesterday (dusk, bit of wind) and am really impressed. Rock steady with incredible 5k footage. I think people get too wrapped up in the hype, sneaky-but-clever "leaks" and advertising when a product is nearing launch. I nearly did. Companies are under such pressure, from investors, these days to release new products every year, I feel they are cutting corners and rushing to market. The DJI Action 2 is also a bit...problematic. A market that is also led by "Black Friday", Thanksgiving, Christmas and so on, and not based on producing a perfect, ready for production/delivery and fully tested product. I flew the Inspire 1 in all manner of situations for 5 years with no obstacle avoidance (and crappy 12-14 minute flight times). Are we becoming obsessed with that? I rarely use or need it, if ever. It's the same with car sensors. Learn to drive properly and don't rely on tech 😉👍 The Air 2s as far as I can see so far, is excellent. Get the best out of that and like you say, hold fire and see what else comes out next year. Admittedly I was looking forward to having a M43 sensor on a drone again because the image quality is superb, but I can wait (for the Evolve 2 perhaps, with interchangeable camera and lenses). Anyway, it's early, I'm rambling. Have a great day 👍

The colour bleeding is due to the compression (Long GOP) in h264/5. If you don't want that artifict you need to use an All-Intra codec like ProRes. This is especially noticeable in fast moving footage, loads of foliage or confetti.
@NickStubbs
@NickStubbs 2 года назад
Thanks for that. Not great for those buying the Combo maybe? My most used setting in the GH5 and S1H is their superb 10-bit, 400mbps All-I codec. Shame DJI didn't put something like this in the Mavic 3.
@vegasti
@vegasti 2 года назад
@@NickStubbs Depends on your needs I guess. All-Intra is pretty new to the prosumer market. We did survive without it before. 😊 If you plan on using the drone primarily for high paced action then the Cine-version might be a better option. If you didn't notice or weren't bothered with these kind of artifacts on previous dji drones then I don't think its a problem. I don't think you will ever get a client asking about color bleed, if you do they will probably want an Arri in the air anyway 😅 I personally bought the Cine, but that is mainly because of the controller and the prores option is just luxury. 💸

Indeed I do Teach. I actually think the fluctuating flight times with the Mavic 3 might be something to do with the pro res. For example, one reviewer who flew whilst continuously filming in pro res only got 19 minutes. Another who was just shooting stills got around 40 minutes. I did actually ask the question to Mavic 3 owners on the community section of this channel but realised I've never used it before and no-one ever sees it 😅 Does filming 5.1k, 60fps in Pro Res use a lot of power? I'm not sure. Flight times is actually part of my problem with drone companies these days. I think we need more transparency and honesty.

I appreciate your thoughts on this, and I wanted to chime in with some of my findings. I was totally convinced I would buy the Cine version, but now I’m not sure I’ll be switching from the Mavic 2 Pro at all (I’ve been shooting with that professionally for commercial clients for over three years). First of all, I downloaded a bunch of M3 testfiles in both 10 bit DLog H.264 and H.265, plus ProRes. Then I’ve spent a few days studying and testing those files in DaVinci Resolve Studio 17, and to be honest, I can’t see any quality difference between them when pushing around colors and exposure quite heavily. I’ve kept my eye on both the scopes and the image zoomed into 100%, but there’s no visible difference at all between H.264, H.265 and ProRes. And that surprised me a lot! And then there’s the fact that you can’t use an external screen like an iPad Mini 6 (like I used with my M2P) on the Cine version. Bummer. I think both the Fly app and the M3 controller is a major step down from the GO 4 app and the old M2P controller. With the M2P and an iPad, I felt like I had all the buttons, wheels and controls I needed at my hands, now you have to do several of those things via the touchscreen. And one more tiny little detail… I shoot with graduated ND filters on the M2P 90% of the time. After talking to a couple of the filter manufacturers, they says that making a graduated ND for a twin camera gimbal is almost impossible. Bummer…
@NickStubbs
@NickStubbs 2 года назад
Wow. Thanks for the feedback 👍. I didn't know that about using external monitors on the Cine or the grad filters. That's not ideal by a long shot 😕
2 года назад
@@NickStubbs According to the official DJI store in Oslo, you can't connect a tablet like the iPad or similar to have on-screen touch controls. But you can probably (they aren't 100% sure since they haven't tested it) connect an external monitor to the micro HDMI port, and get a live feed without the HUD.
2 года назад
@@NickStubbs And another thing. On the Mavic 2 Pro the controllable pan of the gimbal is minus 75º to plus 75º, but on the Mavic 3 it’s only minus 5º to plus 5º. When filming, I often pan the gimbal quite far out to the side while flying straight forward in a pre-tested flight path, and then I can fly parallel to the object and get a very nice “follow look”. But if you can’t control the pan more than +/- 5 degrees on the Mavic 3, you basically have to fly sideways instead, making such a simple thing overly complicated. Sigh…

@@NickStubbs I'll definetely keep my eye on the XDynamics Evolve 2 you mentioned in the video, so thanks for the tip. I've been very happy with the M2P, but the Evolve 2 seems like (hopefully) a very good product, so maybe that's the natural step up for me. I was also psyched when Sony released the news about the AirPeak, but I can't live with 12 minutes flight time. Some of the promo films I make for industrial clients (where they're building wind turbines for instance), they carry out long operating procedures where I need to be up in the air at least 20 minutes, preferable more, to capture the stuff I need. I can't waste time flying back changing batteries.

I'm somewhat surprised that you come on RU-vid to do a video on the Mavic 3 without actually trying one out personally. It's like trying to give your opinion on any product without actually testing it yourself. I have watched a lot of videos on RU-vid regarding the new Mavic 3 and everyone who has tested it says they are incredible. Yes, the only thing they had to say against it, was the missing software, that would have a firmware update in January. I find it incomprehensible that you can have a valid reason to make your feelings known to people when you have not tested the drone yourself. It's like asking someone from Top Gear not to test drive a car and tell the audience what it's like to drive. Unbelievable really.
@NickStubbs
@NickStubbs 2 года назад
In the same way you are entitled to freely give your opinion on my video without knowing me, I am entitled to air my views on a product based on my opinions without actually testing it myself. With that said, I do intend to hire one and either back up my opinion or retract it and buy the drone myself. Until one becomes available to hire, I'm not about to fork out $5000 on something I'm not sure about. This video is no different to the many, many speculative videos created based on "rumours" prior to launch (I assume you also aired your thoughts on those). In fact, this video and my opinion is more justified in that it is based on feedback from people that HAVE flown and tested the drone. I am just giving my initial impressions based on those reviews. I have been flying drones professionally for 6+ years and yes, I am p*ssed off that I waited for nearly a year for something that I (personally) feel is sub-standard for the price point.
@NickStubbs

...and the Top Gear analogy doesn't make sense. I said in the video that it's a given the drone will fly well as all DJI drones are superb in that regard. I also said the 5k footage that I've seen is amazing. ...and Top Gear have on many occasions given their thoughts on cars before they have driven them. Quite unbelievable really. It's the many other things such as having to hook up the drone to a computer to offload Pro Res footage whilst burning battery power. It's the shoddy second camera. Yes, it's the 2 month wait for firmware updates. I don't want to get into an argument so I'll just say thank you for your feedback, it's your prerogative and have a nice day.

I hear what you're saying and yes, it's more of a "first impression" and "why I didn't buy it" video over an actual review. Plus I listened to others that have used the drone for a while and simply shared what they had said or noticed. Today I downloaded some "straight out of camera" Pro Res, ungraded, log footage and was blown away. Stunning. The issue I mentioned was with h.264 I believe along with the other things not to do with image quality. I think the Pro Res and drone overall is superb and I had planned on buying it right away. I didn't get up in time (2.30am uk) to buy it on release so had time to check out reviews when I got up in the morning. All that did was put the brakes on my purchase until a) the firmware updates are released and b) we see more reviews, footage and hopefully some fixes for these issues. Watched another review today where the guy only got 19 minutes flight 3 time in pretty good conditions. He recorded the flight from take off to landing. ✌️

@@NickStubbs I have several cinema cameras and regularly shoot in raw and prores, post possessing in DaVinci Studio and Premier Pro. I do multi-camera shoots that results in a Tb of data. Even given that, the cinema version makes sense if you intend to get the new controller and the second set of ND filters. I couldn't gush over something I knew had flaws just because it was sent for free. I gave them a bit of kudos on my post about the Action 2 camera recently which I also think has too many issues for me to drop £450 on it. www.all-things-photography.com/blog/dji-action-2-camera/

No matter what DJI are the Drone leaders their drones are the best . Its like Coca Cola .There are lots of other alternatives but No substitute for Quality and substitute .

Couldn't agree more Johnny. I love DJI and was in fact looking at the Inspire 2/X7 set up yesterday. It's like most companies though, they may produce a bit of "runt" now and again. Something that is good but not up to their usual standard (IMO) and that's ok because we all have the choice to buy/not buy (and the world keeps turning) 👍✌️

Just to make everyone aware that DJI Care Coupons and DJI Accessories Coupon can't be used on the Mavic 3 or it's accessories. Very stingy by DJI ,and needless to say I won't be purchasing. Such a disappointment.

That's bad news, thanks for sharing. Not sure what's going on with DJI right now. Maybe they're getting a lot of pressure from their investors?
