am in the uk 10mph winds are the lowest we get 😢 i have a £150 drone not great am going to get a dji mini 4 or 4 pro just to end the hassle

I think that might because of the frame. I'm no engineer. But I air frame (because of the landing gears). Might be the problem.

I am an engineer and you are correct. Mavic has way less projected surface area compared to the Phantom.

Bouncing around is caused by gusts of air moving over the lifting surfaces (props in this case) making them more efficient and causing the drone to rise, then when the gust goes the drone falls aka turbulence. I think the mavic seems to cope better because it has smaller props which can change speed quickly to adjust for the gusting. That coupled with a more aerodynamic frame and awesome flight computer make for an awesome little drone which should really just blow away in these conditions. Great vid

It is the Mavic bouncing and shaking. Just check the very beginning of the video (around 2:00). It is half the weight so there is no surprise there. Dont look the drones but the shots taken by them. Strong shakes on Mavic.

Hey are you saying it will work like that even with vps on, and no down swipe required? Handy if so. You are saying downstick command, the vps sees hand and goes back up just a little, and then continued downstick brings it in anyway second down

It went about 10ft (just out of frame) higher, not 50ft. You can see how looking at the video stream it doesn't go much further once it leaves the frame. Still, though that's a rarity in my experience with the P4.

compare to phantom 4 pro then the camera quality is much better but with phantom 4, since they use almost the same sensor, there won't be a huge difference

Yeah, you're good on speed (I got mine up to 48MPH in sport mode). However, I'd test the range piece in a car first. I remember that on the DJI Phantom 4 there's a quirk that it measures the RTH distance from the point of take-off, not point of controller. So if you set max distance at 1,000m (for example), an then you floated 1,001m - it'll force back to landing spot, even if your current distance is a mere 5m away. I haven't re-tested to see if that code still exists on Mavic (or has changed since I tried this summer).

make sure you got enough battery spare too when you accelerate to catch up with the boat

Not sure why you say I love the P4, I'd choose the Mavic any day.

I'm being argumentative....but, you did seem a little bias towards the P4...I am about to purchase my first drone, the Mavik seems like the way to go at this point....thanks for doing this test.

The Phantom has downwards optical sensors as well.

the idea of the Mavic is portability, so yes, it is a grab and go drone.

The Mavic is easy to catch if you know what you're doing. No need to turn sensors off.

Even after adjustment the video wouldn't match that of the P4. I mean anyone can see how much more detail the P4 captures in the Raw footage. The sky on the Mavic footage is just blank white. Not to mention all the haze when shootng against the sun. Still the portability of the Mavic makes it the best choice between the two.

ChipZilla69 try to fly into the wind as you begin filming, that way you are not fighting it on the return. On windy days plan your shots. There’s nothing wrong with the drone I would guess.
