Been using the DJI Mic2 for a while now and I gotta say, I'm really loving the audio quality. It's super clear and sounds totally pro. And the user-friendly design is a game-changer. It's insanely easy to use.

The only thing I've found that drives me nuts so far is that the built in recorder splits the files every 240mb or so. It's so annoying.

When you use the USB-C adapter to plug receiver in your iPhone or Android smartphones, does the camera automatically recognizes the receiver and use the wireless range as mic or you actually have to pair receiver to smartphone as a bluetooth mic and use that instead? The bottom line I am asking is, the whole idea for me to buy is use with my smartphone without bluetooth as bluetooth creates lag. So with its dedicated signal with the transmitter, there is no lag. How are you using it if I may ask?

Great review. I use secured lav on my Tentacles Track E’s but I’ve been using the Cable Clamp under the DJI Mic 2 to secure my lav I haven’t had any concerns of a lav coming loose. The Rode out of box definitely sounds more beefy on the low end creating a pleasing sound. But nothing a little Post Production can’t match if that’s your thing. For me it’s the ease and usefulness of the DJI Mic 2, definitely thoughtfully made, sound can be tweaking into a preset but features can’t be always easily added.

I own the DJI Mic 2 but do think Rode sounds better. Keep in mind the DJI does allow you to loop the lav wire for a more secure connection…but rode is still better with screwing it down. I'm not sure if my unit if faulty, but it seems that the DJI is pretty much a very quiet mic, I had to increase the the volume significantly, do you face that issue with the unit? Also I don't really like the sound of the DJI mic 2, it sounded so thin and also too bright for my liking. As these mic are typically used for spoken words application, a darker mic would be more ideal. The thing about the Rode that it is not as sleek and look outdated and big. And the case seems like an after thought. Though I must say, the Lark M2 seems really interesting, however I do wish they have better sound quality to them, but I still feel it sounded better than the DJI Mic 2.

There are so many things to mention, I didn’t cover everything. The video would have been too long. Happy to address your questions though for sure. 1. Timecode feature on the rode is great to many but not something I care about at all personally. 2. The feature you’re talking about with the DJI is the setting to remove background noise. I had that off. It sounds much worse if it’s on since it’s removing whatever it thinks is noise. I do that in post when I need it and would never have it on.

@@scottmckenna to my ear the mid-range sound nearly the same to me on both (I've been testing both). Activating the low cut on the DJI mic 2 (which was on by default on my unit) definitely makes all of the mid-range sound more aggressive and thin. Yes, Rode sounds much better. But DJI has some features that are attractive. I used the DJI version 1, I like it. Thank you for the video Scott, very well done, like always!!!

@@scottmckenna But when using lav the in build sound quality doesn't really matter, right? Then they would sound more similar maybe 🤔

Hello thanks for your review. Could you help me? I heard that DJI mic has drift while recording internally. But I need to record using the camera for about 2 hours on lectures. From what I heard if I recorded directly to the camera there is no drift only when recorded internally on the transmitter. Do you know something about that?
