DK's Daily Shot of Steelers: Herbig held back? 

I noticed Herbig's splash affect in the few snaps he played last season. I expect a come up for him this year for sure with you guys seeing is upgraded performance in the mini camps this time around. Let's Go Steelers!! 🖤💛🖤💛

Herbig as #3 means he may sub for both Watt & Highsmith so that would effectively ‘double’ his plays. This would also explain why they haven’t resigned Golden which continues to surprise me.

Having some depth at a position is a nice position to be in.

It would be great sometime to hear your take on the OTHER Herbig in this off-season. I remember the positive vibes when Nate was signed but - since then - he has been invisible.

I remember watching a game last year and noticing he came into the game . I told the person I was watching the game with to “watch this, Herbigs out there.” Ball was snapped and Herbig got the sack. The kids a monster.

Steeler fans seemed to never have considered that we think herbig is a star because of the strategic spot play….maybe if he had played more we may have seen more of what kept him off the field …..just something to consider that the Steelers were really good at some things

Nick is ready to make some splash moves! STEELERS are always patient and he will come alive! I hope the defense can stay healthy and cause major problems for the opps! I can’t wait for the season.

DK, I agree with you 100% that Herbig needs more snaps!!! I think that’s gonna happen this season…. He’s gonna be the #3 edge rusher & I think 🤔 he’ll get approximately the total & potentially more than he & Markus got together last year! I would love to sign Golden to the vet minimum as an emergency player! We have quite the tandem already & having him incase of an injury…. well l would hope that he never saw the field though I believe he’s an upgrade to some teams starters🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

Highsmith led edge rushers in forced fumbles last year. So really your trading splash for splash

Marcus Golden was a good add last year and I can hardly believe he is not on the team this year. He wasnt great but he was ok as a backup to give starters a break. Yes I think Herbig will do a great job as the #3. I just worry about depth and for sure getting rest for our starters so they are FRESH for our playoff run.

I agree. Get him in there. They laugh but inside is a way to get the kid on the field. Make him number one in the rotation spot, at the very least.

He will be the third OLB this season, he will get plenty of play time, probably 40-60% of snaps.

nick should get more snaps but i think they need another guy also

It's not the sample size that is small, it's that Herbig is on the small size. He's not big enough to hold up for "starter" number of snaps. Him being the third guy coming in is perfect for him.

Just my thoughts but, Nick Herbig has been improving and learning from T.J. Watt. Nick has been awesome and I believe he will continue to grow and improve. The odds of him doing what T.J. Watt wants him to do, are pretty good. I know, but, T.J. needs 25 sacks !!!! Size and repeated play, and other teams confrontation matters. Arthur Smiths game play and plan is yet to be seen. I would not be hard to imagine it will be improved. Thank you DK. Great show.

I want to see less of TJ and Highsmith this year. Hoping the offense all but eliminates 3 and outs combined with clock killing, dagger in the heart scoring drives. Best defense is ball possession offense.

All the talk about Herbig's size is ridiculous. Highsmith is listed at 2 lbs heavier and 2" taller. This tells us Herbig is actually built slightly thicker than Highsmith. Herbig could/should play more, he's a 'change up' having all that speed and bend.

None issue. Regardless, he has to wait. His opportunity will come.

Hopefully A. Smith (along w/Tomlin) has one goal this year,,, and that is to get better every week,, count is 30. Oh and a bunch of "W" is a must. 👍

Herbigs good love the kid but starting is way different than coming in on occasion, he will b a baller but let him develop, there's no tape on him yet

Don't think I would personally, but should we trade Herbig... I mean,if we're wasting his talent.... but I like the idea of having a third rusher that has no letdown when he comes in... trade?

Your show reminds me why i hate ESPN. All they wanna talk about is QB. And I'm like, what about Nick Herbig and Keeanu Benton?

Back when the steelers were a well run organization. They would trade highsmith at the end of the year. Invest that 14 million into the offense. This is not a well run organization anymore. So nick will stay the backup.

I've had this thought in my head for the last couple of weeks...and I'm not sure they I even believe it but ....what about trading highsmith as part of a deal for an "insert top wide receiver here" ....then you move up herbig sign another guy for depth like Markus Golden and we're still firing on all cylinders.. .DK what do you think? Is there even a shred of possibility that they could go that route?

Well Tomlin didn’t recognize that the best QB on the team last year was Mason Rudolph. Sadly, No One called him out on it! But he gave away the division and a better standing in the playoffs by playing Mitch Trubitsky when it was clear to Stevie Wonder that Mitch was awful!!! It was only when Mitch lost games to two pathetic opponents in the Cardinals and the Patriots where Tomlin had no choice but to play Rudolph. It is abundantly clear Rudolph was always in Tomlin’s dog house. Tomlin was also responsible for keeping Matt Canada for year three when it was clear to everyone including Ray Charles that Canada needed to go after year two. Tomlin’s never been responsible for anything other than never having a losing season. So now that this Roster has been vastly improved if Tomlin wets the bed in the playoffs what will the excuse be? In the end, it really doesn’t matter because Tomlin will be here for the next 4 years regardless of what happens on the field.

I tell fans he will surpass highsmith. Way more clutch, more splash plays as well

If they didn’t see or care about Rudolph’s abilities (blind eye syndrome) is it the same with herbig ?

He's under Tomlin. OF COURSE HE'S HELD Back. We've had superbowl caliber teams for at least 10 of the last 15 years. Coaching holds everyone back.

He should be a starter in Highsmith's place.

Just another example of the team not using players the right way. I hope herbig gets an opportunity somewhere else if we aren’t going to use him the right way.

Highsmith is gone next season especially if we trade for a good WR $$$. We’ll need to spend more on QB. Something’s got to give and we can get pick(s) for him. This in no way is saying I want him gone. Just where the money obviously could come from.

Highsmith took a step back last year and let’s face it, If Herbig played all 17 games he would of had more than 7 sacks that Alex had.

Ya DK nic is special. I've been a redskins fan for 42 years I would love for my redskins trading for her big I'll give up a second round right now. Nic is going to get his shot I do believe because of the injuries.
