These two scopes are both 5x prismatic designs, but they could not be more different form each other. The video explains why.

Vortex goofed when they went with a T2 pattern mount vs an ACOG mount for the Spitfire. Also, after my experience with their 3x, I'm really favoring the idea of a large prism over a micro.

@@ChristopherGoydich-cb6bd I haven't actually seen testing on it but my suspicion is that the parallax or whatever inherent to red dots makes their use at longer range.... problematic. My thinking as of late is prism for PID / recon / longer shots and red dot for night and anything close.

Hay DLO, thanks for your review. I have a Vortex 5x Prism on the way. I am not 100% sure what it's end use will be, probably a SHTF setup, but for now I am going to shoot some GSSM matches with it. The 5x will take me out of the Modern Military category so this is for fun. If I like it (red dots star burst bad for me) I will buy a 3x. I shoot irons in that match now.

I have the Spitfire HD Gen 2 with a Viper mounted up top, it’s a great setup, and light. My only complaint is the caps that come with it, I removed them right away. Can’t beat Vortex’s guarantee on their products, I’m a fan of Prisms because of my astigmatism. My red dot magnifiers I’ve had all ‘starburst’ badly.
@connormckay9429
@connormckay9429 Год назад
The top mount red dot is also supposedly good for running passive aiming with nods, that combined with the weight savings has me heavily considering the Vortex
@lokes77
@lokes77 Год назад
I have the Vortex set up with a dot on top like you are describing. It works well passive aiming with nods. Go ahead and give it a shot.

The Vortex makes sense for a lightweight-compact "Old Eye-Old Guy" enhancer type Red Dot. But it would nice to have a 30-32mm tube.

It’s been hard for me to decide between red dot + 5x Prism or 1-6 LPVO. My astigmatism blooms red dots pretty terrible, but as long as I go 3 or 2 MOA dots it’s manageable

Wind noise is really bad around 22 minute park, wish you would run the audio thru a compressor to make your mumbling words louder and the wind softer. The comparison is helpful, thanks.
@DarkLordOfOptics

audio editing is not exactly my strength. How do you do that in DaVinci Resolve? I ran it through their speech enhancement algorithm, but it did not do much for gusty wind.

@@DarkLordOfOptics I suspect the answer is a mic with one of those big fuzzy "dead cat" attachments.

Would love to see your review of the Lucid P8. I also thought that Swamp Fox was going to put their 5x Prism scope on a diet with a larger eye relief. Also forgot to mention that the new SLx from Primary Arms looks like they put a lot of thought into their Prism Scope. My primary interest in a Prism scope is that I would like to get an exceptional optical quality at a much lower price and less weight than a LPVO.
@DarkLordOfOptics
@DarkLordOfOptics Год назад
There is nothing wrong with its eyerelief, to be honest.
@DarkLordOfOptics

Now that I think about it, I do not think I have any contacts at Lucid. I'll see if I can get a hold of anyone there. If not, I'll chat with them during SHOT next year. It has been years since I talked to anyone at Lucid.

When a top mounted dot, like on the Spitfire is rotated towards the left eye of a right handed shooter, does he/she run into a problem of aiming by a non-dominant eye and the resultant POI shift?
@DarkLordOfOptics
@DarkLordOfOptics Год назад
It shouldn't, but that is something I plan to experiment with. I have a prism sight coming that can support both piggy backed and offset red dots, so I will move the red dot back and forth and see what happens.
@bayouromanian
@bayouromanian Год назад
I like the spitfire using the low mount with hs407k on top. The low mount is less than ideal but usable for the spitfire and the red dot is only slightly higher than optimal.

@asianky1e30 the screws fit directly. The detents have to be removed though, they're too wide.

Wait, really? So just file down the detent posts and the K series fits in the same hole pattern?? Got to say, I didn’t know that. I appreciate it! The K series isn’t that much smaller glass real estate compared to the C series.

With the recent release of the PA 5x, and the videos that have came out so far with views through the optic, I'm unsure if I want a micro 5x. I didn't like getting behind the Vortex Spitfire, and the glass on the PA doesn't look great compared to the Spitfire to begin with. The Saber does look like it'll fit the bill, just would need to find an alternate red dot to fit onto the side as I really haven't heard the best thing about their dots.
