Pretty sure an artifact or enchantment cast from exile enters the battlefield as the card and not a token copy so when it dies it still goes to the graveyard

Yep, exactly that. She can get you a second cast of your cards, but that's it (unless you have some exile shenanigans going on, but there's not really much that does that, for a very good reason)

So Open the Way actually is perfect for a very certain deck I'm planning, and that's a Goblin Charbelcher "one land" list that uses World Tree and the 30 MDFCs from ZNR as its landbase so Charbelcher will flip the whole deck on activation. Casting Open the Way X=1 grabs World Tree guaranteed while not affecting the overall Charbelcher damage 😁

@@origaminosferatu3357 If you put 4 mana into both spells, Open the Way will be guaranteed to hit 2 lands while Animist's Awakening can hit anything from 0 to 3. So variance makes Awakening a risky spell to begin with, and in late-game (when you've already pulled a lot of land out of the deck) its usefulness only goes down. It's reliant on mass mana generation.

One thing about "Open the way" is that it has the same rate as an explosive vegetation when cast for 4 mana, but avoids shuffling your library. If there were more cards like this I would definitely play them over rampant growth, harrow, or explosive vegetation, just for the fact that it takes much less time resolving them thanks to not having to shuffle my commander deck properly.

While that's true, we also just got Invasion of Zendikar which is also an Explosive Vegetation that gives you a third land once you defeat the battle. Though it does do the shuffle thing you say you want to avoid.

Open the Way is a decent card. It's much better than just being "get 4 lands for 4GG" as presented in the video, and your comment partially illustrates why. I'm not saying the card is broken or even amazing, but its flexibility is its greatest strength, and I would argue that it's probably good enough to run in most mid-power 1-3 color decks that play any other kind of sorcery-based land ramp. Huge bonus points if your deck does a lot of scrying, as you point out it avoids shuffling!

@@Kadraxan All the cards you reveal except for the lands are sent to the bottom of the library, so it doesn't sinergize with Scry as much as you're saying. Its only value is to be able to pick up non-basic lands in addition to basic ones, and to proc multi-landfall, and while that means that it is not useless at all, there are cards that offer similar yet better value that are going to kick it out from the 99 most of the time.

The thing i think youre not realizeing about that x G G ramp spell is that in 1v1 its an explosive vegetation and in 4 player commander its better than explosive vegitation. Its especially good if you dont run basicis in your deck (for whatever reason)

@@3N3MYKN1GHT 6 mana trigger all my landfall effects 4 times. I don't care about the lands, I care about them falling. That's 4 mana from the serpent, all 3 triggers of 4 color Omnath, 4 +1/+1 counters on my Avenger of Zendikar plants, and more. Landfall just wants lands to fall. Edit: draw 4 from Tatyova or Aesi. The reason you can't pay more is actually because of landfall. If landfall could pay 10 (fairly easy to do) to get 8 lands and trigger their landfall effects 8 times, the card would be bonkers. It is a welcomed ballance.

It's meta dependent of course... but one not mentioned I really like is Metropolis Reformer. Cheap flier with vigilance is nice, but gaining life whenever it's dealt damage makes it a nice blocker and has the added niceness of gaining you 13 life whenever the inevitable Blasphemous Act goes off.

I personally like the design of Open the Way. I like that you can flexibly ramp for 1 to 4 lands from 3 to 6 mana depending on where you are in the game, which I think is very desirable in big mana or landfall decks. I also like that it is not overpowered: It does have to compete with all the other green ramp sorceries, but right now, that means there are valid decisions and choices to be made about which ramp spells are best for each individual green deck. If they ever push the envelope too hard in terms of power with a card in this design space, it will just become the boring staple every green deck will have to run forever.

Open the way is great for very casual commander, easily replaces circuitous route in some of my decks (if it’s not more expensive than circuitous route).

I think that Coppercoat Vanguard will be relevant in pioneer for mono-white humans, and the new Sigarda for angels and/or humans. The new Samut also seems like a pretty good aggro card. And there's a bunch of pioneer/standard viable sideboard cards (Metropolis Reformer, Spark Rupture, Tranquil Frillback, etc...). I do agree that this set is awful, but there's still some good stuff in it for 60-card formats.

While it is true that this isn't really a worthwile set, there are a couple of cards I'm gonna pick up, since they work well for some of my decks. The new Nissa is basically a Lotus Cobra that gets you an elemental/elf on the second trigger, that'S pretty good for Aesi. And the new Ob Nixilis might fit pretty well into my Prosper Deck since I play a decent number of cards that will ping when a treasure etbs or is saced.

Had Open the Way allowed for tutoring, I could've seen it in Legacy lands. 2GG, grab Dark Depths + Stage. A bit slow, but instantly building your combo for 4 mana and 1 card can be rather efficient.

Open the Way seems to be 100% designed as a landfall card, where all you need is extra triggers and it doesn't much matter what lands you hit. Pretty narrow, but with that in mind it does scale well in multiplayer.

i like having commander sets also be standard legal. Some cards are really fun and its nice to brew with them in standard and pioneer. I played a little bit around nahiri and she kinda is like winota. Just playing some equipment with tokens to flip in more equipments with tokens to trigger her even more. As commander cool too.

I think the new ob is auto include in any red/black deck that plays aristocrats. He is probably gonna get played from the command zone a lot too, but the combo with all will be one might hold him back in a lot of metas because everyone will assume that is your wincon and kill him on sight.

Glad you mentioned it. Urborg Scavengers is the only card speaking to me in this set. I have plans for that card in Modern. . Karn looked interesting until I realised it's just a worse more expensive Urza, Lord High Artificer. Eitherway I'm buying singles, how can I throw money at a company that puts it towards mercenaries breaking into peoples houses and stealing someone-else's property. And that's not factoring that these mercs harassed elderly neighbours of the buyer. Hasbro just can't help themselves.

Im very much curious about how the combat and coping works with the drifter if I used it in my runo stromkirk deck as that is copying creatures so causes a lot of shenanigans.
