"Is FMLA leave paid or unpaid?"
The basics of qualifying for FMLA leave:
You are only entitled to FMLA if you worked for a company for at least 12 months, and a minimum of 1250 hours, working at a company and location which has at least 50 or more employees within 75 miles.
Oh yeah, you also need to have a qualifying medical condition.
That being said, FMLA leave is unpaid leave. Meaning, no, you don't get paid.
FMLA protects your job for up to twelve weeks, but your employer does not have to pay you during that period.
However, short term disability or accrued PTO can be used to provide a revenue stream to help protect your revenue stream during the time off work.
So generally - FMLA protects your job but there won't be money coming in.
Knowing the law and what you are entitled is the KEY to not being surprised or manipulated by your employer.

I could use some advice. My 1yr will be 4/18 at my job. I was allowed to work from home due to health conditions. This health condition has led to several more health conditions & was put on some medications that appears to have worsened my condition. My PCP has been recommending taking time off. I’ve refused. I love my job & fearful of losing it. It’s beyond difficult trying to work & deal with this condition. Can I get fired if I inform my HR before my year or even after?

Can your employer FORCE you to utilize your vacation/sick time when you do take FMLA leave. I have intermittent fmla for care of a childs medical condition and my employer makes us use this this time when we take FML.
