Just a question, other than going through SFAS and the whole Q Coarse for the 19th and 20th SF groups once you have completed the Q course and are SF qualified in the National Guard, is the training similar to the regular National Guard or is it much more?

I am currently a Senior in high school and a Volunteer firefighter for 4 month's I've also been bodybuilding for almost 9 month's is Basic Training really that hard as its said to be if your already mentally determined and Physically buff.

@@Bubbly_pen I'm planning to go into PA Guard SF. and from what i have been informed of No training is not easier though experience will be less being a Guard and not Active Duty.

I joined at 35 and didn't workout before basic. the training was MORE than enough to get me where they wanted me to be physically, especially given my advanced arthritic age. there were plenty of younger kids at basic in far worse shape than I was

I agree with the cardio and rucking advice. Soldiers including drill sergeants told me and other trainees how today's generation has less bone density than previous generations. The army even developed a dedicated Calcium bar for trainees to consume during training. I've seen skeletal injuries stopping many recruits from graduating on time, including one that had to go home temporarily because her injury was simply too severe. If you can though, stealing some of these bars from the MRE room is kinda worth.

Workout, but be safe and don’t get hurt. If you get hurt you might not be able to ship to BCT.

I’m sure it all varies on the bct site and battery you’re in, but we ran for distance once other than the 3 acft that we took, the rest were 30-60s, it’s kinda sad actually given that I ran 2 miles every day for the 2 years prior to shipping. But I would still say cardio and prepping for the rucks is the best possible thing to do, build that endurance. remember to pack the heavy weight higher in the ruck even if it’s not the way your ds tells you to pack it. it seriously makes a difference. train for the sdc, it’s a killer on the legs more than you’d think, basically just practice as much of the acft as possible, and practice holding the front leaning rest too lol. Oh and unless absolutely necessary do not go to sick call, cause they will find something. Had a buddy go in for a cough and came out in a boot for the rest of the cycle cause they found stress fractures, like the drills like to say, unless it’s life , limb, or eyesight, do not go!

Im trying to do 60 push ups 60 situps 1.5 mile run under 15 minutes and planks so when i join ill be prepared
