True. I think holistic healthcare is amazing for certain chronic health conditions, or if you're someone who typically responds poorly to drugs (I have a liver disorder that makes taking most meds dangerous). But if you need to remove a tumor or you have a heart attack, you'd better see a regular MD. Everything has it's time and place.

I love how all the “holistic healers” think they know the nuances of becoming & being a medical doctor... It takes 8-15 years to become a board-certified Physician AFTER college. These guys study RELENTLESSLY for YEARS, literally, all to help serve the public. I encourage all “natural healers” to enroll in the classes that are prerequisites in order to get into medical school.. 1 year of inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, physics, biochemistry; all with labs. Try learning the basic building blocks of medicine and in a year, I’d love to hear their take on all these questions being asked again.

Yeah the lady who said she has never had a positive experience with a doctor is just being silly. I mean every doctor she went to was racist? Every one? Sometimes people carry their expectations with them and it obscures their judgment I think. Modern medicine has benefited humanity in so many revolutionary ways. But we can’t dismiss the other side either because healers, shamans, witches, etc actually have a much longer history. They were the first doctors. A lot of that knowledge has been lost unfortunately. That doesn’t mean everyone who claims to be a healer or every remedy is going to work. I would say some of it is just wishful thinking but sometimes on a rare occasion, it is miraculous and goes beyond what traditional medicine is capable of.

@@welshieranger4697 What I meant is that no legitimate alternative medicine practitioner would prescribe freaking herbs for a car accident. They'd tell you to go to the hospital like anyone else because they aren't idiots. My point is that there are different ways to treat different things. A legit holistic practitioner is not going to tell you that their treatments can solve everything and never to use western medicine. None of the people in this video said that and none of the doctors I have ever been to say that. You seem to have a caricature of what you think a holistic practitioner does in your mind and I am saying that it's wrong.

Might be the best thing. I was in an accident, was force to go to the hospital in an ambulance and kept against my will and charged over 10 thousand dollars when the only treatment I received was a drop of liquid bandaid. Would have preferred a nice cup of tea.

I very much believe in using herbs because they have helped me with several health issues. But I still go to medical doctors for issues as well and inform them what I am doing. When treatment and further tests are suggested by my medical doctor regarding anything, I do my research and I make the best decision for myself. Most of the time I do turn down medications, depending on what it is. Most meds I have taken in the pass have given me issues due to side effects. So if I can take an herb to do the same job without the side effects, then this is great. Not all herbalists/holistic healers think the same. Yes, I want to go to the emergency room if I am in a car accident. I think you all are being extreme thinking these people wouldn't want medical intervention if in an accident.

As someone from a country with universal healthcare, I can't help but think some of them oppose it because it threatens their ability to become ultra rich. Opposing universal health care because VA offers low quality care and Beverly Hills doctors provide top notch care is *exactly* why universal healthcare works, it breaks down barriers. Americans pay more than any other country for worse care and it saddens me to see.

YES. I was actually surprised that only one person walked forward...the idea of universal healthcare has become increasingly popular with the American public (not like a decade ago when things were more mixed) but yeah, I think they all stand to lose money if the system changes. I also hate how the question was whether the US should have universal healthcare, all but one disagreed, but when they all sat down they were like "Well of course everyone should have access to healthcare, but..." and then did the whole song and dance about why it wouldn't work in the US. Whether or not adopting universal healthcare in the States would be difficult or complicated was not the question, whether or not we should have it was. And neither are questions anyway...of COURSE transitioning to universal healthcare will be hard for the US, but of COURSE we should still do it, for both humanistic and economic reasons.
@ZainAhmed-ns2di
@ZainAhmed-ns2di 2 года назад
Except care in America is much better than care in Canada. The problem is the people pay too much for it. Quality needs to be raised across the board and the government should take that hit. This is coming from a canadian. Plus doctors get paid by the government anyway so they are becoming ultra rich as well

I'm so surprised that almost all of them were against universal healthcare! "you get what you pay for"- countries with universal healthcare still have private options for rich people. The base-line free health care is still amazing, but you can get fancy treatments or super quick treatment at private clinics. The medical field will throw you under the bus if you don't keep up the impressions they want - complaints about a doctor being 'hostile' to an opposition like an anti-vaxxer can be damning to their reputation and paint more dire pictures about who they are.

And everything that was said against it is just something they are mistaken about: 1. You don't get what you pay for. Theoretically, a universal healthcare should cost the average person more, yet America's costs are so high that no universal health care is more expensive to the average person when compared to America. And I don't mean similar costs that just barely put them over the edge, I mean American's are on average paying a multiple of 2+ more for their health care. 2. They aren't getting higher quality because they spend more. America's health care is frequently placed among the worst in developed countries. 3. It really is that simple which is why it's crazy to say it isn't. If every other developed country can figure it out, including so many that have a worse economy than the US, they should be able to figure it out as well.

The superficial layer might be cured only through science, however the energy is where the true healing happens. Science will catch up this decade. Nicholas Sides public healthcare is not perfect, there are lines and there are waiting lists, but your regular “family doctor” (idk how to say that in English) is free: you are sick, you need meds, you can go there and being visited and you don’t pay. More importantly: if you hurt yourself very badly and you need to go to the hospital you can call the ambulance and they bring you to the hospital and heal you and you don’t have to pay. You don’t have to pay for insuline for diabetes and most meds for serious illnesses are free or partially free. If you need for example to be visited quickly there is plenty of places where you can pay and be visited almost immediately and the majority of people uses them, but it remains the fact that if you fall and break your leg and you are in atrocious pain you don’t have to think about not calling an ambulance because it will cost you thousands. Public and universal healthcare in Europe goes along with private healthcare, is not a perfect service but at least no one is left behind.

Holistic therapy might be what you need for pain management or combating the side effects of western medicine (nausea as a side effect from chemo, etc) as an adjunct therapy, but also holistic medicine won't do too much if you come into the ER with a stroke or heart attack. The beauty of the surplus of information nowadays is that people can pick and chose what works for them day to day but neither side should be looking down on the other profession.

There are multiple studies that show the US's current system costs more than to change. We would save 2 to 5 trillion after just the first 10 years. It’s not like doctors completely throw out anything that wasn’t made in a lab. Otherwise we wouldn’t have a lot of current medicine. If it works and it’s proven to work, it gets used by doctors. That’s how the scientific method works lol the only issue is that they have to be able to repeat the results for it to “work.” Medicine that is proven to heal people is just medicine. After seeing multiple doctors and doing her own research on symptom management it would make sense that she was more informed about her illness and body than a general practitioner who hasn't heard about their condition before. For example, I was diagnosed with POTS by a cardiologist. I've seen dozens of doctors who when I tell them my diagnosis they go: "what is that?". In that case, I come in as an informed person. Some doctors appreciate that, and others don't.
@fekinuhhh3495
@fekinuhhh3495 4 года назад
Kirsie Lundholm yeah but what happens after you tell them what your diagnosis is? Do they just say ‘well I haven’t got a clue what you’re on about so I’ll just let you decide what’s best’? Yes not every GP is going to know every disease and how to treat it but that’s not necessarily their job. They are called *general* practitioners for a reason, they haven’t specialised in a certain area so wont know how to treat every problem they face. Their job, if they can’t treat your problem, is to send you to a specialist in that area, not let you take your health into your own hands, which is what this woman seems to want to do. So yes you may be more informed on specific diseases that you personally have, but they have access to your medical records and can very quickly and easily decide, based on their years of professional training, how best to proceed, whether that’s to prescribe you something there and then or to send you on to someone with specific training in that field.

I’m glad they brought in an integrative medical doctor. That’s as close to the “holistic” side as I feel comfortable going because ultimately, I still want to be seen by a medical doctor! My psychiatrist happens to also be an integrative medical practitioner. I do take medication, but there are other areas we look at and consider, that may need adjustment beyond just simply taking medication. He also performs a lot of medical studies (relating to alternative options but also relating to medication). When we work on the more “holistic” side, we focus on what there is sufficient scientific evidence on vs just what may “feel” to be good with no evidence at all (or evidence that contradicts it from being good). Same with other integrative medical doctors I have seen. I feel the latter can potentially be dangerous in a medical setting.

There are strengths and weaknesses in both biomedicine (western) and traditional medicine (holistic/eastern). For the best treatment it is great to combine both! For more preventative, do maybe a bit more eastern, and for acute cases, mostly biomedical. There's no need to be divisive.

I live in Europe and I'm also a med student. Yes, long waiting lists are a huge issue and state funding is never enough. I work with physicians every day and everyone here is complaining about the system, however these are medical professionals talking about fundamental human rights... Maybe it's a matter of colture, I don't know, it just sounds unbelivable

"I have a chronic illness" type of person
@down-to-earth-mystery-school
First if you aren’t Black, you don’t understand the prejudice they have and continue to face in the medical system. Second, if you don’t live with a chronic illness like she and I do, you also don’t understand the level of doctor’s ignorance and arrogance that you intersect with in the modern medical field. You begin to feel like a lab rat, while they try out all the things that might take your symptoms away, while you spend thousands of dollars to never get to the root cause.

as if traditional medicine is not abusive specially towards ppl who have cancer making they pay hundreds for treatment and sometimes they don't even have the right approach and treat ppl as merch. I know two ppl who had cancer one of them the doctor said in her face that there was nothing he could for her anymore. She had to rely on alternative medicine as her only hope and it's getting better. In the other case the person already believed in alternative medicine and she go straight to them and she is now cancer free and guess what? Her doctor didn't charge her anything for appointment.
