As you may be aware, I have always stated that I don't need a humidifier due to where I live. Could I have been wrong? Join in as I share my thoughts and unbox this Elechomes SH8820 humidifier. Could this possibly be what my indoor plants are missing?

Thank you! As a fellow Floridian this is something I’ve been thinking about too and found this video very helpful.

Glad it was helpful! I had been monitoring the humidity level in my home and noticed at some points it's down to 30%. I had no idea it dipped that low. It seems to be a result of running the AC, which is on year round. I never thought I might need a humidifier living in South Florida, but after doing some research, I think it will be helpful. Thanks for watching.

Its pretty humid here in mid GA (not near like FL), and I take full advantage of it by taking most of my houseplants outdoors...a way to declutter & a great way to watch them thrive. I keep a few indoors but come spring, I focus on the outdoors thru fall. If I lived in FL I doubt I would keep many houseplants because the plants that I love & fuss the most over are the kind that you find planted in the ground year long in FL that I have to bring into my garage in the winter like my ferns, hibiscus, shrimp plants, plumeria, allocasia, etc. ( I can keep some cactus & succulents outdoors in the winter by covering them when the temps go below freezing. ) Anyway, a humidifier for me is just not a necessity.:)

I used to use a humidifier when I grew orchids inside in Zone 9 here in CA many years ago. Buying new filters and later new humidifiers got expensive; so I stopped. Still in CA but in Zone 10b with no humidifier and my plants (Albo, Thai, deliciosa, SOH, tetrasperma, AV, and spider plants) are growing fine. Relative humidity inside the house ranges 40%-50%+ whether the window (next to the plants) are open or not. I also don't grow high maintenance plants like you do, which would benefit from the extra or constant humidity. I do love the foggy/misty look coming out of your machine!

I hope you do an update review later, Peggy, about using the humidifier! Trust me, there are days I'm watching other growers using humidifiers with the misty look and I'm tempted but ... I can't justify it for my own use right now. I'm looking forward to hearing how your plants grew beautifully with it! :)

Seems like there are many of us who have been considering if a humidifier would be helpful. I'm anxious to see how this may help. I thought my humidity remained at least 40%, but recently discovered at night mine dips in the 30% range. I would have never imagined. Good luck!

I have an air innovations humidifier that I bought on QVC with easy pay 💰. It has done wonders for my plants! Most of my plants are in one room but some are in a different room so I got a second one for them. 💕💕

Yes Peggy I have an Equate Humidifyer I bought 2 mos ago. And while I don't. Even see the moister coming out like urs. As its a different way cheaper kind. I bought a humidity metor & my humidity runs about 50 % day & with house closed up at nite....60/ 62... Never have I seen leaves on all my plants even ferns literally stand.. I was shocked. We don't run air but lile fresh outside air.. We also are a humid state. Not as good as u but right on ur tail..😁 So my thinking is they either love it or they are Big Fakers ...lol... Also are putting lots of babies out & my ones in water seem to grow like faster.. Yours sounds wonderful.. Love to have one. But hey I'm happy with my little guy My plants ❤ him too. So I don't need always the best..Honey again Thanks for sharing.......

I am in SC and it's very humid here most of the time. I don't use a humidifier and my plants are thriving. I only turn my ceiling fans on. I doubt that I could stand for it to be anymore humid than it already is. Plus I am not willing to ruin my floors and furniture for plants sake.
@PeggysPlants
@PeggysPlants 4 года назад
LOL, thanks for sharing. I don't plan on ruining my furniture either. 😳 That would be terrible and costly. However, I am able to increase the humidity level where my plants are, without causing excess moisture in my home. So far, I haven't noticed any moisture deposits on my windows, furniture or counters, etc. I think I've found a good balance. Thanks for mentioning this point as it was one of my concerns as well. Thanks for watching!

@PeggysPlants
@PeggysPlants 4 года назад
I totally get it. The humidity in our area is even higher than in Tampa, so I just knew I didn't need one. After doing research on tropical plants and humidity and finding just how low my indoor humidity levels dip at night and at various times of the year, I decided to try one. I had been offered a couple to review in the past and passed on the offers. I'm happy this opportunity came along when it did. Thanks for watching.

I have had great results from using my humidifier although I haven't had to use one in recent weeks because it's already so humid here. I will say that most tropical plants will benefit from humidity.

Hi Peggy hope all is well!👋 I'm in the northeast and in our warm summers nothing crisps up my plants like air conditioning. I already have this humidifier and I absolutely love it! I do use distilled water because my water is on the hard side and mineral deposits are a problem for me. Thanks for putting out the word on a great machine!

Hello Peter, thanks for sharing your experience with this humidifier. I'm really excited about it and look forward to seeing how my plants respond. I now run my water through my zero water filter, so mineral deposits shouldn't be a problem. So far, I'm very impressed with this humidifier. Glad to hear you are too! Thanks for watching.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I don't think I will have to turn mine on in the middle of summer, but I may be wrong. I think our heavy use of year round AC impacts the indoor humidity. Maybe I will try turning it on every other day. Good to know and thanks for the tip!

I live in a dry climate, DRY!!! To get to 5% humidity in the air is normal. I use a humidifier to breathe efficiently. I lived in a house once with a built in humidifier that worked in conjunction with the ac/furnace. It was awesome.

@Bartlomiej Kurowski my living room is a open space, does the humidity have to be in a room where the moisture stays? My humidifier only covers 220 square feet. My living room is larger. However o have my plants closet to the humidifier
@PeggysPlants
@PeggysPlants 3 года назад
In order for the plants to benefit from the humidity, they need to be where it is humid. If you aren't sure about the humidity level where your plants are, you may want to purchase a hygrometer.

Thanks for the review! I live in Miami and also find that running my A/C drastically reduces my indoor humidity. I just used the link in your description to check out this humidifier on Amazon and upon checkout, in my cart, it says that your discount promotional code is not valid. Was there a certain time period after making this video that it expired? I am just seeing your video now :/ Thanks Peggy

I have two of these exact humidifiers but stopped using them because of white dust and wood furniture feeling tacky. I tried every type of water from distilled to my own well water but still had the same issues along with the house looking foggy. I ordered the filter you insert in the water tank but that didn’t help either. It took days to get my wood furniture back to a healthy shine. I hope yours works for you. P.S. I bought several temp/humidity monitors and with the A/C running my humidity by itself is 54% which my plants seem to do fine with. So no more humidifiers for me.

Lynn a small fan really helps air circulation. It disperses humidity and cuts down on condensation. Plus it gives your plants a little workout!

I have noticed this humidifier runs both warm and cool mist. Will you update us on which one is better for plants, please? I have used cool mist only humidifier before and if the humidifier gets too close, the mist can actually burn(or freeze?) the leaves 😩, so I am very interested in getting warm mist but unsure of how it would work. 🤔 Again, thank you for the video.

I always thought the humidity process happened elsewhere. My plants do fine without a humidifier but I just wanted to try it. My leaves turned yellow and fell off as I figured. Maybe because the humidifier produced cooler air than how its produced outside (cool draft) or just overwhelmed them with more moisture than the leaves could handle. Humidity is definitely needed but I wont use a humidifier. Also I'm not sure if plants drink from the leaves. I always thought from the roots only.
@PeggysPlants
