Well believe it or not, there was a time before the internet when in order to distribute software, it was actually printed in books and magazines and then you typed it in your computer. So that book is actually a software package in disguise. Amazing book!

Yeah, kids nowadays do not know how it was like back then. To acquire a program you had to have real life contacts with other people. If you were lucky it was on tape.

I read of a radio station that played spectrum software over the air, when regular programming ended, and you could record the sounds, and have the software. I love that!

Hey, those books with BASIC program listings in them are pretty classic. To be fair, if the last line was numbered 4000 it probably was only 400 lines long, you usually increment by 10 when writing BASIC. 😁

I'm not surprised by that "code-it-yourself" program at the beginning. Video games on PC that you had to code yourself were pretty common in the 80s. You could buy the book and you'd have to copy the thousands of lines of codes on your PC. I'm so glad technology has evolved.
