The 'in-between' shots are often the hardest, and the 50yd shot falls into that category.
You may be hitting them long, shot, or just being inconsistent with the strike, but follow the tips in this video and master the 50yd pitch shot, it can be quite an easy shot to play.
Do this and those shots will soon feel much easier

One of the very best videos I have ever seen on pitch shots. A real keeper. Need both rotation and extension and a wide swing arc. Great advice.

Yet this instruction is different than what Phil Michelson teaches in his" hinge and hold" method. I wonder who has had greater success in their chosen career of golf for a living.

@@buddybluewater8313 Is this video a competition about success or about insight into technique and cause and effect? That is the question.

Great explanation of arms and body turn. What about the wrists? Ive found this method works great as long as you keep the wrist soft (not flippy or stiff) so that the momentum and weight of the club work together to get the ball in the air and land softly. Excellent short game video.

Used this process several times on recent golf trip and results were pretty good. Need to work on clubface setup to get a little more loft.

Thank You very much for the helpful video. My huge problem at pitch shots are shanks, these occur occasionally but are very frustrating. This turning of the body to the right without dragging the club inside is difficult for me, maybe You have some remedies ?

I wish I'd seen this video prior to today's round. As a novice, I've been spending most of my practice time at the range and at home working on mechanics of a full swing. Thankfully, today's round showed that practice is starting to pay off. Unfortunately, it also showed how I've ignored my short game and 50-60 yd. pitching. From the 50-yard range today, I alternated between hitting tentatively and leaving the face open for ugly slices or hitting and striking it well with a shortened up full-swing mechanics and sending it sailing over the green. I'm eager to get out and practice the approach you give in the video.

Should you use wrist?

Are you contacting the ground with the bounce rather than the leading edge? From the sound, and your set-up, I am guessing this is the case?
@ruudengelhart5127
@ruudengelhart5127 Год назад
Chris, thanks. What about the wrist? Does it stay the same amount of cupped throughout the swing?
@ChrisRyanGolf
@ChrisRyanGolf Год назад
Hey Ruud, likely to change a little as per full swing, flattening a touch on the backswing and then losing that through impact

The wide right wrist is great, but often people forget to get width from a wide right arm (reduce right arm bend). Both of these things promote a much simpler and repeatable swing.

As usual another great video .... however .... with these shots it's also veeeeery important to understand where the weight is at setup and through the shot = toes.... heel... centered?!?! = TOES .... everything else will not give width in that swing...

Great video as always Chris. With the set up, is the weight favouring the left side or 50/50. I usually go 60/40. Thank you. Milorad

I put the alignment stick down my belt but due to my beer belly, it sticks out the back like an erected tail. I tried to point the stick to the ground like you instructed but I had to get into a position like I was playing Limbo. I then fell backward, and the stick went into the ground and I got fiberglass spinters in my left testicle. Not sure this drill is for me...LOL! :D

Thanks Tony, typically I’d reach for 56, but this was 60 due to the water, lack of green etc, so will depend on the situation

@@ChrisRyanGolf just want to say i did this yesterday 2 times from around 50 yds and was within 10ft both times. Where i play alot of the holes are 350-400 yds and I'm long off the tee so I'm always usually 80yds or less so this really helped me out. Thanks for this big time.
