I had back injury back in 1998. The following years had total of 4 back surgeries. Injury causing permanent nerve damage at the cauda equina, affecting the ability to have an erection, loss of sensation regarding bladder and bowl functions, and unable to empty my baldder. Loss of muscle mass in my quads and loss of any sensation in my right leg. Now, after never giving up, I returned to work 11 years ago but still deal with permanent losses. I went carnivore, lion diet 168 days ago. Just switched from vegan to carnivore full blown next day. I have lost 45 pounds, wounds I had on my face for years healed completely. This past 2 months I have been getting sensation back in my right leg. I can now empty my bladder and can hold my urine and bowl functions. I also used to get kidney stones several times a year. As far as I can tell, that has resolved as well. My sleep is amazing, and my energy is incredible. This lifestyle has been nothing short of a miracle.
Wow, that is so wonderful. I'm very happy that you are getting your health back. Spread the word so we can keep our wonderful regenerative farmers in business.
I'm glad I read your comment. My dad went in for hernia repair and something happened and he's had bladder issues since then. It's been almost 3 months and he's having to wear a catheter and sometimes go to the ER for the to empty his bladder. They still won't tell him what's wrong with his bladder but I believe it's nerve damage somehow. I doubt he'd go carnivore but I've never heard of the bladder issues before and it sounds similar to what he's going through. He had bowel issues after the surgery as well and those are a little better...not back to normal...but the bladder seems shot.
@@lisak5804I would force the doctor to explain what happened. Maybe even asking for a copy of the OR notes. Something doesn’t sound right. I’ve never heard of any issues like your dad is experiencing due to that kind of surgery. I’d be very suspicious. I hope your dad gets well.
Dr. Berry this advice is right on time. I have two slipped discs and a bulge for many years and my Dr is trying to put me on lyrica for my nerve pain. I was a carnivore for a couple of years but slipped back to being unhealthy. I’m going to get back into it and get my life back in order.
Man I was vegan for 2 years and enjoyed it mostly. It has its downsides. The worst part was the mental illness that goes with a lot of vegans and how militant they are.m about it. I just saw it as a diet, it's borderline religious for some. But with carnivore most people are totally open to you eating whatever you want if full carnivore isn't working
I've noticed that as well , theres a rigid stoicism compared to happy and relaxed. A friend of mine whos wife was strict vegetarian for years never drank smoked ,exercised, was active in community, one day she went from super capable to in the hospital and dead within a week from stage 4 breast cancer
I have had 3 cervical spinal fusions and have MS lesions all over that area. So happy to be on zero insulin by week 3 on carnivore for type 1 Diabetes what a game changer. need help with myelin sheath repair
@@ianstuart5660 I know I never knew either I have had it for about 8 years & have always been on 24 hour insulin but I just can’t as my sugar is in the 5’s. I am in shock
Got it! Day 2 on Carnivore diet, do not really like it. Just too much meat. However, this video fell on my feed tonight. I have chronic nerve pain (A-Typical neuralgie) on the left side of my face/head since December 2015, and it is 24/7). It hurts, a deep burning pain. If their is a chance the carnivore diet may help, I will give it a fair chance, as nothing else has helped up to now. Thanks doc.
Finding certain genetic traits that make you prone to autoimmune diseases will substantially increase the time it takes to repair the damage. Definitely in the year or two category.
Yes - avoid fruits and milk. Dr. Berry doesn’t fully explain it, but autophagy only happens when insulin is very low. Dairy raises insulin without raising blood sugar. And of course, fruits raise blood sugar and insulin. Good luck!
Great info!! In October, 2022, I went numb from neck down and finally doctor found I needed my 4th cervical fusion, and lots of pressure was being put on my spinal cord, and caused a lot of neurological damage!! I had gone carnivore not long before this happened. Nerves have healed a lot, but still have some minor problems!! Also my spinal surgeon said I would need another lumbar fusion after I healed from cervical one. When he saw how great I was doing, and off my walker and cane, and pain was minimal, he released me and saw no reason to do the lumbar fusion!! Thank you for ALL your help!! God bless you!! ❤🤗🙏🙏
Does tour neuropathy on your feet on the top of your feet? I'm a housekeeper and the tops of my feet feel sprained or broken and ache and feel sometime burning... tyia. I have started keto low carb 1 week ago, some better...
Dr Berry, you are the best. I need to apologize for my previous vegan rudeness. I’ve been watching your videos (and others) and I’ve read one of your books over the past 8 months. With carnivore way of eating, I’m ever grateful for my new wellbeing. Thank you for all the info.
Congratulations. It’s hard to change any mindset as we have all been brainwashed on many narratives I would suggest also checking James Corbett and his documentary - History of Oli where he talks about the Rockefellers and their beginnings of the medical establishment
@@garrettbredall9922 hey man, it’s fine. We understand why the anger and hate, right? It’s a lack of nutrients, and really they’re allowed to eat what they want to, we do. And if they choose to shorten their lives by being bitter, angry, and hateful they’re also free to do that too. They just can’t go hands on. Besides being like they are allows us the opportunity to zen in the face of such vitriol, it makes us better if we choose to use it properly.
I broke my tail bone when I was 19 on a water slide at Raging Waters which they removed a few years later, probably because of complaints. I've had sciatica ever since. Sometimes my left leg would give out when walking. Eventually, my left leg below my knee & foot became numb & I would have painful electrical shocks in that area from nerve damage. I'm 58 now & after a few months of keto & then more carnivore, off & on, my numbness went away. My back feels much better & I can hike again up & down mountains for 2 to 3 hours several times a week. When I went to a specialist doctor 20 years ago, he said I wouldn't heal & surgery usually doesn't help. Just have to deal with it. I don't go to doctors anymore because every time I have, I get pissed off. One doctor even told me I had bad posture when my back was flairing up so I was hunched over. I wish all doctors were like you, Dr. Berry.
Interesting! As a pre-teen, I "cracked" my tailbone falling on a stair after feet slipped out from under. Passed out momentarily and saw lightning, but in the 70s , doctors were at their worst. No x-ray done, nothing. Just had a bout of the same kind of sciatica in my 60s. I did get a traction device and have been ketovore for months now. Am much better!
Yeah doctors suck big time. Thats amazing news. I have had this hip thing for a long time I need to get on it now that I've unpunched the rest of myself. Cos you kind of clam up around that stuff and you can't always deal with it directly without unfurling the body bit by bit so I am back to the root of it and at a loss of what to try next with it. Worth giving carnivore a go for a few weeks and see what happens. So long as I have garlic and butter I can eat pretty much anything...
I have a painful tailbone (caused by falling but also super tight glutes and sacroiliac area) and the sciatica gets bad. Going carnivore has definitely helped my sciatica but now my inside legs from ankle to below the knee is numb on both sides. Accompanied by tingling toes. Driving me mad. Starting today I’m gonna eat beef and salt only to see if it helps 😅
@Carnivoreclaire you probably have a trapped nerve. I remember learning that if sensation or pain radiates towards your extremities things are getting worse and if they're getting closer to the spine it's getting better. I've always used that to decide if a movement was OK or not. My sacrum has been messed up since I carried my heavy baby on one side for ages. I used to be able to hang upside down and crack my whole spine pleasantly into alignment but since the sacrum went everything else has gone funny and I can't solve it. Sometimes feeling numbness and tingling is a sensation if a nerve coming back to life. I had a locke dshoulder on one side and it didn't feel bad at all...after getting massage it started to come back to life but it felt tingly and numb...but it was soooo numb before it didn't even feel numb if that makes sense. But numb like completely don't feel anything is usually a sign something is blocked either by tight muscles trapping and squeezing the nerve. Or nerve damage. My mom had that thing diabetics get...neuropathy and when she started taking b vitamins they started to tingle and hurt as they were coming back to feeling again. So might be that too. Do you take b vitamins and magnesium those are bith great for nerves. Maybe you're also just walking different now and using different muscles. Anyway that's all I know. Hope it is of some use.
I have degenerative disc disorder, had three surgeries the last a fusion in ny lower back. Also have bulging discs in my neck. My sciatic nerve was very damaged. For years i could barely walk nd had constant often severe pain. Been keto for a year and now mostly carnivore. While i still have pain and it can get extremely painful at times. It still has improved so much from where i was. My fibromyalgia and arthritis are also so much better too. .
Yes, congratulations!! I'm 72 and have experienced great health benefits!! Have had 5 spinal fusions, have degenerative disc disease, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, and fatty liver. Pain is minimal now and no longer type 2 diabetic, anxiety and depression are gone, no more fatty liver, have energy and am now able to enjoy life again!! Also nerve damage has improved! God bless you!! Gotta love Dr. Berry!!
@@danpan001 I'm not sure,as my doctor never commented on that until my last blood work and I asked how would I know if it was gone. He looked at the related markers and said he saw no sign of fatty liver. I didn't wonder about it until I heard a few carnivores say that their fatty liver was gone. I had been carnivore for about 2 years at that time, but it may have gone away long before then. Hope you have great results!!
5 and a half years meat based keto. I can tell you what has helped me and my fibromyalgia unrelenting nerve pain to almost completely gone. First of it was meat based keto that started the healing. Then 2 years ago I came across information on mega dosing thiamine (b1). Following that protocol for 2 years, I would say I’m probably 90% better. I still have an occasional time where I’m in pain. But I can usually pinpoint what I did differently that contributed to the pain. I take the higher absorption form of B1 which is Benfotiamine. Protocols can be found online and at RU-vid. This is what has worked for me. Do the research, speak to a physician. Most of my keto, vitamin, and supplement knowledge has come from Dr Berry 🙏🏼
Thank you for sharing this. The covid shots have given me nerve damage.I am walking more now with one cane. Two years ago,two canes and was barely getting in and out of the car. So grateful for the information on Carnivore and keto. Its helped me so much!
I had 2 back surgeries. In 2010, most of T- 4 5 6 7 were removed. It was compressing my spine. 2017, they put hardware in my lower back. I’ve been carnivore since January of 2024. Hoping for Relief!
I understand completely l, same here 16 years ago for me same vertebrae, cage and 6 huge bolts. I was informed but still shocked to see the hardware. I have been carnivore 11 months. My pain is lessened, but now my SI joint is bad. But I don't take any Rx, and I use less advil but I can't go without it. Topical lidocaine if I'm in dire circumstances. I'm 72 so every day out and about is aporeciated.
My 20 year old neuropathy severe burning pain, hot flushes are diminished by 90% 3 months since i cut carbs and went on BBBE. Skin issues still bother me.
Nerves grow back about 1 millimeter every 4 days, so my doctor said many years ago! Nerves can be irrepairable, but nerves can grow back between dead nerves like tree routes. The idea is to keep carbs low like this great man says, AND eat all the liquid B vitamines you can find for the sheathings to repair themselves!
But leafy greens, beets and red onions are touted as high in neurotropic factor, to help rebuild nerves. Do you deem these exceptions to your "low carb" rule?
Wow! RU-vid must've been reading my mind. I was thinking of what I can do about the increasing nerve damage in my fingers, then this video popped up! Thanks for the information!
The great Dr. Richard K. Bernstein recently celebrated his 90th birthday. He pioneered this way of controlling diabetes (he’s type 1) and then quit engineering and went to medical school, hoping that the medical community would then take him seriously. Mostly they haven’t. Bernstein’s reported that in his own case and with many of his patients, nerve damage sometimes reverses after years of tight control due to a low-carbohydrate diet such as carnivore. Diabetic gastroparesis due to neuropathy of the vagus nerve sometimes goes away, but it’s far from guaranteed. After over 3 years it hasn’t happened for me, but I spent maybe 30 years doing a bad job controlling my type 1 diabetes and maybe the damage is too great to be reversed.
Don’t EVER give up! Our bodies are intricately designed to heal themselves if we give it the right balance of healthy nutrients, sunlight, movement, sleep, fasting, and “happy” thoughts. I’ve been amazed at how powerful seemingly small things can positively (or negatively) add up to affect our health. ♥️ & 🙏🏽 for your continued healing! P.S. doctors used to think brain cells can’t regenerate, but we now know they can. My cousin’s doctor recently told him his body had generated new blood vessels near his heart to create new pathways for blood to flow around other blood vessels that were 90% blocked. What an exciting time to be alive!
Alcoholic neuropathy. I continued to drink for 2+ years after it first started. I am 13 months sober and still hoping for continued healing. I stil have regular twitchig in my calves and sore feet. Hopefully these next 12 months bring me more healing 🙏. It is disappointing i let things get so bad.
I've actually had nerve damage repair really fast with lions mane mushrooms. You can also try Portobello mushrooms and you can cook them and eat them by themselves. You really can't overcook a mushroom either.
@@LeviPage I couldn't find the brand, but I'm sure any will work. And as for portobello's, just use any from the store that are organic cut them up cook them in an iron skillet or whatever Skillet you have with some salt and you're good to go.
I severed the nerve to my left index finger in 2003. Due to surgeon stuff ups they kept looking in the wrong place and decided it was all in my head. 8 months later they found the severed nerve, it was right where i said it was, in the centre of my palm they couldnt believe it. So they didnt perform the surgery within 2 weeks like theyre supposed to, nowhere near it. I ate a whole food diet, huge salads, fruits and 800ml of carrot juice a day, you cant even see the scar unless youre looking for it. The betacrotene was very very good for vit a for my skin. And the head surgeon of the hospital went as far as to ask me "what did you put on the scar to heal it so well?" I said "nothing but loads of sorbelene cream, $4 a tub at the supermarket!" I had no idea about vit a for skin healing, it was much more likely the carrot juice and all the salads i was eating. Zero sugar/processed foods, absolute zero. But i only regained about 60% regrowth of the nerve because of the delayed surgery, theres a permanent tingling whenever i move my left index finger. Maybe if i was eating MEAT it would have been better, who knows. But it was a miracle that i taught myself how to play guitar all over again, I'm sure the constant movement of my finger helped to eradicate much of the scar tissue that would otherwise have grown into the surgery wound. Maybe carnivore would have produced 100% regrowth, who knows. But i would have included a lot more MEAT into my recovery if only i had known of the benefits of red meat. Its a whole food in itself, it contains everything you need to heal and grow. It would have been nothing to include a big fat steak in my diet every night for dinner. The things you learn in hindsight!!
I just walked out of my pain clinic where I get weekly nerve blocks in my spine. I went no carbs,no starches like potatoes, carrots, corn,no fats, skinless chicken breast broiled, sockeye salmon once in a while, plain green veges , mushrooms, few fruits, and my lupus disappeared, inflammation gone ,diabetes gone kidney damage healed, heart attack healed, off blood thinners from strike, lost weight, just have joint damage from the arthritis.
I had chronic inflammatory demilinating pollyneuropathy for 28 years, eating a high-fat high protein diet reversed it... along with fasting intermittently. The Doctors couldn't believe it as they are not taught anything about the power of our diet!
had a fall, got gastroparesis and concussion wih left side weakness... THIS has been what I've been doing to not get migraines, weakness in left side and trouble passing poop. 3 weeks to stop feeling tingling and stinging in genitals 6 weeks to feel my intestines 3 months to be able to feed more than once a day... 4 months in... still a bit weak on the left side of my body, but can eat pretty much normally... slow passing poop... but normal
Oh, man! I am jumping up and down in total agreement! I adjusted my eating habits to fix my body, and yes, it's a work in progress. I do feel the difference and it's a life change... And I like it!
@Dr Berry. I read Red Onion should be a daily mainstay to repair of total body nerves to include the brain. Any opinion? I agree with zero carb but red onions have a small percentage of carbs. Will you respond please?

@@jesss7302 I added it to a coconut oil based massage oil. I started at a 5% mixture. Slowly worked it up. At first I applied it frequently as I could. After that I do it at most once per day.
I had Type 2 and was seeing 180-200 fasting blood sugars. And then the nerve pain in my feet started. After a dr visit and labs that showed my A1C at 7.9 for the second time in a row, cold turkey carnivore. Nerve pain is GONE. 40 lb weight loss so far. Morning fasting blood sugars now 90’s-110’s. I go in about 3 weeks for my next set of labs and I’m curious how they will look. It has changed my life!
I have what I think is nerve damage. Doesn't matter how I sleep my arms constantly go numb. My sleep has suffered alot because of this. I also started body twitching.... does this sound like nerve damage???
@KenDBerryMD: I’ve been following you for two or three years now. i’ve been on carnivore since about two years after arriving in the Caribbean from the Middle East (2020). And my blood sugar has gone up instead of down. The last reading I had was 7.1. The reading prior to that was eight. The 7.1 I believe is a direct result of my doctor taking me off of carnivore and putting me on Metformin. Prior to that when I was in the Middle East, I was doing keto and my numbers were 5.9, 6 , 6.1. So I’m curious. What would cause my blood sugar, cholesterol and triglycerides to go up on the carnivore diet? Oh, I should also mention that while doing carnivore I’ve lost 60 pounds. But still my numbers have gone up instead of down. My blood pressure also has gone up since going carnivore. It’s controllable with blood pressure meds which I’ve never had to take before.
While ive dropped almost 40 lbs since march, im still feeling awful & weak. Now i have a different issue and not sure whats going on. First, i suffer from H.M.P. potential MS and autonomic dysregulation, so, i have a hard time staying upright, controlling my bp, hr, etc.. Last week, our sheep got out and i had to help hubby round them up. It was warm and very humid which is not good for me. Animal control stopped by to see how things were and we struck up a conversation. That was my first mistake. Then, i felt my knees buckling and realized i waited to late to go in the house. I collapsed on the ground, heart racing & sweating profusely but still coherent. After about 10 minutes, i was able to get to my feet and in the house with her and my husbands help. However, i havent felt good sense and actually gained a few lbs without changing anything. Now my gut feels bloated, i can't eat as much, but my weight isn't reflecting that. Should i be concerned?
I don’t have nerve damage but I have occipital neuralgia nerve impingement, as you know Dr that causes dreadful very bad head, neck and face pain.? I’m in Perth Australia and I can’t seem to meet a specialist that can do surgery on me for decompression surgery to loosen up those nerves that’s causing me grieve for over 15 years. I’m in pain every day n night .. even with cortisol injections only takes the edge off. Had abaltion (RFA) last December 2023.. wasn’t successful.. surgeon didn’t do it in the neck but head in 4 places .. I knew it wouldn’t work because pain is coming from nerve impingement back of my neck. Pain so bad every day I can’t do much in my day. I cry alot from this pain and side effects from pain meds . I don’t know how much more pain I can take how many more days and years ? I just wanna die to stop this feeling..
In Jan 2023, I had foot surgery and developed CRPS (look it up 😭) in that foot. Relatively speaking, I was diagnosed quickly and within six months (again, relatively quickly) I was stable on LDN and Tramadol. Jan 2024 I went carnivore and have since been able to stop Tramadol. I remain hopeful to taper off of LDN over time. It’s been slow process but, I am successfully treating a condition that is often chronic and progressively worsening. 🥩&🍳
Yes, I had a skin biopsy taken from my left hip and ankle April 2018 that showed small fiber nerve damage in my lower leg (I'd had worsening peripheral neuropathy for a couple years at that point). My doctor prescribed hydroxychlorquinine (sp?), an anti-malarial drug with a risk of eye damage for long-term use, but I never got that filled. I went keto, then carnivore and now everything is great. It was after three weeks or so that I felt (for the first time) the spot on my ankle where the skin biopsy was taken (removed a chunk of skin about the size and shape of a pencil eraser). The biopsy site on my hip was already well-healed by this time. My feet (and hands) kept improving in dexterity, and my hands recovered pretty quickly. I kept numb spots on the outside of my feet for a long time. Then I changed my shoes to a neutral insole (Chuck's) and finally that improved. I still have occasional zingers and needles, but they're very short-lasting. I don't exercise much, and I am trim bc carnivore. Hope this helps! ❤
All you need is a miug of brown linseed + a mug of boiling water + a knob of butter blended well. Add a splash of boiling water if too stiff or dry. And blend well. When cooled but not cold (it is easier to apply when warm). Cover all areas where there are nerves causing pain, when nerves are painful and inflamed they become thicker with scar tissue. The linseed poultice will melt away this. Leave on fot 8 hrs + and repeat each day for 5 days. God Bless.😮 😊
I had some foot neuropathy. I’ve been doing the carnivore diet for about nine months. I can feel an improvement. I am hoping it will completely reverse. Only time will tell.
