"I can't tell everybody's story. I can only tell mine. This is not a story about war. It's a story about freedom and its cost." -Roy Benavidez in his 1995 autobiography, "Medal of Honor:A Vietnam Veteran's Story" Quote taken from Wikiquotes.

@@ghomerhust He trained another bad ass soldier as well. One of the guys who saw combat in the Gulf. I forget his name now, but the dude went off quite a tear in CQC. So much so that he got over zealous and pushed threw 3 building clears by himself without getting hit as his group was doing doctrinal clearing as most know it. A lot of the soldiers for long term would wind up training a lot of soldiers in specialty combat tactics and often passing along a few tricks that they wish they knew along the way. Some people being built different isn't the word. A great example of heroic action that was almost dis-reguarded was in Afghan, a convoy ambush cost a lead humve and the rear humve in a street, the second humve in row had a soldier willing to risk it all, jumped to the first Humve and started displacing the enemy position at the front with the mounted M2 Browning cutting threw the brick wall of the frontal ambush point and screaming for the convoy to push past and leave. The man in question jumped onto an active burning vehicle and burned alive dumping that belt into that ambush attack force. He was going to get passed for any award, but the boys spoke and challenged it hard cause there are lads that just need credit for there actions! Its the mad lads like the one in the video above that speak up that soldiers get there credit sometimes. Wishing you well, and remember, every combatant has a story. Some are just Legendary while others prove that keeping the machine rolling is something that's needed, not wanted. The problem with time-frame is technology usually outpaces the tactics, war changes on the regular and heroes are born in the moment!

The brain is a crazy thing. Back when i was 20 i fell off a ladder and dislocated my ankle and broke my tailus bone in 8 places. In the ER i was completely alert and the surgeon attempted to relocate my ankle. The orderlies held me down and they attempted to relocate it 8 times. I ended up passing out and when i woke up after surgery i did not remember any of my time in the ER but I would get sick to my stomache every time i saw my surgeon. Then randomly 15 years later i woke up one morning and i remembered everything. No idea why. Lol i still wish i didnt

Yeah. Sometimes we forget stuff for a *reason.* With my dad, there's a year and part of the house he grew up in that he can't remember. He's tried, but keeps running into a concrete wall covered in barbed wire. He told a psychologist about his efforts once and the psychologist dang near jumped across the desk in his haste to tell Dad to *NOT DO THAT.*

Well, I didn’t expect that emotional roller coaster this morning. Thank you for sharing your story. Please don’t feel like just because you didn’t have as hard of a time as Ray did that your journey isn’t worth sharing or is somehow less important. Everyone deserves their story to be told no matter how hard or easy it was. I am so happy to see you are on the upswing. Can’t wait to hear more from you and learn your entire story. Little update: WE DID END UP ADOPTING THE TWO PUPPERS I MENTIONED IN ONE OF YOUR VIDEO LAST MONTH! We decided to name them Starfox (Fox for short. Named after the video game) and I am convinced she is 1/2 Fox because she often acts more like a Fox than a dog. That baby girl can run faster than any dog I have ever seen and she makes it look easy. And the second pup we named Rocket (from guardians of the galaxy). They are adjusting very well. They have more energy than 3 toddlers unsupervised at a kids birthday party. We have nicknamed them the chaos twins.

I've never had the privilege to serve but as a lawyer I've tried to help people some can't pay a young man, an aspiring offered a painting as payment to get him out of a jam and it is one my prized possessions. But that's a fraction of being willing to take a bullet.

I first heard of Roy though simple history. An animated history channel, had made a 10 to 12 minute video on this man. I thought it was stranger than fiction. I went immediately and looked up him just to see if they were pulling my leg. And yes, I was shocked that yes, this man existed this man did this incredible thing, despite his injuries, and got the medal of honour. What it didn’t tell was his early life, the troubles he had home. The fact that he was fairly violent to get his own way he would go fisticuffs. I did not know that he had to actually fight for his own benefits, as well as other veterans benefits when the government was going to cut them off. So I had known of Roy and what he had done, but Nicks video has enlightened me to a whole bunch of other information that I didn’t know about this great man; this amazing Green Beret.

Master Sergeant Bossavidez is one of my favorite stories. I got to meet the man once, I was very little, maybe 5 or so. Don't remember much of it, but just the fact that he was talking to a random 5 year old in a different state a few years before his death tells me all I need to know about him. Good man.

Yeah, kid had a rough childhood. Lost his dad, his mom neglected him when she started a new family, then she died and her asshole husband straight up tells him to get out, and the family that takes him in already has *eight kids.* I'm all for big families, kids don't *normally* need so much attention that spreading it out over half a dozen or more is going to hurt, but a kid like Roy who's lost so much? He's got a backlog of hugs he never received.

Great video, as always, bro. Barely noticed the audio issues. I really appreciate the personal dialog at the end because my neck was basically broken in a car accident 5 years, and I know what kind of hell you went through to be able to carry on every day. Also, since you chuckled at The Fat Electrician's mention of the Super Tweet, I still highly recommend you check out his video on that because it's one of the better unsung stories of something that had a big impact on Vietnam, or big enough, as well as the story we watched.

Hey old man, probably it's the echo in the whole building let's say there's tons of stuff in the in the building right? Sounds normal. Your voice sounds normal right? But when you move everything out of the house it becomes louder. The voice will bounce off off the walls and even the ceiling. Probably it's the feedback of the voice bouncing off the walls and the ceiling and the ground. Probably that's why.

I hear ya man, I got similar issues going on. I weld a lot by trade, and do electrical/electronics work, installs of equipmentc plunking g and maintenance of big projects on dairy farms, and have for damn near 7 years now, USMC vet, 05-2010. I been through shit. Mainly before, but also while I was in. And exposed to not so good stuff, not service related, no proof, and horrible nausea and general sickness. There’s weeks I can’t hold down dinner, of any kind, more than a couples times a week. And only gets worse, at times. Or horrible hand shaking not huge ones, but bad enough my words show it, still good enough, but shows, or my hands/arms or leg muscles lock up on me. Makes a physical job really rough at times, when factoring in all my previous injuries, I got two ruptured discs in my back, shoulda died from being electrocuted while in, not service related, though totally part of my job, now my heart tries to kill me, and does it more and more the older I get. Am 37 now. Plus permanent lung damaged, and many destroyed joints, hearing loss, list goes on with minor shit stacked up. I know a lot are in a similar boat, just makes it rough when you can barely do lots or some of what you used to do without thought. No requires time and planning ahead of schedule. And work not wrecking you with crushing hours before hand. I still gotta rock 80 plus hour weeks, sometimes months on end. Sore I can do it, takes everything out of me. I got no energy for anything else just some YT, or watching shows I like, mainly older ones and some games. And no patience for dumb crap, haha. Thankfully I can still do my work, that I like, for a bit longer, but is rough at times, all I can do to keep going. Not umm, mentally, I have those issues at times, but rare, I had a messed up upbringing I can handle the metal part of issues, I learned fast and young. When my parents got into fights. With knives when I could barely remember, that type of deal. I mean physically I can barely keep up and doing what I do. Having the dexterity and range of motion/strength at weird angles, without limbs just failing. Or locking up. Doesn’t help many times my body rejects chicken or beef broth even, with no msg, low sodium, or regular sodium levels. Doesn’t matter, good times, and am an insomniac since I can remember. So yeah, kinda get you, I’m not far off on what happens, I’m guessing. But oh yeah, heavy chromium, of various types. DU and lots of other exposure, of toxic heavy metals. And stuff that isn’t all that good for you also, just less bad. Plus the newer version of gulf war syndrome, the mysterious sickness that affected them. Effects a lot of us a bit over a decade later, in the same place, weird. But no one cares or tries to help. At the government level, when they approved trying to help the gulf vets, decades ago. Which they should. We need it too. Just some basic care and lifting of costs. If nothing else. More would be nice, especially for those worse off than me. I wouldn’t mind it either. But only got more sick. In different ways, in the same year after going to VA. Withing weeks to months. So don’t know if they made it worse/caused something else, or just the progression of what ever is wrong and they don’t know or won’t say. Ultimately don’t matter. Because of my injuries before and stuff from when I was in, I won’t live to be an old man. I’ll be lucky if I make 55 I’m guessing. I’m best to hell, used up, and get horribly sick out of nowhere, for no known reason that almost kills me, in the past. My mid to late 20’s, I’m surprised I made 37sonve early 20’s and still in, I have to take 81mg aspirin every day, or else my heart tries to kill me.

"National Academy of the Fist" 😂 I like that one. I grew up on a farm, was milking cows at 4:30am before school, spending entire summers in the fields, hiking, hunting fishing, stacking feed...you get the picture. By the time I went to a big city middle school I was a lanky, wirey piece of sinew and muscle. Took a few weeks of people calling me a hick and older bullies thinking they can whoop a country boy getting their asses handed to them before they stopped. Never had an issue for the rest of middle school or high school. Never had an anger problem and never started a fight, but if someone decided to start one with me or one of my friends, is sure did finish it.

Big guys tend to wash out of elite training programs because big guys are higher maintenance, they need more food, they tend to injure more easily because of the bigger weight, easier to knock down because of the high center of mass, so on and so forth... Of course there are the exceptions and those aren't just big but monstrously tough dudes, however those guys tend to need to have a brutal life to be able to get stubborn enough to take the increased punishment. You ever meet one of those few proper big dudes in the elite corps of an army, just don't piss him off. 😆

If I married a woman who had young kids, those kids would fall under my responsibility as a matter of course. "The step dad that stepped up" is a meme used for mockery by waste of flesh "alphas" who have no understanding of honor and duty, let alone actual masculinity. I remember the look on my best friends face when his soon to be wifes kids first called him "Dad." It was like watching lightning strike, and he emerged from than instant an entirely changed man. Fifteen years later, their relationships are as powerful as ever.
