My cousin joined the Marines at 26, and they all called him "Grandpa".

77th division, Weaponized angry Dad energy.😅 My grandfather served in the 77th during the Philippines Campaigns (was 22 at the time), got 3 Bronze Stars, never talked about it. I didn't know the significance of it till FE made a video about it 😢.

Legit, the Marines in my unit used to pull this shit on guys in the Army units we fought against in exercises, and all it took was us stealing a sentry or 5 and finding a guy who fit in their uniforms. Sometimes the old tricks are the best ones

My Grandfather fought alongside the 77th on Okinawa. He was a Raider in the 4th Batt. He never said much about the war.

22:36 made me have a flashback. I was 16 in a car with my father (Vet of 18 years) and one of his friends (also a vet) we didn’t know where we were going. So they asked me to pull up map and I accidentally lead them in the wrong direction after I shamefully told them we went the wrong way. Their first response was to immediately impersonate a second lieutenant. That was years go and I still remember it like it was yesterday.

Hollywood has never done justice to real life heroes. To Hell And Back, the story of Audey Murphy that he played himself in only hit a few of the highlights of what he did and that was with the man playing himself in it.

When I was stationed in South Korea, we had a butter bar who led us into the mountains on our monthly road march and proceeded to get lost. When we finally got back, we were all given a 72 hr pass and he got a chewing out. Why? They had to send M.P.’s out looking for us because we were so lost. ( And tired). At least that’s what I remember.

Yeah, a lot of the "true story" style military movies are downplayed, specifically because the stuff that's worth making a movie over is usually a little too over the top to be accepted by the general public. My Grandpa was on a ship in WW2, and Korea, but he did have to make amphibious landings a time or two, and while he almost never talked about his time in service, he did tell me a few stories when I was around... 12 or so, so this is memory from over 20 years ago. Still, he would have stood by that "if they don't stink, stick 'em" statement. He was in the later waves, so he was cleanup, meaning he went around making sure there weren't survivors. He told me he saw a guy who had been shot in the head, literally could see his brain, and so he didn't bother sticking him. That guy got up, and fired at his buddy next to him, luckily he missed. But after that, he said he stuck all the bodies.

Oldest guy I went through bct with was 34 and he was a marathon running firefighter that made a hobby of climbing water towers just for fun.

This was a crazy war,especially with the Americans. I mean, we had bat bombs, a sub that sunk a train, and an Army unit that acted like Marines, that managed to sink an enemy Naval vessel with guns and artillery

To be fair to the Germans, we are viewing this with the benefit of hindsight. For the Germans, a large part of why their attack on Russia in 1941 was halted was Stalin moving a bunch of specially trained Siberian Divisions to halt the Germans outside of Moscow. If the Japanese declared war on the Soviets, Stalin would have to move those troops back to Siberia to defend against Japan. Hitler was likely assuming that we would focus our attention on Japan, the country that attacked us, instead of them first as well. Both assumptions he made ended up being false.

Even before our "involvement" our industrial might was already providing significant support to both the UK and the USSR and long before the attack on Pearl Harbor American pilots were fighting the Japanese as mercenaries in China (the Flying Tigers).

From what i read over the years it seems, Germany more specific mr H, declared war on the Usa to show solidarity to Japan, Mr H was hoping to get the trifecta ( Germany, Italy and Japan ) which he got in the end, it just didnt help them.

Also, side note, USSR isn't in any position to be kicking anyone's teeth in. Operation Barbarossa began in June 1941, they've been routed and completely defensive by the time US enters WWII in Dec 1941. UK's on it's last legs, beging completely defensive in nature. The stupid part was launching operation Barbarossa, had he not done that, UK would have been forced to sue for peace, or get invaded. Negating any form of US participation in Europe.

Time stamp 9:30 of this video. Germany didn't have a choice but to go to war with America. Not only was America supplying the Allies but Germany and Japan signed a treaty stating that if another nation declared war with either, then they had to go to war with that nation.

36:30 The biggest target for the kamikaze boats would have to have been the troop transports. The Japanese leadership wanted to bleed the Allied troops dry at Okinawa and hopefully turn US public against the war with massive casualties.

It’s definitely worth watching even if you don’t make it a reaction video. Just goes to show the impact of his videos and what he’s trying to do.

My dad was in the army for 20 years. After I saw this, I asked him if they had any nicknames for older dudes in his training unit. He couldn't remember many, but they did call one guy the cowardly lion because he wouldn't stop closing his eyes during rifle training😂.

I'm Filipino. Ive learned more about WW2 from TFE's stories about this absolute badasses than I learned from school. I'm already heavily westernized but these fuckin stories make me appreciate the US armed forces even more than I already do. No hate to my own country's armed forces, but maybe if I had learned more about them in school, then I'd appreciate them more.

Very few people truly realized just how committed and just how much America was really gonna be ble to expand though. The USSR lend lease program wasn't actually considered a really impressive feat primarily because literally everyone else was at a complete war time economy at that point, even though obviously hindsight is 20/20. There was and simply hasn't been a nation that was so able to completely switch from isolation/protectionist to imperialist so quickly before or since.

Just for clarification, Hitler instated a design share program and information share program, at the time share of information and equipment was also considered support and an act of war by the targeted party anyways. Due to this Hitler who said "Dont attack America" was forced to declare war before Germany had more justifications against them, they also were hoping Mexico would tag in as well. Russia would have had to slog the battle for WW2 out another 5 years roughly because they didn't have vehicles after Germany pushed there shit in all the way to Stalingrad. By this time several soldiers who were smart relocated machine equipment to the Russian side of the river and high command converted barns into makeshift workshops and basically into dual leighbor camps for planes and small chassis parts. America at this point offloaded enough Steel, Explosives and trucks that 40% of there production in this time-frame was American material, by the mid of the following year 80% of there Supply chain was American supplied and keep in mind we still got another year when Russia was finally on the roll and had Most of there tooling back and had managed to get production of the majority of the supplies they received for 2 years and everything went well in there side so much so that T-34 chassi design was able to improve to the point where welds were not hyper dogshit and workman quality jumped a fuck ton, the top 3 people in the Russian army at the time had nothing but compliments to the Americans for the supplies and there quality of goods. Russia indeed could have won without our aid, but there population may not have held out and it would have been a fight to "Wait for the West to win to end it", don't forget America was in two fronts on separate battle-zones and still supplying herself, allies, and helping to aid countries in rebuilding as much as she could (Even focused on repairing Japan and Germany a ton after they surrendered), and Russia was in fact not entirely at friends with the Americans in 1939 - 1940 (finish war took a toll on the ego and Stalin actually started looking at America with interest), they considered themselves self efficient till 1942 when they realized something was up and Germany was amassing at the border. Germany had maps from WW1 marking some fuel depot positions but due to missed math they drove past the fuel depot in WW2, If Germany had the fuel they probably world have taken Stalingrad entirely and had enough tank support to hold that line. Russia forced by Germany to join the Allies to receive better aid and force America and Britain to open up a Front-line and push on the West (France). Technically they didn't join the allies officially till the signing of Germany in 1945, even then they only posted threats and hate cause America and Britian displayed use-able technology unlike the false bluffs the Russians were spouting. Lot of people didn't even know that during the battle of Kursk Romania and Italy had a small piece of the line and because they used Mountain infantry in the snow they were used to horrible winter conditions, they in fact gained better terrain, and better supply systems in the snow so they actually 100% halted the advance of the Russian onslaught, they only retreated once the German lines hit there supply line as the German front-line. The Italian and Romanian troops started shitting on the Russian tanks and infantry. Its not covered except they reference Italian tanks as they are the "Yellow Devil Tanks". They dont like the fact that Italian weapons put up good work on them.

To say that the USSR and Uk would have won is a very bold statement, the UK was on the brink of surrender (like a few months away) if the US didn't help and the USSR was our only real main front at that time. So I doubt that without the US, that the UK and USSR would have won. By any means germany wasnt anywhere near as good as wheraboos want, but also not as underpowered as most expect/believe.

Why did you get so upset that Hitler (a mentally insane drug addict) declared war on us almost 60 years after we defeated them. Yes ,the Soviet Union and the UK (both of which were heavily supplied by us) would have eventually, possibly defeated them (although, with the weapon advancements that Germany was on the verge of might have brought about a different outcome). I believe that our help may very well have been the deciding factor.
