Really need Paul Harrell to clarify gun mechanics and categories. Colion just didn't quite do it, but I will try... Action: Single Shot - (load individual round before firing) Revolver - (cylinder containing rounds advances with trigger pull) Semi-automatic - (automatically loads new round after firing... one trigger pull, one round) NOT a machine gun. Full-automatic - (feeds and fires rounds while holding trigger down... will fire until trigger released or ammo is expended... Commonly referred to as a machine gun. Special background, license process. Handguns: Single Shot Revolvers - single action (must cock hammer to fire) & double action (can fire without cocking hammer) Auto-loaders - (still a semi-automatic action) NOT a machine gun/pistol Machine Pistol - Fully automatic in a handgun (ish) frame. License same as fully automatic process. Rifles: Single Shot Bolt Action - (must run bolt manually to load new round) Common for hunting or precision shooting.) Semi-auto - one trigger pull, one round fired... auto reloads new round. Can be any caliber from .22 up to .50. Includes AR platform Full-auto - Assault rifles with full auto capability. NOT AR platform. Special license required. I think that pretty much explains it.

Not only is a national gun registry a fear, but also the fact that required licensing of private sales will completely slow to a halt all sales due to the overload of paperwork. I think this is the real goal.

How many folks in the UK or the US can afford to live in such places? In the United states the Police are ONLY responsible for the safety of the public at large. Please define “brandishing”. Depending on the state, the age allowed by law to handle or own a firearm vary. So simply stating juveniles have a handgun is not unlawful. True, but the reason those seconds count that much, is that everyone has guns. Not just that it makes it so much easier for criminals to obtain them. Also that they can carry them rather easily (in a gun-free nation you don't want to put a big sign up asking cops to check you out :P). And finally, to fire them. Because criminals are a lot more keen to do so, if they suspect you may pull out a gun any moment. The idea you expressed, would predict that criminals would utterly run most of Europe. Well I suppose they do, but they don't use guns and we call them politicians so....;)

sorsocksfake in a nation of 350 million guns the very idea of trying to enforce their removal from civilian hands is utter nonsense. the only people that would turn them in or be in a position to have them taken are the exact people that you would not have concerns for owning them. in addition, even without a gun..... an 80 yo grandmother who lives alone has zero chance of protecting herself from multiple intruders in her home without a firearm. disarm her and its game over for her. how can anyone with the slightest inkling of empathy for such a person feel obliged to remove from her the only method by which she can reasonably protect herself. its absurd. then the argument is ..... remove semi automatic weapons. you really expect her to work a bolt action rifle during such an event? rack a shotgun? with a small caliber semi automatic pistol shes got a chance.... even if it only moderately improves the odds.... denying her that ability is unconscionable.

sorsocksfake, seconds count that much not just because of the existence of a firearm. people like myself have been trained and practiced in ending lives in rather short order. it doesnt take a firearm to end a life in a quick and efficient manner. cain and able managed it with the jaw bone of a donkey. in a real life and death struggle the "action" in most cases wont even take a minute. and in many cases the fatal blow(s) can be landed in seconds, while the act of dying can take significantly longer. hell its why most martial artist are taugh to run when weapons are involved because their instructors dont want their students getting overconfident and killed because they underestimated the lethality of a simple household object. an officer whos a 2-3 minute phone call, and a 10 minute drive away.... you wouldnt even be able to finish unlocking the phone if your actually engaged in a situation where the other person is both prepared and willing to inflict harm on you. the last thing you want to be doing is trying to defend yourself with one hand while your heads turned away as you attempt to fish your phone out of a pocket, unlock the screen, or call for help. heck even if you somehow get the phone dialed and get the call conected youve still managed to hamstring yourself by taking one of your arms outa the equation.

My question to them is, "what makes my 100% civilian rifle a weapon of war while the actual weapons used to cause millions of deaths in both world wars is a "hunting rifle?" It's important to ask them to define what makes one weapon "evil" and the other not. I've yet to ever hear a good answer, as it usually just highlights how little they know while somehow having very strong opinions on the matter. Not sure how one can legitimately have strong opinions about something one's completely ignorant about, other than by being brainwashed to have knee-jerk emotional reactions whenever a trigger of one's indoctrination is presented.

I do wish he’d talk about... - the second amendment is federal but gun laws are decided state by state, which causes a serious issue in places like Chicago where guns can freely travel from IN to IL. - gun show loopholes are a very serious and ongoing problem - caliber/magazine/quantity/use are specifics that we should at least discuss - if cars are a useful comparison for some people, why doesn’t everyone pass a shooting and safety test before being given a gun permit, as we do a driving test? - lastly, disguising a gun violence issue as a mental health issue (ever) is disingenuous. We have both of those, not one or the other. Thanks for keeping the conversation healthy and ongoing. As far as people being nervous about 3 guys walking into Chipotle with "big ass guns". That's only because they aren't used to it. In the 1950s 60s and even the 70s in some places, that would have been common place and nobody would bat an eye. The left wing media has divided and changed the culture where 1/3 of the people think of guns as evil or gun owners as crazy. Another 1/3 are apathetic and don't care one way or another about guns, but most of them have never seen one in person and they are still nervous about them just like people with no experience are nervous around any other piece of machinery. The last 1/3 are gun owners, half of which are fine with seeing guns everywhere and the other half are so terrified of the left taking their guns away, that they won't do anything that might draw attention because it "just gives them ammunition to take our guns!" So of course most people are nervous. If you don't want people to be nervous, you need to get them more used to seeing guns. Nobody is nervous about cars because we see them everywhere, even though more people die in car accidents than in shootings every year.

But if u did one stupid thing as a kid, maybe bcoz u had an addiction, could be total non violent crime, you would loose one of the most fundamental rights in America. This seems like a European way of thinking about guns. In sweden ur criminal records gets purged after 10 years. But if u do 1 thing, like drive too fast, it adds 10 more years. I got convicted of felony drugs 15 yrs ago. Been ok since then, but I drove with a suspended license coz I had not got it renewed, this was 2015.. so 10 more years. But there is a loophole, percussion guns made b4 1890 is not considered weapons in sweden. So I have a Remington 1858 army and a few old percussion shotguns and a st.etienne needlefire rifle as home defence. Works pretty well. U can have a remington revolver loaded 1 year and all.chambers will fire without problem. I guess u might have something similar in the us, I might even think that all percussion guns, regardless of manufacturer date does not need license. Or I might be wrong...

I'm a black liberal Republican and I'm a staunch supporter of the 2A. I know you mean otherside liberals. Here is the problem there are public and grassroots liberals. You'd be surprise, talk to some at the street level as I've done that are left and they're actually for the 2A. I've challenged many before and did Devils Advocate of well don't you think they should ban certain guns just to see what they day. Many shockingly said No. I've had left liberals tell me they don't feel you should have a cold off period either nor a purchase limit in any state. However, these version of liberals will never ever been shown on camera. I have friends that went to the March on VA for the 2A pro- gun rally on 1/20/20. Many of them told me they shockingly ran into liberals that were left, in VA, that were pro-gun and matched with AR's on their necks stating they felt Assault weapon is a BS word and weren't for gun control. I asked why weren't they interviewed? My friend said they were, just edited because they'd kill views and ratings

The one weak part of this interview, from both Dave Ruben and Colion Noir, is the part where they are arguing "States Rights" versus "Individual Liberties." Key in this argument, and left unmentioned, is the 14th amendment. Before the 14th amendment, the Bill of Rights only applies as a limit on the Federal Government. After the 14th amendment, other governments had similar limitations. Witness McDonald v Chicago. .... In effect, the 14th capped the States Rights amendment as to personal liberties.... Although, this is but a fraction of the issues created with the passing of the 14th. Otherwise, this was a very nice interview.

Noir is awesome. As usual, Rubin is picking all-stars to interview in this fantastic long format. But dammit, my play list is piling up! For the firearms "debate", make no mistake, anti-gun advocates end game is to ban all firearms. They will compromise to get their incremental bans, one step at a time. Maybe they will stop once we just have rocks and rotten tomatoes to throw, but don't get your hopes up. Then good luck getting all the guns from the criminals (which by writ you've just permanently made all of the currently legal gun owners also). So as a 2A defender, whenever you get dismissed for digging in your heels or engaging in "slippery slope" arguments about the topic, remember that anti-gun rights advocates are not debating in good faith.

You're thinking in absolutes. Rational people do recognize that the options aren't limited to "safe or horror", but that reducing the damage potential from 20 to 5, is a major improvement. Rational people by the way can also consider that taking away someone's rights if they're discovered having ADHD, may not be the best of things to do... neither moral nor effective.

Agreed Tincan, I personally think that a felon out on the streets has served their time and paid their debt and therefor should have all their rights restored. If they are still acting in criminal ways, the sentence was not correct. i believe people can make mistakes and learn from them and change. This might open society up to some risk, but without risk there is no reward. I have a similar view on "mental illness" which is much more complicated, but the major problem with the removal of rights on those grounds is for what illness and at what severity do we take rights away, and who gets to decide? Seems more dangerous to society than some people with these conditions having a shotgun under their bed.
