Beautifully and respectfully said with much wisdom and insight pastor John. Abba Father YHWH bless you and your family for all that you are doing to speak the truth revealed through Elohim's written word. ❤
Dynamite Fresh thanks for pointing out the obvious in my comment. How you missed that to be sarcasm I have no clue. Of course a prayer isn’t that which saves you, we all know this. But confession of one sin and belief in God through prayer is but an expression that God allows us to take part in. God doesn’t condemn that kind of prayer brother. Calling Mark Driscoll Heretical, you might be walking on thin ice. But I assume you won’t give your precious time to listen to his sermons in context but rather watch segments of videos of youtubers ripping him. Might as well call the apostle Peter a heretic while you’re at it. Peter’s withdrawal from eating with the Gentiles in Galatians 2 was sin, and it was not owing to a defective theology. When someone sins we don’t say,”Oh defective theology”, but rather this man is a sinner. On the subject of you, I would say you are heretical for not acting on what Gods word says in Galatians 6:1,”Restore such a one in the spirit of meekness lest you, too, be tempted”. Stop being a Pharisee and be a brother in Christ
no kidding, the stuff that came out of Mars Hill that I had access to over the internet was incredibly helpful and a real blessing. I've learned sin often isn't the end in such a situation, repentance for perpetrators and healing for those affected can bring about amazing things. All the best to all involved.
It shows great confidence to lead with the right hand when in orthodox stance. Only seen a few do it successfully over the years. Ali and Roy Jones did some textbook dabbling with this in their prime. Footwork and timing is the key. Been to 11 Churches and come to the realisation that we are all turds in the sun without Jesus grace.
I love what he says about the corporate structure overly influencing the church and what he said about sin and theology-knowing the truth but not walking in it.
I have only just found Mark Driscoll on youtube today and I found his sermon really helped me. I don't know what he has done, so will have to look it up, but it doesn't change the fact that I really found his sermon helpful.
He got 'cancelled' before it was a thing. If you investigate, make sure you investigate how the "Christians" around him treated him and how the city of Seattle treated him. It was a complete circus and though some elements of the accusations were valid the treatment of him by other christian leaders flew against biblical character. Sounds like present company was an exception.
@@TheLookingGlassAU He wasnt cancelled. He was disciplined by church elders for abusing his authority. Church discipline is commanded in scriputure. Abusive behavior disqualifies you from ministry. Pay marketing firms to exaggerate your books sales is fraud and lying. He was treated the way the Bible say he should have been treated and he has never publicly apologized, admitted guilt, or repented.
@@TheJpep2424 I know the official version of the story. But the true version is he was cancelled. And no he wasn't treated biblically. Nobody has to admit guilt publically - don't know what bible you are reading there but publically shaming someone is part of the woke movement not biblical Christianity. I'm glad he didn't repent from being a Christian. I wish 6ou would repent from requiring revenge through social shaming and gossip and back biting - those things are actual sin in the bible.
People should know that regarding the plagiarism issues and using church money to get on the NYT best-seller list, it was not entirely Mark's fault. Mark got some bad council and got screwed over several times due to the overwhelming growth of Mars Hill. Couple of things 1.) Mark unfortunately listened to the advice of a newly hired church staff member that suggested they go through a certain vendor to increase sales, it ended up being a PR nightmare that led to scandal and 2.) Mark's editors were rushed to get his books out the door and because of that, plagiarism inadvertently happened. People don't realize that the way that most modern pastors write books is through a team of editors and consultants, they don't write the whole thing themselves. Regarding his bullying behavior, it was inexcusable and Mark should not have been the senior pastor of Mars Hill. What Mark needed was someone like John Piper pastoring over him directly and leading Mars Hill, not Mark. Mark could still be preaching and leading, but shouldn't have been THE leader of that place. An adolescent leading other adolescents. The biggest issue of Mars Hill was that it grew too fast and there was no experienced leadership at the top. I have no doubt that Mark Driscoll loves Jesus and is a genuine Christian. He still is, to this day, one of the most gifted Bible teachers and preachers I've ever heard. But he was arrogant and unseasoned. He also completely butchered the Song of Solomon, as Piper pointed out in this video. What happened is a shame, but it's a lesson to all. If Mark had humbled himself earlier on and requested more experienced, godly leaders to take the reigns over him, we'd still have Mars Hill in Seattle today. Unfortunately, Mark learned the hard way that arrogant, bullying leadership tactics don't work. Regarding his decision to resign instead of going through a 6 week restoration plan and disciplinary action, if God told Mark to step down, I'm not sure anyone can say that's wrong. Only God knows the truth on that one. I sincerely hope that he has repented of his sin and I wish him the best at his new church in Scottsdale.
Joshua, you have two options. As the lead pastor of Mars Hill, either Mark Driscoll is a responsible leader who intentionally did the wrong thing OR he is an irresponsible leader who doesn't have the ability to assess what people suggest to him. Either way, he's unfit to lead.
David Robinson My opinion of Mark (which is very positive) in the Reformed community is definitely not the popular one. My perspective comes from having personal acquaintance. I can say from first hand knowledge (not random internet blogs) 1.) Mark is a great leader who almost worked himself to death, and even the godliest of men in that position would have encountered the same problems. He led a large conservative church movement in the one of the most difficult cities imaginable, and his stress sometimes caused him to act in ways he shouldn't have acted. Before people cast judgment, they should ask themselves if they would have totally kept their composure preaching in a building where they faced daily threats of violence, negative press and media, and a church body of baby Christians being saved out of the spiritually hostile city of Seattle. Mark made mistakes, but did not disqualify himself. All leaders, even ones you know, have made grave mistakes in their ministry and have fallen short from time to time. Unfortunately for Mark because of his brash and controversial style, he became a target of the media and disgruntled former church staff. If you're going to hate on Mark for his mistakes, then you have to be consistent and start criticizing other famous Reformed pastors who are not perfect. I can think of a few: R.C. Sproul Jr., who was getting drunk at parties for years while R.C. Sproul senior knew about it, but it wasn't until his DUI that he finally resigned. John Piper's public family drama and strained relationship with his sons. Martin Luther's insults. John Calvin and Servetus. Zwingli drowning the anabaptists. I could go on, but the point is, would you accuse Martin Luther of being unqualified for leadership if you applied the same standard you apply to Mark Driscoll? My answer is probably not, and many of the Reformers were great men of God who were amazing pastors despite their problems and tendency to attack people. 2.) The majority of the loudest critics of Driscoll are those who didn't read the private emails, don't know the accusers, and weren't a part of the inner circle at Mars Hill. He is not the universally reviled pugnacious pastor that the media makes him out to be. In the disciplinary review before his resignation (which Mark agreed to do), after over 1000 hours of investigation and interviews, the board of elders at Mars Hill found nothing disqualifying him from leadership and pastoring. There was no sexual sin, no stealing, every legal accusation against Mark got thrown out in court because the accusations were baseless. The publisher who accused Mark of plagiarism ended up apologizing and admitting that no, Mark did not plagiarize. 3.) Many of the former members and staff who came out against Mark were doing things far, far worse than Mark ever did. Mark Driscoll could have absolutely torched the world and destroyed his accusers with knowledge he had, but he chose not to and instead resigned quietly. Take it from me, your assessment is based on limited knowledge, along with the majority of people who bash Mark. These are private affairs that became public, but some things are still private for good reason. If people knew these things they would be much more supportive of Mark Driscoll. If anything Mark should be commended for his restraint and being quiet when he could have defended himself and his reputation. I understand that it might be odd responding to this a few months later, but it's important that people get a different perspective.
@Joshua Henderson Thank you sir! I am right there with you on this one. Driscoll remains a big influence of mine. And just as I still read psalms I will still hear Mark. Blessings.
the elephant in the room is that if John Piper/TGC/Matt Chandler/YRR agrees with your doctrine...you get a pass on your behavior outside the pulpit...that's the blunt end of things. Reformed- Check, Complementarian- Check, Evangelical- Check...Behavior- Pass.
I've seen some videos from and of mark Driscoll. 1st pray to God our Father who knows each man's heart and intentions to grant wisdom and understanding to the speaker and the hearer. 2nd pray for, repentance, forgiveness, and love where it is needed 3rd love covers a multitude of sins. 4 if repentance is needed and the one(s) in error refuse to acknowledge biblical warnings from the individual, taking 2 witnesses, then if no repentance take to the church.treat them as a tax collector but always be quick to hear, slow to anger, slow to speak.if true repentance comes then in meekness restoration.maybe not to a leadership role, but to fellowship. Let's watch out for ourselves and pray for each other lest we too are tempted.we all make errors and sin.May Almighty God continue to bless His church,His bride.God help us and God bless.
JAMES, THIS IS ALL ABOUT MARK DRISCOLL AND HIS MURDER VICTIMS, PLEASE STAY ON TOPIC OR WE WILL BE FORCED TO REMOVE YOUR COMMENTS - - - LMAO! PS - MARK RIPPED PAUL WASHER'S VOICE BOX OUT AND ATE IT, THE HEART ATTACK THING IS A ROGUE!
What did Pastor Mark do that got everyone saying such hateful things. I am so grateful for the ministry at Mars Hill. Pastor Mark spoke about things that every other pastor was scared to say and he answered so many questions that other pastors get bashful about. I don't agree with a lot of his theology, but he is a fellow brother in Christ and he should not be treated this way.
Scripture says that plenty of pastors are going to save people and go to hell themselves. You can preach the Word effectively to people and still not be right with God. Don't be fooled by how well someone presents them; make sure you check out their fruit in their personal lives.
Did Jesus yell? Did Jesus scream? Did Jesus demean people? Did Jesus step on people in order to preach the Word? Mark Driscoll did all of those things. People justify Mark Driscoll actions because he had the title of pastor where his actions were not inline with those of Jesus. "Out of our mouth overflows our heart." If Hitler preached the word of God people would like his message but say "you know he's not a perfect man, none of us are."
actually no, "all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose." Everybody else has no guarantee of that.
ALPINE - MARK IS READING HERE, TAKING NAMES, DIDN'T YOU KNOW HE IS "JACK THE RIPPER", HE'LL TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS - LMAO! LEAVE EM ALONE, ALPINE, JACKASSES WILL BRAY AND GOSSIPPERS WILL GO TO HELL.
John Piper’s response is loving towards Driscoll, but, too soft. He downplayed Driscoll’s sins to a point that the seriousness of them is overlooked, and pretty much ignored the ramifications on the congregation. There’s a wake of broken lives and ex-christians because of Driscoll’s various abuses. Mars Hill was built on him being the brand, which is what Driscoll craved. Because of his lack of humility and repentance; he did not follow through with church discipline. Instead he ran off to Arizona, leaving Mars Hill to implode, started up a new church in Arizona with the help of some big name word of faith “preachers”, all while not ever having truly seen his sin. He should not be pastoring/leading a church but he is, carrying on like before but worse because he’s doubled down with his stubborn unrepentant heart and setting up a church he’s the absolute leader. Folks, Driscoll is not preaching the gospel. He’s now in the word of faith/charismatic/NAR camp. Truly, research him and Mars Hill. Do your due diligence and be like the Bereans. Pray for Driscoll to have a real renewing of his heart and repent from his sins, but don’t take in his teachings. Plug your ears and run away.
i recently visited pastor mark’s new church in scottsdale. regretfully, it seems as though he’s still caught up in his own pride. he preached a message of the prosperity gospel, promoted his own political ideology through a foul-mouthed rant, denounced calvinism and the gospel altogether. my heart was broken for him, for all the people his previous actions had affected, and for his new congregation. praying that he wakes up once again and repents.
The Bible never, ever covered up men or women’s sins or failures. The Bible doesn’t go on about King David’s hidden flaws and failures but said his fall for what it was - adultery and murder. Paul publicly called out Peter’s wrong teaching and hypocrisy. Are we above the Bible? Are we to skate around with the truth and say well, gee he was a nice guy but he had a few problems. And hopefully his books may sell well later - when people forget what that man did to dishonour God and harm His church.
I wasn't sure whether or not you had finished seminary or something along those lines. Your knowledge about true Christianity and your clear love of our Lord amazes me! I'm a self-identified Calvinistic Southern Baptist after following the name of [Reverend] Charles Spurgeon, Senior by [Reverend] Raymond "Ray" Comfort of Living Waters Ministries. Born to General Southern Baptist parents, I got saved at seven-years-old. My parents never had us baptized, though. For me, that command was finally fulfilled, sick atop what bodily ailments I already suffer(ed) from. Maximum dose of Phenergan settled my stomach. I can't discuss Calvinism amongst family, as they shut down political/religious talks.
I appreciate this video/podcast. I attend Pastor Driscoll''s church in Scottsdale currently and love it. I have learned SO MUCH from Pastor Driscoll. I appreciate his boldness and straight forward teaching. It's what I need - give me truth, no matter how hard it is for me to hear. Please feel free to offend me. Plus he gets into history and facts that arm me to talk to others about God and the bible. I've made major changes in my life based on my learnings from many of Pastor Driscoll's (among others) bible teachings. 🙏❤️
Funny how no one here seems to talk about the elephant in the room specifically. Here's the answer in a nutshell: Mark Driscoll was vilified, ON THE SURFACE, for "unethical" or "inappropriate" use of church's fund to publish his book and to use the certain "tactics" to market and promote his message/book. THE UNDERLINING ISSUE, was that his bold and aggressive messages and strong/big personality, while attracted new followers, started to rub some members of Mars Hill's leadership team the wrong way. So they used this example to teach him a lesson on HUMILITY and to bring him down. Of course, many of them feel justified in their belief of his "wrongdoing", much the same way people view WARFARE. Some will condemn war (the peace-loving bunch), and some will see war as necessary. Guess which camp Mark Driscoll is in? ALL IS FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR, haven't you heard? Religions, for thousand of years, had always resembled warfare: it's about territory, allegiance and power. Failure to recognize this is dumb. Mark is not dumb. He used his book (among many other medias) to reach the masses. HE FOUNDED THE CHURCH with his bold messages and wanted to expand his influence, his beliefs and what he felt is a better way of life, and better society. And he felt the end justifies the means. I don't blame him.
Saul Espino sorry, I found no evidence of such. Perhaps you need to research it. And, I hired a ghost writer before even when my own writing get published so you may call me a “plagiarist” too
We all have sinned and fell short of the glory to God. The problem is, that God is holy and doesn’t live with sin. So we all deserve to go to hell, but Jesus paid the price so you don’t have to. All you have to do is confess Jesus as your savior and repent (turn from all sin) and you’ll be forgiven and on the way to heaven…
Solomon Umlah He was spiritually abusing and bullying members and leaders in his church. I still don't know if he's ever actually apologized, but rather passed the buck, resigned for a few weeks, and came back with a new ministry.
ALPINE MAXIMELIUS - YOU GOT IT RIGHT BRO! I AGREE WITH YOU, A BUNCH OF POLECAT CORRECT FOLKS WANTED SOMETHING FOR NOTHING, MAYBE THEY'LL GET HILLARY DAMNROTTEN CLINTON TO PLASTURE THEIR CLURNCH NOW!
Mark Driscoll is The best Pastor I have ever met and heard. I go to his church in Scottsdale, AZ! He speaks the Truth!! We are living in the end times and it is time to hear the truth and the Bible taught verse by verse. I was a Catholic most of my life and never learned a thing! I am now a born again christian!
Most of your comments are completely hate filled garbage from hell itself. But you're so much better than mark or John, you're so holy, your hearts are so pure, you are sinless I forget. You have begun to reign I see...
Catfish Heaven. It's like the bleeding heart liberals that project their own sin on to others as to draw attention away from their own satanic hearts. No forgiveness or understanding from the oppressors. No respect or mercy for the person who was obviously bringing more people to Christ than anyone else at the time. What he did was miraculous. Suffering brings character, so Mark will and is stronger for this, valuable lessons learned. Besides he never needed all the money and big buildings.
The Lord chastens those whom are His. Hopefully mark repented from a godly sorrow and the Lord restores him. We all have so much sin in us and most is unrecognized. We can't judge a mans heart because we can't even know our own. We leave that up to the Lord. We can judge fruits but we must be careful not to condemn the person but the fruits. Marks fruit was condemnable but is he? That's not for us to know. We also can't judge a few mistakes and say a person is unsaved. We would have to know a persons life. Where they were and where they are now. If that were the case we all would be condemned because we all sin daily. We must remember that we will not be perfected until Jesus returns. Until then we are practicing righteousness because we have not perfected it. A good tree does not produce bad fruit. Most have misinterpreted this. It means that even though a saved/good tree sins, they are forgiven through repentance and faith. It does not mean the never sin. If they never produced any bad fruit then what is the need for God to prune us? You only prune the bad. We as good trees through Christ Jesus still produce bad fruit, but it is pruned. Meaning God grants us repentance and forgiveness and cast it away to make room for the good fruit the Holy Spirit will produce. The bad fruit comes from our efforts, good fruit comes from God alone which he has prepared in advance for us to do.
Lets get a teddy as Pastor. It will never let us down and we will never be disappointed for the so called letting us down. As an Indian I found Americans consumeristic. You ppl will have better hope if you say, he is human and he is one of us and we would be same if we are in his shoes.
Thanks you for this response. Unfortunately in Marks new church he has completely rejected a Biblical model of elders and has taken full and total control like a dictator. Praying that you can still have a positive influence on him in his ministry.
HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST DOING THE RIGHT THING ON YOOTTUBE - THESE BASTARDS ARE HAVING TOOOOOOO MUCH FUN GOSSIPING ABOUT MARK - I THINK I SHALL BAN YOU UNTIL YOU STOP WITH THE GOOD ADVICE! LMAO! :^)
I think there are a few reasons but the main one is his view of catholicism. He doesn't take a hard stance against the false gospel of Rome. He seems to believe catholicism is a part of Christianity, and not a false religion whose members need to be evangelized. He has referred to the pope as "our pope" and said that the pope is "doing everything right". That's a big reason most reformed people distance themselves from Rick, because he will not distance himself from Rome. Besides that, he just has a weak gospel and a shallow theology.
Jimmy B. You may change your mind about Warren if you do more research. I believe he's sneaky.. watch this u can skip to the part on Warren but the whole thing, I believe, is very informative. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-R9y9ly6YvCw.html
Hi Jimmy. Best do your own research to convince yourself. I first heard of Rick via the Purpose Driven books. As a new christian, I had great misgivings about it. Firstly, I saw the church/individual as meant to be Spirit driven (Jesus was driven by the Spirit into the wilderness), rather than purpose (i.e its about ME ME ME!) Yes, we do have a purpose, but its not about ourselves or what the church does, primarily. I think Rick Warren misquotes scripture numerous times in his 'Purpose Driven' books. It is very easy for him to use scripture to say what he wants it to and out of context as well. Repentance is not key to his view of salvation. His PEACE plan omits the Gospel, which is tragic and evidence of Ricks' own false gospel and highly likely false salvation. If you have the stomach (its a hard read) get yourself a copy of the book Faith Undone by Roger Oakland. Rick is definitely part of the Emergent Church Movement, which is one part of the great apostasy happening right now. Watch this for a good background on Purpose Driven: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jJkVvFfZpbQ.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_Uz1Fh8i3ok.html God bless
Jimmy B., I agree. I may not be into all of his ways of preaching but overall I've never found anything wrong with the man from a gospel doctrine perspective. Some people are just wary of some preaching styles I think but as you pointed out, its problematic for Christians to be against a brother or sister who isnt really off course.
Shame on "Christians" that attempt to cut God off at the knees by criticizing men just as flawed as anyone else. Mark reaches souls through his rough, abrasive and unconventional approach. Who are we to prevent God from using any of the worst of us, to further his kingdom and glory?
