In this video, we weld on dock plate bumper that the customer tried to weld on themselves, and it turned out.....less than stellar due to not having the right equipment. We also repair some cracked welds on the inside portion of the dock plate, as well as adding some stitch welds to help reinforce the dock plate. Hope you guys enjoy! Thanks for watching!

you're actually a decent welder running decent equipment-not many RU-vidr's are!

Hey man great video. I have to agree you do things right especially when you ran that second stringer over that weld you didn’t like. It’s nice when you see someone else take pride in the work. Curious how much you charged for that work?

You gotta love it. That’s why I always charge a 2 hour minimum for jobs like this. If it was a longer drive, I would add another hour for travel, but this one was relatively close to my house. It will sure make it easier when that dang welding trailer is done though! Thanks for watching!

Honestly sometimes you just gotta respect the customer, they're paying after all. Some folks are cool with it or even supportive (where I work it can be challenging to film without catching something under an NDA, but if a RU-vidr was doing work for me I'd do my best to work with them to figure it out), and others just don't want the hassle or attention.
@Freedomfabrication777
@Freedomfabrication777 2 месяца назад
@@wileecoyoti yeah, I’ve found that as long as you are up front and tell them what you are doing, most people are really supportive. There are the occasional people who don’t want logos or anything in the video, and that’s fine, I just do my best to edit it out. Thanks for watching!

How long did it take you to go full time? Been doing it part time for the last 2.5 years while working a night job. And can’t quite get to that full time mark.
@Freedomfabrication777
@Freedomfabrication777 6 месяцев назад
Believe it or not, I still work a full time job, and do the fab thing on the side. I don’t really know if I will ever go full time. I like my full time job. It has great retirement, and benefits. It allows me to provide for my family. And I feel like if I went full time It would take my stress to the next level. I’m not sure if I would enjoy it like I do now, if I had that level of stress. I feel like things are different when a wife and 4 kids are depending on you to provide, and it all falls on the success of your business. To be honest, I don’t really know if I have enough solid clients at this point to go full time, even if I wanted to. That was a really long response to your question, sorry, but I just wanted to help you understand my full situation, and why I feel the way I do about it.
@Froggies505
@Froggies505 6 месяцев назад
@@Freedomfabrication777 no I appreciate it. And understand completely. My job is the opposite. Very basic. Far cry from the huge industry I fell in love with welding. Just a shitty job shop with zero benefits and incentives. I love the repair work I do and can’t stand making inch stitch welds all night every night at my “9-5”. I completely understand your point though. I’m a younger single man. No family. I can work the 100 hour work weeks with no regrets when I’m busy.

Why don't you use an air supply for your breathing while you are welding
@Freedomfabrication777
@Freedomfabrication777 6 месяцев назад
There are situations where that is needed. In confined spaces, for example. This was definitely not one of those situations. It was outside, and when I was inside the building, the door was open with adequate ventilation. I think the important thing is to be smart. If ventilation is limited, you have to modify the conditions to make it safe to work. Not a bad question, just giving you an honest answer. Thanks for watching!

@@Freedomfabrication777 I bought a 5'x10' with a single 3500 lb axle. If you're going to put a lot of stuff on the trailer with the welding machine, you might want a larger axle/spring or a 2 axle trailer. I have a Miller Bobcat, 2 oxygen bottles, 2 acetylene bottles, a 75/25 bottle, air compressor and several toolboxes. With all that on there, the frame of the trailer is almost setting on the axle. I mainly use mine on the farm, so i don't go far with it. If I had it to do again, I'd go with a little heavier duty setup. I can send pics if you'd like see my setup.

@@Freedomfabrication777 glad you asked,cheaper and no lease,readily available even on weekends and holidays, safer gauge pressure can be anything, acetylene can be sensitive over 15 # and can detonate at 30#,propane uses 2 piece tips which are easier to clean,burns steel just as thick. Downsides ,supposed to use grade T hose , can't gas weld but who does anymore,can't use pressure gauge to tell tank contenrs,need gague like you can get for your gas grill. Need propane tips . One more benefit is cuts cleaner with no hard edges.
