A good friend had ovarian cancer. Surgeon got it all, but advised chemo. She declined. 2 1/2 yrs later it was back…everywhere. The microscopic cancer cells had been dispersed throughout her abdominal cavity and her declining post-op chemo meant they were free to start growing again anywhere they had landed. She ended up doing a very intense round of chemo and so far is in remission again. Cancer is the worst. It took my dad. I wish Katherine the best in her fight against the disease.

@@nicolad8822 What a disgusting comment. You do not know this person's friend, whether they got a second opinion, the prognosis, what the side effects would be, efficacy of chemo etc. You've read a snippet of a personal anecdote, don't be so presumptuous.
@MollyHJohns

My late aunt fought twice, having been on chemo twice as well. But the second time the cancer came with vengeance and it also spread everywhere quickly. I was with my mom and their youngest sister when she exhaled her last breath on the hospital bed. I saw her turn to her side with great effort, and just let go. Right then and there I was actually relieved for her and for my mom and the youngest aunt; she and them are now free of pain. But what's a bit ironic is how a family member of the opposite patient being more sad and cried harder than us when he learned she just passed away that very moment. Takes a very kind and empathetic soul to share and minimise the grief. There is no issue in a patient not wanting to undergo chemo or otherwise. My mom and the youngest aunt advocated against it but my deceased aunt just went with it straight away, as it was her own conscious choice. It worked albeit it took a toll on her twice, and the second time the cancer won anyway. Some people survived, some don't using their own way to fight the cancer. It's life.
@stephgreen3070
@stephgreen3070 3 месяца назад
@@MollyHJohns Agreed. It’s not our place to choose for them what they want to do. To be a good friend or family member you just support them in whatever they decide is best for them. I’m sorry you lost your aunt. It is very difficult to watch someone you love fight so hard and eventually lose to cancer. I don’t wish it on my worst enemy. All my best to you and your family.

I wish the horrible gossip rags would see this and be persuaded to quit speculating and leave them alone. (A) She has a right to privacy even if her husband is the future king, (B) Their children don't need to be kept in a state of anxiety because a school mate's family read some nonsense and they shared it at school. This is the mother of three young children who is trying to keep things status quo at home all while going through the treatments. I'm American and think the press's behavior towards her is abominable. Reminds me of their treatment of Diana, poor William and Harry.

@@A---ti3zz - I think everyone has a right to keep their health issues private. But if you are in a government, public servant sort of role, private - yes, a secret - no. There's a difference. If you have a contingency plan in place so that your absence does not hold up work, then announce that due to health issues, time off will be necessary but that everything will still be taken care of and overseen by you or your staff. The public doesn't need to know what organs are affected or whether you had to provide a stool sample last week. Business as usual will continue. As updates are needed, they will be provided. It makes me think of my Mom. She went in for surgery because of irregular bleeding. They found stage 4 Appendiceal cancer that was in and around eight organs and wrapped around the superior vena cava. It went from a not so big surgery to them debunking the tumors and sewing her up. If they did anything else, she’d have died on the table. She lived three more years. She’s been gone for three. It feels like life kind of stopped in the hospital hallway and this has just been some dream since then. It’s STILL not fully real for me. If you think something is wrong… push, and I mean really really push, for answers. Delaying because you don’t want to “be a problem” can have really horrific consequences.

I've recently had a unilateral orchiectomy. My Urologist initially thought of my mass as merely just an infection (because all the cancer markers test indicated no cancer) which went on for more than a yr. Ive taken a few antibiotics and the mass never went away. He finally agreed to a surgery. The follow up pathology test on the removed tissue confirmed germ cancer . I was then asked to consult with a med oncologist for potentially doing a chemo (I hate the idea of chemo) but your advice makes sense to me now Thanks doc

While I agree completely. The British public funds the royals. Unfortunately there is a piece of her that has to share a piece of her life with the public. They know it would erode the trust the public has for them and would be much worse. Since she came out with it literally the public shut up. It’s easy from America or elsewhere to understand her privacy because my tax dollars do not fund the royals. It’s a double edged sword and I’m sure it sucks for her. I hope moving forward they will give her that privacy.

I thought that was what she meant! I have a family member whose small tumor was found and removed very early, and she has also had a round of preventative chemo. It's a better idea than how my grandpa was treated for early stage cancer in the 1980s-back then, they would just cut it out and pray it didn't come back. Grandpa was lucky, and it didn't, but other people weren't so lucky.

2 months ago, they found abnormal, aka mutated cells in my stomach from a biopsy. They said it takes 3 to 5 years to possibly turn into stomach cancer. Sssoooo they won't do anything. I don't even know if there is anything that they can do since it's precancerous to stave off tumor formation from the start. 😢 so I've read about as much as I can regarding nutrition and starving cancer by starving its blood supply thru eating the right things. In the U.S. medicine isn't known for being proactive, let's face it, big corporations don't make money if they try to keep you healthy when these things are caught early. Sssoooo I've done the best I can, for myself. If all I can do is try to keep it from happening thru a better diet, so be it. 😊

I was told for months that I probably didn’t have cancer by a surgeon. My lumpectomy in one part then determined that it was cancer. I relied on all of his statements, turned up for the lumpectomy results on the bus, alone, to be told that it was cancer. Then he said ‘well, you have a choice, radiotherapy or mastectomy and if you want to be here every 5 minutes then it’s radiotherapy then walked out leaving me with the nurse. I chose mastectomy because it meant two things, it would be chopped out and my surgeon would change. I got a much nicer surgeon after that. 6 years later and I’m only just beginning to mentally recover. However, I say that I’m lucky because I’m alive. If she was told it was unlikely to be cancer then they relied on that advice.

The doctors didn't explain the situation to her at all, just told her she had to get chemo and didn't listen to her reservations, so I completely understand her decision in the context. She has probably had scans, but also blood tests can help reveal if something is likely acting up somewhere else in the body. I think in this case they thought they probably got it all but wanted to make sure any stray cells weren't missed. I had bowel cancer, and in my case I did not get chemo after surgery but they did also remove some lymph nodes close to the tumour just in case. I had blood tests and scans for 6 years afterward (would have been five but the pandemic got in the way). I've been cancer-free for 9 years so it was probably the right call.

In 2001, my mom had a complete hysterectomy and she had chemotherapy for a year and a half because the type of tumor that she had left off microscopic sells! With the Ca-125 blood test after surgery that she got, show that her markers were 200 and something but before the surgery her markers were in the thousands for Cancer! Hence I never heard of preventive chemotherapy just chemotherapy to take care of those microscopic sells but sometimes can be measured inverse blood test like a Ca-125 that my Mom had!!!

Rushing to that negative conclusion belies an unfounded belief in invulnerability imo.

My dad had a rare appendix tumour cancer and got some kind of heated chemo liquid in the abdomen after surgery before they closed him up. Does that also count as adjuvant chemo and just as effective as intravenous chemo?

My dad had lukemia the doctor stopped all my dad's heart meds from a heart attack he had 10yrs earlier so they could give him chemotherapy,he had 2 massive strokes and was in a total vegative state never regained consciousness, but the doc wanted to carry on with chemo, we said no and 2 weeks later he died, later found out that he wouldn't have survived cancer as it was terminal it would have just prolonged his life a few month, if we had been told that we wouldn't have agreed to chemo and brought him home to die, a few months later my sister got cervical cancer and refused treatment she died 3 months later, then my mum got kidney cancer, she's still with Is thank God, I go to hosi next week for tests for suspected endometrial cancer, fingers crossed it's not, it's a horrable illness and having watched 3 of my family members with it I know what's coming

If the “major surgery” needs doing anyway why biopsy?

I assumed it was ovarian cancer due to my brief journey. I was told I needed an abdominal surgery to remove the ovary since no in-body biopsy was possible. It was cancer-free.

The hormone blocker is brutal. (Me old 77 ) side effects ruined my life. Very rough ,now stopped all treatment as can’t see point of side effects added to aging. Don’t think recovery is possible. But at least I am not a drag on the NHS.

Sadly none of this was done during my grandmother's diagnosis of lung cancer . In India diagnosis of such disease is technically death and that too when we consulted topmost tata medical known for cancer research in India. No support nothing was given .

The only surgery for a woman to hide is getting her tubes tied. Any disease can strike anyone. Princess Katherine's health discussions may make people think about their own symptoms and to seek advice, perhaps even saving lives. An announcement of surgery and tests would have made more sense. Openness (updates for her people) would have gained sympathy and respect for family time. There would then be no reason for speculation. I wish her the best for her recovery.

Is it possible for cancer to appear somewhere else but it is the cause of a problem on a different location?
@SomeoneBeginingWithI
@SomeoneBeginingWithI 3 месяца назад
It is common for cancers to spread from one location to another, so it can cause problems in a location far away from where it started because there are now tumours in multiple locations.

Her name is Catherine. She has stated she no longer wants to be called Kate, yet all the media looking to pounce and profit by reporting on her addressing of her diagnosis can’t be bothered to call the poor sick woman by her name. I’m not even British but even I have the decency to refer to this poor young mother by the name she has asked to be called. I wish people would respect her wishes especially when discussing something as sensitive as her (should be private) medical information. Not to call just you out doc, you seem like a decent guy but I’m sick of seeing this everywhere. Her name is Catherine.
