Vivitrol absolutely saved me and my life from alcoholism. I was drinking a liter of straight rum every single night. I had the actual desire to quit drinking- so this medication absolutely helped.
@@elvinluccon3394 it absolutely blunts the “pleasurable” effects of alcohol to the point you’re not getting the affect you normally would get. It also curbed cravings. I quit drinking almost 8 years ago and I would say that vivitrol was very helpful (as long as you are 100% committed to quitting drinking). Good luck 👍🏻
@@elvinluccon3394 also, I didn’t drink on it- but from what I hear you may feel some of the alcohol effects but very toned down when on vivitrol. The medication dulls the pleasure response
As an alcoholic, I've been fighting Naltrexone for a week. Still drinking but damn, it makes alcohol tastes like crap and I give up mentally and physically after 2 drinks. Shit actually works, I'm happy it'll help me quite.
@@majakid2545 So here's what you do, drink something else that's cheap that you don't like. I use to down a bottle and half of red wine a day/night. Switched to vodka. Tastes like shit to me but I still get a buzz if desperate.
@@majakid2545 HA! I found myself still drinking cheap champaigne because ...YUM! I just got use to that shitty, tart taste LOL! I've been on naltrexone for a week and it honestly has helped ...just by maybe a drink a day. I'm down from 5 drinks to 4 drinks. I suspect it'll get better.
I tried viviltrol years ago. Counselors and other providers warned me I had to follow a plan and that vivitrol on its own could not fix my craving for alcohol. Sadly, I relapsed. Getting help is not always easy if you have no health insurance or you're not court ordered. Believe me, I've tried. Another thing is that after covid, providers got used to doing group meetings via Zoom. Even when covid was done and for, they still insisted on doing therapy via line. I kinda miss meeting folks face to face
I can’t have caffeine because I have dangerously high blood pressure by genetics. But I love coffee. So I drink it black. I’ve used naltrexone before and it helped so much with my alcohol cravings. I even found it reduced my desire for nicotine as well. I’m so glad I have a doctor finally that can help me get on it. Starting it in the morning, I tried it before and it was great! I’m so excited to have it now after 2 years of trying to get it.
🎉💯 I noticed my cravings for processed foods with refined sugar as well as caffeine decreased while on Vivitrol. The cravings were there; however, I was less impulsive and would take time to weigh the pros and cons of what I'd consume.
My boyfriend just started using it. He thought he was able to ward off the drinking but at the end of the first month, the cravings came back. Once he got his second shot all those cravings went away again. It's crazy how much it works.
@@macattack9041 Vivitrol is a shot not a pill. They are same medicine, but Vivitrol (shot) lasts a month, so you don't have to take pills daily. You said you had bottles of the shit in your draw. Vivitrol is administered by a medical professional so you can't have it at home. The way you talked about made me believe that you've just done pill form. Pill form doesn't always work for people when the shot does. I'm sorry I assumed.
So after reading the comments i realize i am not an alcoholic 😅 dam i drink a tall can like a 3 to 5 days a week just to unwind from my day it hasn't increased or decreased...any tips?
I just started Naltrexone today. I was sober for over a year when I was taking antabuse. But the effectiveness of antabuse wore off. Trying this now. I hope it works
Great question. For prescriptions for pain, it's best to consult with you physician or doctor about what specifically you should be prescribe for your particular pain.
I totally drink caffe for the taste, and, btw, it gives me same kind of buzz as nice, juicy steak. As far as not getting drunk, wouldn’t I just drink more?
Hiya. What happens if I stop taking naltrexone and drinking moderately after 6 months? Does the craving go away forever, or do I just go back as before?
So this works on the mu receptors? Same as naloxone? My question about this is, aren’t their natural endorphins (not sure if that’s the right name for them) that we need to feel happiness which would also be getting blocked? The mu receptors don’t just sit constantly unoccupied right? I would think that blocking the receptors responsible for pleasure would put one into a depressive state. I am not an expert here by any means and would appreciate an answer from someone who is.
I'm no expert either but what you're referring to are endogenous opiates ei Endorphins... I too wonder if it blocks endorphins. Natural pain killers...I just know these shots are painful!
hmm so it makes you not feel the high? Wouldn’t that be a recipe for an OD? I gotta take this for opioids, and I rlly don’t wanna take them cuz I have no intention of getting sober. I’m 17 I haven’t been using for that long nd I rlly need the opioids cuz I got crippling depression.
Vivitrol has been absolutely instrumental in my recovery from heroin. Just be cautious and aware that many providers of the shot will not provide you with a warning band or similar warning for medical professionals in case of an emergency. It's providers laziness as Vivitrol will provide them to them.
@@jmr6117 so you are certain about that? A friend of mine who happens to be a psychotherapist however that is beside the point, had a shoplifting addiction for many years. He feared he would lose his license and he couldn’t stop tried everything went on the this drug and that desire just lifted. It’s been two years now he’s been taking naltrexone and no desire to act out. Where do you get your information from?
@@insightandintuition276 please this it's not for that ,where You get that from ? This was make for alcohol but they find out it work on people who use opioids not for syco people or people who like shoplift lol..tell your friend to stop shoplifting lol..thats the crazy and funny comments i ever read about a person who need vivitrol cus he's a thief lol....
Naltrexone is mainly used to help treat alcohol use disorder (AUD) and opioid use disorder (OUD). Most likely, after talking with a mental health professional, another medication would be used for other behavioral addictions/disorders.
@@SandstoneCare yeap but not for shoplifting ( thief ) lol..how You going to get this medication to a person who have a problem of shoplifting ,maybe she don't know her friend still stuffs cus he have a opioids problems and she don't know. He don't want to tell her the real problem and she think or he tell her it's because the shoplifting problem lol.
If you didn't use The Sinclair Method that would explain the pill not working. TSM is all over RU-vid. The idea is that over a period of months, you will have more and more alcohol-free days with no cravings ... until one day, they are all alcohol-free days, and the cravings are gone and the medication is no longer needed (unless you decide to drink). The brain eventually loses interest in alcohol. This goal is technically called Pharmacological Extinction. Most good doctors will prescribe Naltrexone today (however they may ask you to stay abstinent because they are unaware of this research and method). TSM is done from the privacy of your own home and can be completed in 4-12 months. TSM can also be used along with AA, Smart Recovery or any talk therapy group.
So basically I’m understanding that if you do relapse on naltrexone, it makes the alcohol taste more awful, and blocks out actually getting intoxicated???
It's different for everyone. It helped me with cravings, didn't make alcohol taste bad and I still got buzzed. I had the implant. the pills didn't do anything at all.
@@mjp96 That's amazing! Beautiful :) I wish more people knew about it. I spread the word as much as I can and honestly, 99% of people don't seem very interested. Even if they care deeply about someone with a bad problem. It's bizarre! And it sucks. Anyways I'm glad it helps ya take it easy when you want or need it to :)
