@@aCloudspovcheckups unfortunately aren’t really a thing here (unless you want to pay fully out of pocket and find a gp willing to humour you). You see a doctor when you are actively sick, that’s it Sincerely, someone who also has trouble keeping track of which moles were always there and whether or not there are new ones 😅
@@aCloudspov You have to be pretty wealthy for that to be an option, most doctors are just there to write you prescriptions they don't care about actually checking your health. Insurance doesn't pay for that.
I wish there were more doctors who would be ok to do check of these. I have my body full of skin weird stuff, but when I want a doctor to check it, they always asked me which ones concerns me. I am not a doctor I don't know which ones should concern me.
If you're seeing a dermatologist then they should be looking over as much of your body as you allow them. We're covered in skin, their whole job is working with skin. Tell them you don't even know what to look for, so you're concerned about all of it. Show them every mark on your body, and just keep an eye out for anything that changes down the line after that. If you don't think they're checking well enough, get a second opinion. That being said, I know that's easier said than done, finding a dermatologist within network for insurance can be rough
@@teenat7044 yeah as someone with chronically restless skin; where I'm from a full body check is 900-1800 bucks, or 50 per mole, not covered by insurance and with a wait list of 6 months. 50% of the time they tell you to 'keep tabs on it and come back later'. At this point if the lord takes me, so be it 😂
Maybe this helps, there are medical photographers (I think it’s a machine now) where you do a body scan of the skin. A program in the computer will point out weird spots or changes since the last photos. And the dermatologist will then look and treat you afterwards. I’m ginger and have adhd, there is no way I could track my spots🥲
Atleast I am not having this issue. I have a skin tag that will never go away on its own (it's been 2 years). So all I need to do is see a doctor and tell them how much I hate this little piece of skin sooo much.
Before people get very anxious remember this is is merely a chance and if you're scared about similar spots on your skin it's most likely acne scars, bug bite scars or you ain't treating your spots properly. I have few on my face and none are cancerous.
This is kinda freaking me out. Yesterday I asked a family member about their skin cancer, I’ve been looking it up lots also. I have a couple spots that are odd. One I thought was eczema but creams don’t help. The other I thought was some big bite I reacted to but it’s been a couple months and it’s not gone. I already decided to call the doctor on Monday.
1. See a doc 2. There is a thing called dermatofibroma that often stays behind when a bugbite doesn't heal correctly. Don't worry to much since white skin cancer is relatively rare amongst young people. So see 1. And breath to calm your nerves
Going in a week or so, will update when I have results. I am looking forward to knowing either it’s something we need to deal with, or it’s just some angry skin that needs more lotion lol
Very good advice. My young daughter noticed a small spot that wasn’t healing. Fortunately, she was diligent and after a doctor appointment she ended up needing a major skin removal and plastic surgery. Don’t wait!
Could be... I THINK it's called Rosacea? (That's my phone's autocorrect spelling) It's (if I'm remembering correctly) largely benign, although sometimes itchy or painful mottling of the skin. Never hurts to check with a doctor. I had a mole show up on my leg one day, thought it was a pimple I'd popped, because it had a tiny scab on it. But it didn't go away after the scab healed. I was SURE it was skin cancer, dermatologist was like "nope. You're good." Felt so anticlimactic XD but... *Shrug*
It's better to have people scared of a cancer than it is to have them believing that it isn't an issue, as every day can make all the difference in some cases
@@RandomBusNerd Judging by your comment, I'm guessing you don't work in healthcare or you don't have any knowledge about BCC's.. Furthermore, where did I say that I would have them believe it is not an issue? 'Every day' as you put, i.e. a day here and there, really doesn't make much difference in cancer outcomes. In the UK, GP's (family doctors) refer suspected cancer patients on what is called a 2 week wait (2ww) pathway i.e. a specialist should see the patient within 2 weeks at the latest. However unless a BCC is in a delicate area, namely eyelid, nose and lips then it does not meet the 2ww criteria and can be seen routinely by the dermatology team. It is pretty much the only cancer that does not meet the 2ww pathway (unless it is in one of those sensitive areas or there is rare particular concern). However, if patients come to their GP demanding an urgent referral when one is not warranted then it can damage the trust in the doctor-patient relationship when the GP tries to talk them down and does not refer or if they do refer (even though it is not warranted) then that patient is taking an appointment away fro somebody who does need to be seen urgently for a potentially aggressive cancer and the system can get easily clogged. Death from a BCC is exceptionally rare and usually due to specific circumstance i.e. a person has ignored a BCC for several years to decades. I have merely advised patients should go see their GP/family doctor and not necessarily go see a Dermatologist straight away. I like Dr Karan and feel he has done some good work highlighting health issues and trust him more than a lot of health influencers out there. But his advice on this occasion is problematic. Having needlessly worried patients is not helpful as it can really cause unreasonable expectations. Having well educated patients on health matters is far better.
@@artspoonerI've had a pimple like spot like this on my nose bridge near my eye for years now, is it really this serious cause I feel like I would've noticed something by now
@@kathaai You should get any non-healing lesion (spot) checked out. But just because it is non-healing does not mean it is something serious but there is always the chance it could be something sinister. Go see your doctor who will either be able to reassure you or refer you to ensure it isn't something to worry about. Hope it all works out.
Oh no! I have one exactly like the first one and I thought it was a pimple so I couldn't resist and tried to remove it, but ended up hurting my face. It became red and it hurt and I regretted trying to remove it. And now this video popped up in my face. I will wait two days or so for the redness to go away and if it didn't go away I will see a dermatologist for sure.
Good luck with seeing a dermatologist in the UK... Despite tens of requests, none of our GP's has ever referred my partner to a dermatology consultant.
Exactly. My GP told me I've wasted his time when I went to get some moles checked and gave me a lecture on how to spot a melanoma. How about all these mentioned in this video? I don't think all GPs are trained to spot them. That should be checked by a dermatologist, but it really is impossible to see one in UK
@@ladybird-84 That's my biggest issue. I have sooo many autoimmune disorders so 99% of the things I go to the doctor for end up not being an actual problem. Unless my skin is completely covered, pus filled, and swollen, or I have a fever over 104, any issue is 9.9/10 times my AI disorders. Thanks body.
FYI, it can also happen on your nails in the form of a kind of bruise or line. I’ve had an unchanging light brown line for years and I got it looked at by a derm to confirm it’s normal pigmentation, not cancerous. It was definitely one that she was concerned about If you are covered and can afford it, do an all over general medical checkup once a year and ask the doctor, NP, etc. to do a full visual check. They can at least catch things you might not be easily able to see (eg. small spots on your back) and refer you to a derm, hopefully giving it some urgency
Sorry but this is completely unactionable - how am i supposed to know when to go to a dermatologist? You might say every time I notice something unusual - but all these spots actually do look usual and going to the doctor for every one of them is prohibitively expensive
@@RandomSwiftie13 I'm from Finland and you ain't gonna get to a specialist for just a checkup, you can barely get to a gp in nonurgent matters. So you going to pay private because insurance doesn't cover checkups, or barely anything to begin witn nowadays. So that'll be 200-400 €/hr.

I had a weird pink spot on my arm, it turned out to be just be fungal infection and went away after I started to use a fungal cream that was prescribed to me regularly. Though I will say it did take a while to completely disappear but I was seeing results.
I worked in dermatology. I was also on state insurance. You couldn’t pay out of pocket if you’re on state. My own job wouldn’t take me as a patient 😂 Most dermatologists are booked out 6-8 months, too. That’s too long for rapid growing cancer. Also here’s a price breakdown from my old dermatology job: New Patient w/ Full Body Scan: $300 Established patient annual full body scan: $185 Follow ups: $150 Biopsies were about $30 per punch, but $70 for lab testing and results. Excisions/lesions were also around $200-$300+ So you could go in as a new patient expecting to pay $300, but if they need to do one or a few biopsies, it adds up quick.
I had a couple pimples that never went away, so I finally went to the dermatologist, fearing it might be cancerous. Thankfully, it was just a spider-angioma that presented in an abnormal way. It’s always a good idea to get it checked out anyways.

sometimes it can be mistaken as a mosquito bite. I had a mark on my shoulder and it hurt and it looked to me like a mosquito bite. but it never itched and I didn't feel it but whenever I would touch it or move to where the skin would be tighter it would hurt. and I ignored it but after 3 days went to a doctor and they told me it was a mosquito bite. later on turns out it wasn't and I guess I got lucky it didn't get worse in that time that it took any doctor to listen to me edit: it looked very much like the picture you showed after the brown melanoma
Yeah I remember when my dad first went to a dermatologist. He’s albino, so he can get skin cancer and damage from the sun really easily, and good lord did he can a lot. Pretty much all the varieties that you see here. He treated it with this chemical that kills the skin cells that it touches, so he definitely looked worse before he looked better, as all of it turned to black, scabby spots. But when the scabs came off he was cancer free. Noting that he obviously didn’t treat it all at the same time, and the cancer was benign. It took maybe a year in total? Of going section by section. He did his face last, and covered the spots with bandaids cus they did NOT look pretty.

I have many of those things like pimples, I went to a dermatologist for a check on all my moles and skin spots, and he told me I shouldn't worry too much as all of the things that looked worrying were probably just going to stay there my whole life without giving issues. Instead, he was concerned about one single small mole that is particularly dark. In general, he told me to stay calm as long as my moles weren't changing their shape or color.
I'm like 80% sure I've had this but mistook it for a pimple and squeezed it until the skin broke and then picked at it for weeks before finally letting it heal.
Freckles, moles, cherry angiomas, etc. I have them all. I probably wouldn’t notice anything new on my skin. There are hundreds of spots on my skin. Maybe thousands.
That's what I came to say. That looks like a really tiny BCC. My grandma had it in her lower lashline, I took one look at it and she underwent blepharoplasty and the biopsy turned to be bcc with central depigmented area and surrounding melanocyte rich cells. I am greatful that I caught it even before her ophthalmologist and basically forced the procedure.
In the past month I've had excisions for Basel cell carcinoma, melanoma, and an unknown chest tumor (waiting for results still). And have had 5 other shave biopsies... Wear sunscreen and don't put off going to a dermatologist 😅
be careful with telling people to “wear sunscreen”!!! there are sooo many harmful ingredients in drug store sunscreens. most of them cancer causing, and when in contact with the sun, they just bake into the skin:( limit sun exposure, & don’t get burnt!!
I literally bought good new spf sunscreen 30min ago, eventho I barely go outside, n never without protection. Based on the video I'm possibly full of cancer. Suppose I should have my odd skin defects checked by a dermatologist

Dr Karan you should make an app where people can add photos of suspicious marks and compare to known marks…could have a low barrier like free app and free upload for comparison, but then if you wanted a derm opinion on whether to jump through hoops to get a real life appointment, pay like 1$ per mark or have ads for sunscreen/related sponsors
I've had ones on my shoulders checked that are exactly like this (the response: they're fine but add extra suncream to them just incase). Never had the one on my face checked though. Always assumed it was a normal mole...
Yes anytime something doesn't heal best to have a biopsy. If it is cancer, it can spread deep below the skin and require much more extensive surgery to remove.
I have blue and brown spots from my melanoma im at stage 4 sadly. Some are pin prick size some look like bruises. Going through treatments rn. If you get weird spots get them checked. Cancer is not fun neither are treatments. Ive got a big spot on my neck that looks like a tattoo
I am sorry to hear. I hope all goes well for you. Contrary to popular beliefs, melanoma is caused by a lack of sun exposure and essential nutrients like vitamin D.
My pcp didn't want to give me dermatology referral for skin checks, even though I told him that my dad has had many melanoma removed throughout my life. Goddamnit fine I'll ask my doctor about the mole that went from brown to pink seven years ago. It kind of has a scab in the middle that doesn't go away I never thought about it but that could totally be skin cancer. Awesome.
My GP sent me to a dermatologist bc my body is weird af. The derm chick took less than 5mins to do a "full body" exam, looking at less than ¼ of my body. She also said if the mole is flakey like that it's nothing to worry about. What a wasted 5mins that was
No because I think I actually have this😭 back in middle school in eighth grade specifically I had a little bump grow next to my nose but lower down from where it is on the girls face in the video and it’s still there it’s not a pimple but it’s just a small bump of skin and it’s still there 😭😭💀
