@@Temptation666 yeah I agree, I was hoping part 2 was going to more serious alot more with amazing doctor action sequences fighting all the aliens etc instead we got...1 dalek and two Amy's and an easy escape
OHMYGOD. this might be your best reaction yet!! when you saw rory....when amy didn't know he was....when she remembered.... and when he shot amy... all of your reactions on those were great!! my favorite quotes: "a ship full of Mickeys!" and "hug! make out! don't make out."
When Moffat wrote this finale, he wanted to write himself into a corner in the first part, and then get out of it somehow in the second part. So naturally, he locked one of his leads in the perfect person, he killed the other one, and then ended the entire universe. And yet, somehow, he managed to write a second part that was, in my opinion, not just coherent, but absolutely magical.
really? Oh well, this is the one where I think Moffat got it totally right. And even if he didn't it's still a million miles away from S3 and S4 finales, which were just gobbledigook and handwaving personified.
+infernalrain Indeed. What he basically does in this episode is create an immovable object (or perhaps several - the inescapable prison, River's situation, Amy's death) and then in the finale reminds us that in the show's universe at least, there is also an unstoppable force. The solution being what happens when the two meet. And then he somehow also ties it all together to make a meta-textual allegory/thank-you note for the survival and resurrection of the show itself. Which is why though the individual episode quality is variable, as a season arc series 5 is my favourite of the revamp.
I prefer the gobbledigook. A sonic screwdriver only affects an episode whereas taking somebody out of their timeline has consequences and you shouldn't just try and ignore those consequences save where one of them can act as an immediate emotional kick. Or if you do manage to persuade us to go along with that purely for the emotional value then you really, really shouldn't pretend to be a master of complicated but consistent plotting.
+WolfGratz Careful of spoilers. Personally I don't see where that happens re: timeline but we'd need to wait until next episode to discuss it in detail (remembering that timelines become very complicated things when you routinely travel through time). Each to their own of course re: gobbledygook, different people have different tolerances. The S3 finale for instance is in some ways similar to the S5 finale in that both ultimately feature the power of ideas and words to change the world, it's just the execution which is (very) different.
It's sad to think that the Doctor's attempt to improve Vincent's life may have been what ultimately led to his suicide. (By attempting to change his fate, he inadvertently became the cause of it). The Doctor and Amy were so loved by Vincent that when he foresaw the destruction of the TARDIS (and their presumed deaths) when creating his final painting, it would have pushed him to ending his life.
I'm wary of applying fictional motivations to real-world suicides though. Let's just say the TARDIS exploding was one negative experience in the life of a man who had many of them.
What if instead: A) He saw how much he was loved and respected but his depression would not allow him to accept it and his impostor syndrome added to his feelings of inadequacy. B) at some point during the museum visit he caught wind of when and how he died and that through trying to trying to preserve the timeline actually gave him a sense of peace knowing that there was an end to his suffering.
@@rtozier2011 Struggling with chronic depression myself, I'd say applying motivations to suicide (or depression in general) is fundamentally misunderstanding exactly how awful it is; because there is no cause, there is no reason or logic to be found anywhere. Even when everything goes right, even when everybody is nice to you, even when you have no reason to feel bad - it lurks beneath the surface and may erupt. Some things might trigger it to come out, some things might amplify its impact, and some things might just be the straw that breaks your back; but the depression itself is not caused by any of it, the depression is just there, waiting to hit you, with or without provocation.
Omega is a Time Lord engineer and everyone knows where he came from. Can't really see him coming back though, since he was pretty definitively killed off.
Sesska. Quick reminder Whovians raved about the Girl in the Fireplace and you were a bit "meh!" about the episode, and then said you liked one that wasn't a fav of Whovians... It's all a matter of taste. Personally think Season 6 is epic as well.
Yeah, I've gotta admit, I know some don't like it, but series 6 is one of my favourites. Not just for its story, but also how it handles the Doctor and his character development over the New Series. I love it as much as Tom Baker's earliest seasons, really.
Here's a run down of the episode. Bad guys + Pandorica = no Doctor. No Doctor = TARDIS + boom = no history, present, future. Looking back, that was probably more confusing
It gets worse. If the Universe never existed, then that means no Gallifrey. No Gallifrey means no Doctor to steal the Tardis. Since the Tardis doesn't get stolen, then it doesn't blow up. No boom, no universal collapse. History goes on as normal. But then we lead up to these events with the Tardis blowing up. The cycle repeats over and over again. Two timelines constantly cancelling each other out. ... Just typing this made me go cross-eyed.
Rendal Constantineau yeah i'd say favorite season is different than favorite episode. One of my favorite episodes is in season 6, but i still cant decide which DW season is my all time favorite.
It really does begin to tail off from here on in though, this is where Moffat's writing stops being good and starts becoming self-indulgent fanwank, It doesn't immediately turn to dross at the beginning of season 6 and there is some great stuff there but by the latter half of season 7 we are into the serious nadir of Dr Who. Seasons 3, 4 and 5 were the glory days.
It has River, so automatically it's a great episode. And Liz Ten (too briefly) and Rory return. And the invasion of the hot Italians. And a great cliff hanger, with lovely music, as the whole universe supernovas. Bet you spend the first half of the next episode saying "What? I don't understand anything!" I did.
Yeah. Series 4 and 5 are really good seasons, but I also really enjoyed series 6 and it probably has one of my favourite story arcs. I think you would really enjoy season 6.
I think you are incapable of doing a DW reaction i don't enjoy. And don't be sad. You still have A LOT of amazing and awesome Who to look forward to. I hope we get to continue to share this journey with you!
Joe Cromarty I know this is late but naw she brought back the original from the crack like she brought back her parents....but somehow he remembers Roman stuff....yeah
reluctantmuggle Very that with this then but, He remembers the Roman stuff because the Roman Rory was built from Amy’s memory. In the same way she brought back her parents by remembering them even though they never existed, she brought back the Rory she remembered. However because she met Roman Rory, who was by all purposes the original Rory just plastic, the two memories (the second literally being a copy of the first who survived and lived in a different time period) basically became one and made a Rory who remembers their adventures, dying to the slylerians, reappearing as plastic, waiting two thousand years, then waking up like he never died, but remembers it. Like how Amy remembers the angle in her eye though it never existed. He never was plastic but remembers it. That was probably really confusing but it’s the most logical thing I can think off.
Never bother with what People say about a Series or Episode. That is their own Personal Opinion. That's why they are different. I enjoyed ALL the seasons and it is YOUR own Personal that counts. (Check your PMs)
It's perfectly possible to enjoy different seasons or episodes for different reasons. Just as you can get a lot from individual episodes or even scenes within a whole you find disappointing. An old mate of mine who sadly passed away a couple of years ago used to have a gentle word when I went into rant mode about a theatrical production. He would point out that there was always something to be got out of every performance. And then Frank would rattle off loads of stuff I'd overlooked. He was a very lovely bloke and I miss him but his wisdom remains with me (though occasionally I still get a tad carried away).
DarthRushy. I have seen a small number of Reactors that, rather than sit back and enjoy an Episode, they look for faults. That's the People I feel sorry for. I have never had a problem with the quality of an Episode and if every story was the same you would only need one Episode repeated and repeated again.
one thing I really love about this episode is that you can see real fear from the doctor when they're dragging him. You never see him terrified like that. he was literally drug away kicking and screaming
The second of these final 2 episodes will make it all make sense. 2 great episodes, but the first can be really confusing without the context of the second. Always best watched as a double feature. And episode 2 is Moffat letting loose and really having some fun with the idea of time travel.
@@hagridmaryI know this comment is 6 years old lol, but I wouldn't say its "diabolical". I really like the god complex, and despite its faults, the wedding of river song has some great moments in it. Really the only stinker in the second half imo is closing time.
@@mrknowhere6457 Over the past 6 years I've come to actually quite like The God Complex. However, The Wedding of River Song is probably one of the worst finales ever imo (excluding the Chibnall era).
A great reaction from a great person. I love that it returns to the magical theme of the beginning of the season. It's a bit out there, but it works for me. Rory and River are awesome and so are you. Whether or not you love this finale (or River for that matter) we love you for being you, not just what you do. Don't forget it EVER!! Thank you :)
The first time i saw Amy find the ring in the doctor's jacket pocket, i thought she was gonna assume that the DOCTOR was gonna propose to AMY. did anyone else think that she would think that??
Damn, my heart is beating fast. Watching this over with Jess is like twice as good as originally seeing it. Can't wait for the next episode, it's the very first one I ever saw!
Funny, when they said they wanted to save the universe fom the Doctor, they were partially correct in the end. They had the right idea but they didn't know the way in which he had to reset/destroy the universe to create it again.
Crying while shouting "What the fuck is happening?", "WHAT THE FUCK? WHAT THE FUCK? WHAT THE FUCK?" and "I don't know how I feel about that." is what makes us whovians.
Don't listen to the pessimists saying there aren't any good seasons left. In my opinion each season of doctor who has been progressively better and better so believe me you have PLENTY of awesome to look forward to
Not sure if you know but two videos have been uploaded of your reaction to this video. type into youtube: doctor who the pandorica opens reaction, and then filter it so that you see them by the view count and scroll down and there are 2 videos of this reaction posted by different people
Man 4 years ago?? This was about where you were when I started watching and binged your reactions up to this point... man honestly crazy to think it's been that long, but logically completely makes sense... basically life is going by a little too fast thanks. But hey you're still my favourite reactor.
Ah brilliant - this two-parter is probably my favourite season ending, along with that of S9. Just like in the library story, I think Moff pitches the humour and mystery and intrigue in the first episode, gives it a cracking cliffhanger. The second half, thankfully fails to blow it. And I think there's enough energy and style to stop me from trying to pick apart the plot (and, no, I don't quite understand a lot of what happens in this episode either). Hope your allergies go away!
Love this episode. The hello Stonehenge speech was great. The Doctor's line about nothing ever being forgotten and things can come back if you remember them was always really inspirational to me. Not sure why but I really like it. My favorite quote tho is in the next episode. Great reaction as always.
The Stonehenge speech or the nothing ever being forgotten ? The Stonehenge speech is great as it is but it's also a near perfect summation of Matt Smith's Doctor - "Talk very fast, hope something good happens, take the credit". He's bluffing but then the Doctor is always sort of bluffing. Until he isn't. And the nothing ever forgotten speech ? Well, that's the season arc right ? And part of the lovely meta-textual nod to the "wilderness years" that series 5 is partly about (oblique to avoid spoilers). Both typify the best of Moffat's writing IMO, they work on a few different levels.
osumarko The only thing about the big speech is, even though it is amazing, in the context of the bad guys plan it loses some of the punch. They didn't just run away because of his speech, they had a plan all along, and they had to leave him alone with the box. Still a well written, awesome speech, but knowing what we know I just imagine all the bad guys laughing at him for not having any idea it's a trap
Great reaction by the loveliest of reactors. Can't wait for the 2nd part. & don't feel you have to stick to your whole "wait for Friday" schedule if really really want to find out what happens. :)
"What the fuck, what the fuck, what the fuck" - everyone watching this episode, tbh. Also YAY RORY. I loved that reaction of yours. And as always, you have the most priceless reactions to River. :D And don't worry, HOPEFULLY things will make more sense by next episode (even though I've had to rewatch it a few times to really catch on to everything). As for being sad about series' ending... Just take it as it comes. I know some people who didn't start to like DW until s5 and forward. I know some people who like s7 the best. I know some people who hate s5. Personally I absolutely adore s9 and s6, even though s5 is possibly my favorite, but it really depends on my mood. Everyone has very different rankings for the series'. Just let it come and see what works for you and what doesn't. :) I feel sorry for you that your allergies have to hit you now, when you're watching a bunch of pretty emotional episodes in a row. Good luck with that for the next one as well. Can't wait for it. Also, you've really got it down well with this editing style. It's nice!
I love this when he's telling them to back off because of all the times they were beat in the past i love the doctors speechs then everything with river is so great the whole thing with rory is happy then you go to being sad but this was one of my favorite reactions from you with all the cool stuff
A quick comment from Ireland you're a truly gourgous Lady with a lovely smile and warmth about you. And despite your lack of faith in yourself in the eyes of many an Irish man. Being willing to wear your 💓 for the world to see despite how at times it can be broken is a true strength of character in a woman. So I wish you nothing but happiness in your future and in Life take care God bless :)
This 2 parter is especially epic in scope. There is so much going on, that if you're not up on the new series you might get lost. Part 2 doesn't disappoint.
The next episode is one that you'll need to really concentrate to understand. It's a lot of timey-wimey stuff and convolutedness, but in the end delivers a pretty satisfying and nicely tied together conclusion. Hope you like it!
when dorium maldovar says he got the "vortex manipulator, fresh off the wrist of a handsome time agent" I just thought... is he talking about captain jack????
11 that is the running theory but don't forget there were other time agents. john(?) Jack's old partner from torchwood was the only other one shown but it's implied there are others as well
Possibly but then we have to remember that the species representatives don't necessarily come from a period immediately after those we have seen. Something may have gone awry afterwards. They may be getting their retaliation in first from our point of view.
Love this finale- its just so much fun and has more entertaining ideas crammed into it than a whole series of most TV. But are you going to make us wait a full week for part 2?
Whovians will never agree on the worsts or bests seasons, episodes, Doctor, companions because they are so different, and so are people's tastes. We can only tell you what we like. You have yet to see some of my very favorites, there are alot of epic moments to come ^^
Great reaction! You needn't worry, there's a LOT of great stuff ahead! Series 6 and 7 are great, probably not just as great as series 4 and 5, but I still really love them. And series 9 is just the best.
2 companions presumed dead, one is a robot that murders one of the first, and the doctor imprisoned in an inescapable cell... hell of a set up for the finale
I personally always loved series 6 hugely with one episodes clip being how I told my boyfriend i loved him for the first time :D and he's pretty clear on me being the nerdy guy in our relationship lol. Dont let other thoughts influence ya if you can i think you'll find many things to love about the seasons ahead :D
