Remember that the blue guy sold River the vortex manipulator that he said was taken off the wrist of a handsome time agent? And how in this episode they reveal that blue guy gets his objects that he sells from the headless monks? And how the headless monks get those objects from the people they cut the head off of? you just got the origin story of the face of boe, aka captain Jack Harkness.

Apparently at one time (either for this episode or the 50th Anniversary) Moffat did ask Barrowman if he can come shoot an episode, but he couldn't free-up the time due to other filming he had scheduled. Liam Catterson it would have ruined his characters logic though as he was set to be decapitated to explain how he becomes the face of boe, despite regenerating all of his limbs, organs and skin etc when he was blown up in children of earth so it wouldn’t have made sense for it to happen this way, there’s also the fact that Russel T Davies wanted to leave just enough information in there so it that could be true and just enough so that it could also be false. He didn’t want the show to totally confirm or totally deny that he was the face of boe. Moffat would have been totally confirming it if John Barrowman was available and he went ahead with his original plan so I’m glad he never got his hands on Captain Jack for his time as show runner. In the last episode when Amy thought she was talking to the flesh Doctor but it was really the real one, she told him that they saw him die. That was the point where he freaked out as if he was sensing something as the flesh. I think he faked that as a distraction so she'd stop telling him things he shouldn't know. @@bun6134 Well, she IS SJW pandering, the BBC practically beat is over the head with the fact that Bill was gay, conveniently leaving out anything else that may have made her, oh i don't know, an interesting character, wait, nope, I've said one too many words, that would have made her a character, but that's not the only reason I think she's the worst thing about new Who. There's a bit of a chain of thought needed to exlain why though, so prior to travelling with the Doctor she thought the TARDIS was an extention of his office, but she'd have to have walked through the control room..... to get into his office, so there's some proof that she doesn't understand bjective reality, which is in-and-of-itself proof of an overall lack of common sense, and if the Doctor's companions lack common sense, then just anybody can be a companion, which makes the whole exclusivity of time-travelling with the Doctor irrelevant, and if just anybody can make a position irrelevant, then it never really mattered in the first place, meaning Rose, Jack, Clara, Amy, Donna, Martha and the rest are inconsequential in the grand scheme of the series.
@bun6134
@bun6134 5 лет назад
Almost all companions were more 'beating us over the head' about their sexuality than Bill was. Consider how often Amy's sexuality is brought up, in comparison. At the start of series 10, Bill was somewhat ashamed for her sexuality, but over time grew more confident and learned that there really was nothing to be ashamed of - Jack was never ashamed for his sexuality. That's the difference. Hate to break it to you buddy, but DW, like most Sci-Fi, has been progressively leaning since day one. It isn’t something that just recently popped up like most of you "SJW PWNERS" think - the only think that has sprung up in the last 10 years is your kind and platforms for you to speak on. I think it is rather odd to call Amy/Jack/Clara/Amy/Donna/Martha people with "common sense", but not Bill. Bill was at the top of her class at university, and always asked the right questions. What makes any of the other companions so clever in your opinion? She saw the Doctor like the grandfather she never had, and her arc perfectly reflects the warmth that Pearl Mackie brought to the character. You argue that Bill is a bad companion, because Bill mentioned her sexuality a few times (I fail to see how that's a problem unless you're homophobic) and 'lacks common sense' because of some shit about the Doctor's office (?????). Okay pal.
@sinopia450
@sinopia450 5 лет назад
@@bun6134 Personally I've been really hating it when TV shows shove sexuality down your throat. It's bad when one of the first traits you think of for a character becomes "gay/lesbian" instead of their actual personality. I think it's awesome we're being more progressive in media, but it shouldn't be super in-your-face. That said, I agree that it wasn't pushed that hard with Bill. It felt natural enough to me, and I really liked her character.

The first 7 episodes aired in Spring 2011. The remaining 6 episodes aired in Autumn the same year. Steven Moffat has said in interviews that it was the BBC's decision to split because there was another show they didn't want it to overlap with in the summer (likely Torchwood: Miracle Day), but that he already intended to have this in the middle of the series so it suited being split. The next episode has a meta-joke about the Doctor being away all summer.

11 here is a lot like 7 in that deep down there is this sinister and dark side he'll turn to. 7 was the Doctor who would straight up tell his companions to blow shit up. Some Doctors worry and fret and negotiate with their enemies. 7 and here 11 are just "Your plan is stupid, you're stupid, and you just called down the thunder!".

Fun fact about the term "doctor". Just like to them it meant "warrior", to us it means "healer", but neither are the original meaning. "Doctor" in Latin meant "teacher", hence the connection with "doctrine" (teaching).

I like to think she was taken when they separated in the second episode, exploring the country to find out what the Silence were. Because she really does think she's pregnant when she shoots the suit, there's mention she's put on a couple of pounds, and other symptoms. But when she visits the orphanage, she sees the sliding door. So before then, but after the doctor "died."

This is when she's first introduced. The Silurians in the classic era were in much smaller groups than the civilisation depicted in series 5, and looked very different. The modern redesign was explained as being a different branch of the species. There's a tiny bit of backstory given in this episode. If I remember right, she's the only survivor of another small group underneath London. I wouldn't be surprised if Big Finish later did an origin story for her.

QUESTION TO ALL OF YOU: So as someone who loves season 6 and saw everyone(a lot of people) saying that season 6 is where it goes downhill, I’m intrigued to hear why. I’ll at least accept that the ending isn’t great. That’s fair. I like tWoRS but I can at least see why it wouldn’t be a good episode. However, besides that, I can think of any bad episode individually. Everyone they’ve reacted so far has been decent-good. And we have let’s kill hitler, night terrors, girl who waited, god complex and closing time... all which I would class as very solid episodes. (The point I’m making is that if there’s only one episode not considered good, how isn’t the series at least considered decently enjoyable?)
@Mrazmatmahmood
@Mrazmatmahmood 5 лет назад
Gilanes This might be a long comment, so sorry about that in advance. Firstly, I'll start off with why I think series 6 as a whole doesn't work. The emotional impact of Amy and Rory losing their daughter is completely glossed over. Mel being revealed to be River and growing up alongside Amy and Rory all along is a ridiculous attempt at softening the blow of them losing Melody. The Doctor using the teselecta is a cheap get out of jail card, which doesn't even make sense because the Doctor started to regenerate in "The Impossible Astronaut". The teselecta is a machine operated by humans. It shouldn't have been able to replicate a regeneration. It would've made slightly more sense if it was a flesh duplicate of the Doctor, but that thread was completely dropped and never mentioned again. Even then, the Eleventh Doctor was the last in the Doctor's regeneration cycle, so it would've still been inconsistent because he had no regenerations left. Also, the whole premise of the series is kind of ridiculous. They teased us with the possibility of the Doctor dying, but we all knew it was a bluff. As a result, the level of dramatic tension and suspense wasn't as much they probably hoped. We were simply waiting too see the answers to all of our many, many questions and find out how the Doctor got out of it in the end. It would've helped if the answers were at all satisfactory. Why was it necessary for the Doctor and River to get married? It felt so OTT and dramatic for absolutely no reason. All of that emotional build up and drama felt so cheap, unnecessary and manipulative, when the teselecta twist was revealed. Also, it was never even explained how the Silence were able to control and blow up the Tardis in the previous series' finale and why they were willing to put all of reality in danger just to stop the Doctor from getting to Trenzalore? They were trying to save reality by destroying all of reality? Makes sense. As for the episode quality, I think the opening two parter, "The Doctor's Wife" and AGMGTW are all brilliant stories. The only other good episodes in the series are TGWW and "The God Complex". The rest of the episodes are either mediocre like "The Rebel Flesh"/"The Almost People" and "Night Terrors". Or they were just bad like "The Curse of the Black Spot", "Let's Kill Hitler", "Closing Time" and "The Wedding of River Song". That's half of the series' episodes that aren't good. I would agree that it's not a terrible series though. In all honesty, there isn't a single terrible series. There are just some that are poor in comparison to the rest and some that standout. I think series 6 is an ok series overall, but it has lots and lots of missed opportunities. I would argue that there's never been a more ambitious series than series 6 and there's something to be said about that. The arc, no matter how ridiculous in it's premise was incredibly interesting and innovative. It had the potential to be absolutely mind blowing in the same way the previous series' cracks in time arc was. However, Moffat put himself into a corner by putting so much in to the series arc and making it so integral to the series as a whole. The arc HAD to be great for the series to succeed and it wasn't. Moffat put all his eggs into one basket and he couldn't quite turn his ambition into something truly great in the end. Again, apologies for the long comment, but I hope I got my points across well enough and you understand why so many people think series 6 is probably second only to series 7 as the weakest series.

I think it's very underrated. The arc is very flawed, and the finale isn't very satisfying, but dangnabit this season as a whole was one of the most exciting rollercoaster rides of a season for me, even if it didn't stick the landing. The two that I HATE are Black Spot and Night Terrors, but there are usually 2 shit eps a season. 1, 2, 4, 7, 10, 11 are all fantastic imo, 12 is pretty great too

The VR idea is a cool one. You need to write a Who script! The avatar was Amy last episode...that is, her consciousness was in and was directing the avatar. I love love Rory in this. I think the doctor had him wear centurion clothes to open the door in his mind to his centurion past and skills. Love Rory the centurion. Wish we had more of that after his plastic period. This ep had some fantastic characters. Some of the best of Moffats run. This is also one of the episodes that made me believe the Doctor was a serious badass in the time war. Btw..,the baby was there with Amy, but not later when Rory “rescued” her. The doctor is the name he chose when he became a time lord. We don’t know the name he was given at birth (or whatever gallifreyans do). A lot of these questions are answered or implied in the Classic series. The doctor was always somewhat asexual...and clueless about human reproduction. It is possible it’s different on gallifrey. Or maybe for time lords. Don’t confuse fondness for sexual love (as I think Rose did). Ten loved Rose but could not love her the way she wanted him to, until part of him (a detached part!) became part human. It’s just not in him naturally. He probably can experience it but I’m not sure it’s a normal thing for time lords
