I finally figured out why the Remastered one feels off- the original carefully times the music and clips so that footage of the Doctor always accompanied the "weee-oooh" from the title theme. The remastered one... doesn't. Admittedly, though, I do think the Remastered one got something right by using footage of Roger Delgado's master. Why was he nowhere in the original version?
Yeah, I loved that in the original and was disappointed when they didn't keep it in the remastered version. It's a subtle touch, but a nice one. Although overall, I think I do prefer the remastered one over the original; I like how it has more and, in my opinion, better scenes, especially with the Master and the meeting with the Fifth Doctor at the end.
Both are great for different reasons. The second probably better incorporates things the Brigadier witnessed, more or less, first-hand. For instance, he didn't come face-to-face with the Gold Dalek or the Cyberman emerging from the "cocoon," even though both were great images. The addition of the Master on the second was great. Also, in the second one, the clips change better with the music (as mentioned above). It's a subtle difference, but it makes the transitions smooth. Barry Letts always insisted that the end title credits change with the music (and he was right to do so). Once you notice it, it just looks better. Anyway, I do miss the "weee-oooh" being incorporated with the image of the Doctor that the first one has. But hey, we got two versions to enjoy.
The original was better imo but the fact that it didn’t include any shots of the Master makes it feel incomplete. The remake is definitely wonky and drawn out but at least it included him.
I'm usually a purist and don't like them meddling but come on guys, the second one was better. They used a better variety of footage (although not the Daleks strangely enough) and the woo-ooh not matching with the doctors isn't a big problem in my opinion. Good job whoever did this!
It would've been interesting to see Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart's expression if the Doctor told him the circumstances that led him to his 4th regeneration and that the Master got a new body before his 12th regeneration was over and that he' became more dangerous before the Brigadier would later encounter him and knock him out.
