London Ontario Canada here supporting you as much as I can. That was so much fun. Thank you for the reaction video. Cant wait for the next episode. Love that last line. I genuinely believe this is the best 54 minutes of entertainment ever created. Whether that be a TV show, movie, comic book, novel, whatever, I think this is the best. I try not to rewatch it too often, just how you wouldn't eat filet mignon everyday, because I don't want the episode to lose its elegance. But every time I watch it, it is simply magnificent. From the glorious cinematography to the script, lighting, Capaldi's astonishing performance and the unbeatable soundtrack, this episode is perfection. A masterpiece. The masterpiece. The only thing that comes close (for me) is Ozymandias from Breaking Bad of course.

The creature would have to reset every time, otherwise it would be incredibly stupid. I mean, if the creature could remember every cycle, it would be able to predict where Capaldi was going and could just wait for him there. Also, that creature accepting the same damn confessions over and over again for 4.5 billion years would be ridiculous.
@FordyGames
@FordyGames 4 года назад
@@TheBS1000 not necessarily, Remember the main point of the creature is that it's supposed to scare the doctor, which is why it never runs or attempts to speed up, It's just meant to scare not actually kill, the council of Gallifrey never would've thought that the doctor would actually let it catch up to him, They just assumed that he would just keep running and confessing until he either got too tired to run and confessed what they wanted to know or just ran out of other things to confess and told them,

This episode actually helped me with the grief of loosing my mum. She’d passed away from cancer at the beginning of 2014 and I was struggling. After watching this episode I learned to keep on fighting. That no matter how isolated you may feel, nothing is more important than fighting to keep their memory alive. I still suffer with depression to this day but now I treat it as a companion. It doesn’t necessarily set me back, it helps me learn about myself and brings the best out of me. And unfortunately he had to ruin the entire emotional impact of the last two episodes in Hell Bent. Imagine how good it would have been if this could have been the last episode of Series 9 and the other side of the diamond wall he has to break through is just his TARDIS. His real home. Maybe add a few lines of dialogue in there of the Clara in his mind reminding him that she asked him not to seek revenge and ordering him to let her go. Something other than whatever the fuck Hell Bent was.

there's this emperor and he asks this shepherd's boy, how many seconds in eternity? And the shepherd's boy says, there's this mountain of pure diamond. It takes an hour to climb it, and an hour to go around it! Every hundred years, a little bird comes and sharpens its beak on the diamond mountain. And when the entire mountain is chiselled away, the first second of eternity will have passed! You must think that's a hell of a long time, Personally, I think that's a hell of a bird.

Could someone explain the line. I mean I get it but the “I think that’s one hell of a bird”. I don’t get it. What did the bird do? One aspect I like that pairs nicely with Face the Raven is how it demonstrates how conscious of his actions the Doctor is. A lot of seemingly random actions are actually about gathering information so when he takes a risk, it's a very calculated one. (And obviously, being able to regenerate is a pretty great fallback if things go bad.) You also see Missy exhibit some of the same behaviors. But his companions just see him taking huge risks and apparently surviving by virtue of being clever and quirky. So when they try to emulate that behavior, as the very clever Clara did, it can be fatal. Rory called him out on this their first trip - the most dangerous thing about the Doctor is how he makes people want to impress him. Rory traveled on the TARDIS because of Amy, not the Doctor or the thrill of adventure, so he was much more clear-eyed about the risks.

basically, when the doctor screws around, it might be for fun but he's also looking for any information he can use to turn the situation to his advantage. He's basically Shaun from Psych, putting on airs but always looking around for every detail he can to solve the mystery.

btw here's the story part of which the Doctor tells in the end: There was once on a time a shepherd boy whose fame spread far and wide because of the wise answers which he gave to every question. The King of the country heard of it likewise, but did not believe it, and sent for the boy. Then he said to him: "If thou canst give me an answer to three questions which I will ask thee, I will look on thee as my own child, and thou shall dwell with me in my royal palace." The boy said: "What are the three questions?" The King said: "The first is, how many drops of water are there in the ocean?" The shepherd boy answered: "Lord King, if you will have all the rivers on earth dammed up so that not a single drop runs from them into the sea until I have counted it, I will tell you how many drops there are in the sea." The King said: "The next question is, how many stars are there in the sky?" The shepherd boy said: "Give me a great sheet of white paper," and then he made so many fine points on it with a pen that they could scarcely be seen, and it was all but impossible to count them; any one who looked at them would have lost his sight. Then he said: "There are as many stars in the sky as there are points on the paper; just count them." But no one was able to do it. The King said: "The third question is, how many seconds of time are there in eternity." Then said the shepherd boy: "In Lower Pomerania is the Diamond Mountain, which is two miles and a half high, two miles and a half wide, and two miles and a half in depth; every hundred years a little bird comes and sharpens its beak on it, and when the whole mountain is worn away by this, then the first second of eternity will be over."

What I love about the capaldi era, Capaldi, only signed one season at a time. And each finale was written with capaldi’s departure in mind. His first series wasn’t anything too dramatic, other than what I imagine, he would have fired at Missy backfiring onto himself. Series 9 was the memory wipe potentially being incompatible. Series 10, was as it was. But you had that risk this doctor would be gone sooner than you would expect.

This episode is so sick in so many ways man. The way it showcases how the Doctor breaks down a problem, literally slowing down time by thinking faster than any human could fathom, receding into his mind palace, which of course is his beloved home: the TARDIS. The way it showcases the strength of a Time Lords physiology by explicitly stating that Azbantium is 400 times harder than Diamond, and yet a Time Lord can punch through it, given enough time. The way it shows how it takes *days* for a Time Lord to really die fully, giving him just enough time to crawl back to the teleporter and re-fuel it with the last of his life-energy.

@@justsomerandomguyonline1144 I still do not understand how this is the worst, like in the entire show? Have you've SEEN the Twin Dilemma? Time and The Rani? The Leisure Hive? And if you mean the new series may I remind that Orphan 55 and Arachnids and the UK exist, and you say worst that isn't Chibnall, may I also remind you that The Idiots Lantern exists. Again, opinions are subjective but you can't seriously expect everywhere to hate an episode you don't like when it has probably objectively one of the most beautifully written stories out of anything the franchise has ever had.

I appreciate the fact that 12 has more time to tell the story the farther the tunnel into the barrier extends. It's heartbreaking that when he first sees the barrier on each reboot, immediately all the memories from the previous versions of himself come back. "But I can remember Clara, you don't understand. I can remember it all." Billions of years of repetition of the same loop of activity is a devastating concept.
