I loved how much Capaldi's Doctor developed (at least compared to some of the other Doctors) sometimes in noticeably drastic ways and sometimes in very subtle ways. My personal favorite development he had was his views on hugs. When he 1st starts out he says he's not a hugger to Clara, but by the end of his Era he was definitely a hugger and valued being close to his Companions.

If a person's memories are stored at Testimony then, yes - they've already died. At some point Clara travelled back to Gallifrey and was returned to her death with the Raven, at which point Testimony picked her up. Likewise, Bill also died sometime after we last saw her in the show (she didn't see Heather coming for her until after she was separated from her original human body so the memory construct that works for Testimony has to have been acquired after her transformation).

I normally don't really care for Christmas episodes, but this is the best Christmas episode and one of the best overall episodes. I have no idea how Moffat got the idea to use the Christmas Armistice as a plot point and character development, but it's the most ingenious bit of writing in all of Doctor Who. It's such a great message, and the flip on the Doctor of War is just the best in the tradition of Doctor Who writing flipping an idea on its head.

There was no significant button-pushing at the end. That TARDIS reaction had nothing to do with pushing a button. And the people we saw that the _Testimony_ brought back, had been brought back from after the point when they died. They are dead. They're not duplicates, this is what's left after they've lived their lives (however long that might have been). You've got to remember that this show is not always linear. *EDIT:* It's as you said *JV,* of course there were people who were upset that it was a woman. But many were just upset that, after having watched many episodes, the show was just too different for them. Which is what happens when a new showrunner comes in to try something new. I'm not going to share my opinion as yet, as I don't want to color your experience.
@AlanCanon2222
@AlanCanon2222 2 года назад
I loved the image of the book pages pouring out of the TARDIS for me it symbolizes the end of one story and the beginning of another. I've really enjoyed Jodie Whitaker's run as the Doctor (having just watched S13). Chris Chibnall changed some things up, but the show is inherently about regeneration and reinvention. If some of his episodes weren't as strong as others, well, after 58 years of episodes, they're not all going to be winners. In no way did he or Whitaker "destroy Doctor Who".

Christopher regenerates into David in the TARDIS: TARDIS does a pinball game around the Powell Estate David regenerates into Matt in the TARDIS: TARDIS flies around London, as the Doctor hangs onto the edge for dear life and manages to get back in. Matt regenerates into Peter: TARDIS presents the Doctor with a dino companion after being stuck in the throat of one. Peter regenerates into Jodie in the TARDIS: Doc gets kicked out, probably because TARDIS is sick of them regenerating inside her. Also, Jodie's last story airs next year, so will she continue the pattern...?

"Lethbridge Steward" - Kate (Lethbridge) Stewart is the scientific head of UNIT (from series 7, Day of the Doctor etc.). Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart (her father) was a companion of a few classic doctors (3 and 4 certainly, possibly others). As for the Tardis - I personally think the Tardis didn't want a woman! I'll be honest here, the 1st Doctor is really not written well at all here, a lot of stuff like the over the top sexism, and even implied homophobia is not a thing in the 1st Doctor's era. There may have been questionable statements at certain times, but nowhere near the degree that this episodes make it out to be. Moffat had admitted in the past he never really liked the Hartnell era, so I wish Mark Gatiss (The Captain) would have Co-wrote this episode, since he actually is a massive 1st Doctor fan, and even wrote An Adventure in Space and Time

The First Doctor is showing the attitudes of when the show originated. I love that they are doing that...showing the evolution not just of the show, but of the whole society. I thought it was brilliantly done. I have seen some of the First Doctor episodes and I like him. In many ways Capaldi's Doctor is similar to the Hartnell version. Most of the others were clownish or slick in some ways. Hartnell and Capaldi played crusty, cynical, old Doctors which works well for me. Perhaps because I am rather crusty, cynical, and getting on old (particularly after having kids!). The Lethbridge-Stewart connection starts in the second (?) doctor and is emphasized in the third doctor. His daughter is in the new series. Officers of UNIT.

That aspect was overlarded which was a shame and the writing of it sadly gave a veered off impression. I was more convinced with the "Doctor of war" line. No the glass people collect memories from dead people before they die which means at some point Clara did return to Gallifrey to be put back in her timestream seconds before she was killed by the raven so there is no way she will come back. Bill also eventually dies so she must had changed her mind about being back to a human and Nardole also dies from the looks of it and just to say Nardole is not human and he was a companion and male. Jodie Whittaker has been the Doctor since 2017 this Christmas special is almost 4 years ago. William Hartnell the "real" First Doctor didn't act anything remotely sexist like that.

There are a lot of people being total assholes about the next Doctor. I love Jodie's Doctor. Like any other season, there are some good episodes and some bad. I think the current season is fantastic.

You've finally got to the end of doctor who.... I recommend u watch an adventure in space and time, its brilliant, then if u can, move onto classic dr who, it's a little creaky but the stories are great!!! It's been a journey!

Jodie's run had the misfortune to start with no continuity from the previous one - different doctor, different gender, different assistants, different producer.

Jon Pertwee, Christopher Eccleston and Matt Smith started their eras with a different producer/show runner and a different companion/assistant from before how is it a misfortune that Jodie Whittaker started the same way ?

Peter capaldi best doctor of modern era doctor who, even tho his era was very up and down. I don’t think the characterisation of the first doctor is that good in this tho, he hardly has the twinkle william hartnell brought, just seems like a grumpy confused old man in this☹️

Making The First Doctor sexist just for the sake of showing how progressive The BBC are is an insult to The character. Whenever Modern Doctor Who viewers watch this episode that is what they think he was like.

don't listen to the haters, the next 3 seasons are just as good as the previous ones, it's my personal favourite era just go into the next seasons with the same excitement as before, and form your own opinions :D if you end up not liking it, that's totally valid, but don't let people ruin it for you

This episode is a great meta-story to symbolize what Doctor Who became after William Hartnell left the show in 1966, and it's a farewell message from Steven Moffat leaving Doctor Who in other hands, and it's also a musical farewell from Murray Gold the composer, retracing his work from the past 12 years for the show :) But they did the 1st Doctor dirty, he was a perfect gentleman at the time (the actor wasn't as much irl but that's not the point here), they used him here as a criticism of the 60s sexism, when the show itself at the time wasn't so awful like that to women even though not perfect ^^

Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart is in charge of UNIT on earth during the 1960s thru 1980s I believe. He and The Doctor had had many episodes together from I believe the 2nd Doctor on. I believe the dislike of the new Doctor isn't just sexism. The writers / creator whatever have gone full on WOKE which is pissing many off. They also rewrote The Doctor's origin which pissed even more off. The first 7 Doctors had a number of male companions.

David Bradley was gd as the first Doctor Steven Moffats writing from him was terrible absolutely terrible as most fans know the first Doctor and the writing back then wasn't as sexist as he made out. Your better of watching a few original 1960s episodes.

There really is no continuity with Dr Who. This is just really good fantasy and every new showrunner has their own take. Just take it the companions are gone. This was a weird series in that major companions died verses the old traditions where the only one that died was Adrac. I mentally keep not consistency between the stories in my head.
