I can’t believe how much I missed Murray Gold. Assuming that everything here is as advertised, I am already in love with the new music cues. Fingers crossed that Doctor Who returns back better than ever. 👍🏾
“Now, one of BBC One’s biggest heroes is back and it’s about time. Action, Adventure and some Scares 2020s style as mankind faces total destruction, in Doctor Who”.
Ruby Sundays theme is absolutely beautiful and heavenly. The new intro is unbelievably powerful and ofc the 15th theme, first one and second is just pure chaos and magic LIKE THE ELECTRIC GUITAR?!!! TRUMPETS?!?!🫶🫶🫶 when these get released/come out officially I will be unavailable for like 2 months to cope with it.
I know right ? Add to this that she's gonna play it on Piano just like Clara's theme was played on the Guitar and the similitudes are definitely there!
Welcome back Murray Gold. Especially glad his time away strengthened his creativity. Twelve's theme was a derivative of Eleven's theme which was a derivative of Ten's theme. "Fifteen" is its own creation. Excellent.
You're right about the derivatives from 10-12 but I actually really liked that about their themes. Although a different face and personality, still the same man. Their themes was a continuation of the same character yet obviously different.
Oh God I missed him so much!! By the way, is it just me or the first notes for the 15th theme sounds like something coming out of a Wild West movie? to be clear, I'm not complaining, i love it!
Nice to see you back! Thanks for the clean upload of these wonderful themes (hope you caught the tease of Series 10 soundtrack woth "I am a Good Man" (formerly known as Vale Unus)
It's still a little slow and dragging compared to most other versions, but it definitely a huge improvement over 13's theme, in my opinion. I also hear definite cues from 10 and 11's variations here and there. To me, the gold standard (oh wow, that was an accidental pun XD) for the best versions are 10's second theme and 12's theme. Whatever the case, I'm definitely looking forward to this new era. It feels great to be excited for Doctor Who again!
Gold standard? Was that an intended pun because Murray Gold is the standard for Doctor Who music. No disrespect to Segun Akinola and I guess his work fits Chibnall/Whitaker version of the Doctor but it just didn't work for me. Like, at all.
@@antoniochasten3192 It wasn't intended to be, but I realized what I'd said like two minutes after I posted it, so I definitely embrace the pun wholeheartedly. XD I definitely agree with what you said there.
I'm getting villain vibes from Ruby Sunday with that theme for some reason. Anyone else? Makes me think she'll be an ordinary girl with a DARK secret...
murray gold for the music, RTD for writing, David and catherine in the main roles, a young woman named rose. The birthday special cant come any sooner!! (And also very excited for 15!)
As part of the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who BBC Radio 2 did a special show "Doctor Who @ 60: A Musical Celebration" similar to Doctor Who proms in the past but it also featured these three new tracks. If in the UK you can find it on BBC sounds not sure about outside UK
That picture of the 15th doctor(forgot the actors name sadly.) his outfit was definetly inspired by the 9th with his jumpers. and the 11th doctor the suit.
Theme is a bit busy for my taste; feels like 2008 just with more thrown at it. 15’s theme is very fun (feels very Barry Gray inspired, which is a plus) and Ruby’s theme is art, though curious how that is translated to onscreen.
I am not sure about the theme music I thought they might go back to the earlier versions of the theme it’s missing that doctor who moment when you hear it it may grow on me but the jury s out
Still waiting for MG to release Series 10. The fact that this got released first is such a slap in the face. Come on Murray Gold, get your shit together
I don't have a source on this, just hearsays from people who work in the music industry, but it is apparently not Gold's fault. It's a licensing issue that should be resolved now (Gold himself teased it was coming recently).
@@timetraveller07well he works for the BBC, there’s the whole fact the music is done by the welsh orchestra, so there’s bbc, bad wolf studios, welsh and UK deals I’m assuming different laws and licenses I don’t really know but it’s not as simple as it just being his music so he should be able to get it released all by himself.
@@timetraveller07 To add to what Obiwan said, there's also the publishing labels composers work with that are not own by BBC/Badwolf etc. For example Gold used to be with Silva Screen but isn't anymore. Apparently once he left the show he changed labels so he couldn't release the soundtrack, but now that he's back it's on the table again. Again it's just rumors so take it with a grain of salt haha.
Man I'm depressed by how this 'era' is shaping up. I'll give it a chance and it'll grow on me but Fifteen's theme sounds like Ten's crossed with a 1980s James Bond soundtrack, and Ruby's sounds like she's gonna be yet another manic pixie dream girl sidekick who ends up being the most important girl who ever lived (again). Where did the space, time and mystery go? BUT Oswin you are a superstar for posting this, thank you so much, I'm not thrilled that the show is just dialling back about 15 years but I really appreciate being able to listen to this. 💙💙
Thanks I appreciate it! Judging by what Davies said about Ruby it looks like her storyline will be a lot more personal this time rather than being huge universe-destruction related stuff. I've watched most of RTD's TV shows and honestly I am pretty confident it will be great, he is a very talented writer. At the very least Gold's music will be outstanding haha.
@@OswinPond Just different tastes I think, I _loved_ Segun's more ambient style. I'm sure RTD+Gold+Tennant will bring back a lot of people who couldn't handle that change though. I wish we were getting something new but I get why they're doing it and I will give it a fair chance. Gonna be a fun ride either way 🤪 And I hope it gives you everything you're hoping for and you love every minute!
@@RU-vidMrPyeah, but any old companion could have done what Martha did! Rose became like a god and Donna became the Doctor so compared to them Martha was normal/average!
While the theme is unmistakenly Doctor Who, It trips over itself, has too much clutter and is generally a bit of a mess. I love Murrey Golds other interpretations and some of his musical themes rival the best of orchestral music for film scores - For instance: "The Shepherd's Boy" is a masterpiece. I don't know, perhaps it will grow on me, but I prefer Segun Akinola's to this.
15 abandons the traditional theme altogether. It sounds more like something that would be played in the middle of an episode. It suggests 15 will be a complete remake/reboot of the show. But 13 seemed like that anyways.
The new theme is alright for a celebration event temporarily in the 60th but as the brand new theme for series 14, 15 etc it’s way too bombastic and circusy. It’s just not really the best
