Doctor Who - The Smugglers 16mm Home Movie - Slowed

This is the 16mm home movie made during the location filming of the Doctor Who story, The Smugglers in June 1966. However, the footage tends to play too quickly at normal projection speed, so the footage has been slowed down by around 36% to produce a more natural movement.

Oh, this is just magical. Even on audio, this story has such a rich atmosphere... The visuals just take it to the next level.

I forgot this footage existed. By the way, I have some really poor quality 8mm footage of Shada. Was wondering if you guys would upload that film as well, since you clearly have access to the higher quality stuff.

We probably don't have any better copy of that than you do. The person who shot it isn't willing to let us use his cine footage on the Blu-ray Collections, as is his right.

Would the speed be consistent? When I used battery-powered ciné cameras, they'd slow down as filming progressed, if the battery was flat.

Usually they were pretty consistent. It was the cine cameras with clockwork motors that could be more problematic in that respect.

Yes. Hartnell was only on location the first day for the beach scenes and then had to return back to London for rehearsals on Episode 3 of The War Machines, that was recorded tw days after this film was shot.

@@MichaelM28 Sydney always had a fairly prominent moustache. You also wouldn't find the BBC's prestigious Head of Drama to be with a small Doctor Who film crew in Cornwall doing the armourer's job. :-)
