Chebon Toroitich Bekele’s track record proves the fact that he is the greatest distance runner of all-time. Kipchoge’s marathon record proves the fact that he’s the greatest marathon runner of all-time.
Chebon Toroitich kipchoge is more consistent over the marathon distance, but bekele has the talent to break his world record, he was literally seconds off it last year without even being in consistent form, kipchoge is consistent, bekele is more talented
Yea. Everything's relative tho I suppose. If you're used to getting 4th of 5th in a race, it'd be disappointing to get 6th or 7th. If you're accustomed to getting world records and wins as often as Bekele, I imagine that not getting one might just feel like a step back.
@@zuzanajacko873 if u look only at marathon, bekele and kipchoge are at an equal level, might be slight edge to kipchoge. But if you at all long distances races, bekele is undisputed king
Athens 2004. I was in the stadium. Kenenisa Bekele wins the race of 10000 meters; he just ran the last 400 meters in 53 seconds. Immediately after the race, he created an aisle along with other Ethiopian athletes inside the stadium, so that Haile Gebrselassie can pass through and go towards the section with the Ethiopian funs, who were cheering Gebre...Gebre...THAT IS WHY BEKELE BECAME THE BEST IN THE WORLD IN LONG DISTANCES RUNNING. HE RESPECTED HIS TEACHERS AND MENTORS LIKE Haile Gebrselassie. Kenenisa Bekele I fully respect you as a person and as an athlete. Thanks for inspiring us to implement running in our every day life.
Great comment. As an Ethiopian I can tell u Kenenisa sadly isn’t as much appreciated or hailed as the Greatest mainly because he’s always been under the shadow of the equally great Haile, who’s more charming, outspoken & involved in various public engagements. Kenenisa has always been a very shy, quiet, modest gentleman. He’s rarely in the media, has suffered a lot throughout his career, both in his private life & on track, but still keeps coming back strong. I honestly hope he finishes off his career with an Olympic Gold & WR in Marathon, which he is capable of if the stars align for him.
With all due respect to Eliud and all the others in the NN running Team. I think you show too little of Kenenisa Bekele. This movie was good and I look forward to the next one. Best regards from Norway
Agree, to be honest all though it was good, I would of appreciated a movie running up though his whole career from 2001 and including his personal struggles like his fiancée passing away in 2005 for example...
@@ethiopianismismydream8913 the main commend isn't even about Mo Farah, but since you asked. Mo Farah owns the Men's Two Mile indoor WR (8:03.40) 2015. Breaking Kenenisa Bekele's previous record of (8:04.34).
Great video finally a documentary about one of the greatest sports men of 21 century. I wish it’s a little longer but, most important how could they not mention about his Cross country career? This mans holds the record for most gold medals in the WXC history. Him winning short course 1 day and long course 24h later for 5 years straight. No mentioning of it ?
Undoubtedly the greatest distance runner of all time, but for some reason so often glossed over. Love his humble, soft spoken demeanour. A true professional and champion.
Would love to see him get that marathon wr. I don’t care if Eluid gets it back, but it’d be another awesome achievement to check off. He’s been so close twice now; 6 seconds off in 2016 and 2 in 2019!
Quite simply put, a Phenomenal Athlete. His achievements are quite astounding for both pro-runners and amateur runners. One thing that everyone needs to learn from African athletes is their Humility and Positivity in life despite having proved through magnanimous achievements in a sport they have dedicated their entire life to..!!.
Why do I find this man so likeable? All I really know about him is he’s one of greatest distance runners ever and the sound of his voice and facial expressions in these rare interviews he does.
Bekele is a legend. There is no doubt about it yet, and I will not be disappointed at all, not even a world record. Literally I am waiting for this because all you know he is a legend
This man has one more world record left in him and that is the marathon before he retires. His track records will be unbeaten for a long time. Kenenisa is without a doubt the greatest of all time. Much respect to the Ethiopians, Kenyans, and Ugandans.
I think there is that distance running at any level for those that pursuit it over years is a pretty profound philosophical experience. At the level these guys at which these guys operate, I suspect they get to learn a lot about themselves and about the world through the discipline and reflection that the endeavour requires. Both Bekele and Kipchoge regularly refer to the marathon as being like life, with its highs and lows, setbacks and triumphs. For me, it is the clear depth of character in Kipchoge and Bekele that is so impressive. What you are seeing with them is in some sense 'real'. By comparison success on the sprinting side seems to come from bravado and individualism. There isn't much time for reflection when sprinting 100m. Being alone with your thoughts on a 40km long run takes you to places in your head. There is a wisdom to the distance guys that feels fundamentally human.
well sprinting is much like weightlifting, many of us cant even get close to what they achieve. At the end of the day sprinting is a highly technical sport where faction of a second matter between gold and silver. They have to train all the weights and squats to build up the explosive power. Marathon running is a approachable sport where we just need to lace up running shoes and we can start training. Sub 3hours is a very realistic goal for non professional athletics.
@@axleblaze123 oh please an approachable sport? You have any idea the insane endurance the runners have? Especially the Kenyans and Ethiopians. To be able to run long distances in carzy times? Imagine running 25 laps on the track and then sprint to finish.. also imagine sprinting after over 2 hours of running... Long distance running by far requires the ultimate test of endurance
Greatest long distance runner of all time - even more dominant than Gebrselassie on the track and cross country, more versatile than Kipchoge - yet hardly anyone outside of the athletics community knows him (and, in contrast to the other two, most of his life is a blank to the ones who do). How there aren't any proper documentaries or books about him is beyond me.
Great legend. I think not much to say about kenenisa. First time l watched him in Athens we all knew he was untouchable. I am 55 years old distance runner I would like to Thank to Kenenisa for the great memories.
It is great to see more of Kenenisa documentaries. Great strategy on his behalf to start sharing more of his ups and down with the world. I can't wait for the showdown between Kenenisa and Kipchoge. Two classic and super talented athletes of the generation in my opinion:)
No matter what type of run: track, indoor, road running or cross country, Bekele can do them all. He is the best distance runner of all time. Can't wait to see him in future marathons/half marathons.
I started getting interested into running just this year and everyone was all Kipchoge. I would argue that he is the king today. But people often overlook Bekele who is just as great. I just think that Bekele wasn't that famous because social media didn't exist in his prime years. All respects to Bekele and Kipchoge! Best athletes of their times. I just wish I could achieve my full marathon soon. I am truly inspired by them.
I like that he is proud of his achievements and knows who he is. One of, if not the best long-distance runner of all times. But at the same time he is not completely over the top and still seems to be a thankful and humble guy!
14:30 Thankyou Kenenisa for motivating me to continue running and achieving my goals even after injuries that sidelined me for years and people telling me distance running is not for me.
Never give up! You'll come back stronger! Stay calm, relax and before starting longdistance running again, you should check your muscles and function completly. And last tip-> Focus on what you eat! Drink enough tea and take black seed oil!!!
With all due respect to all the great distance runners, Bekele is the greatest of all time. He has proven to be the superior athlete on track and if u take cross country into consideration its not even close. Given time nad health he will dominate the marathon too.
Kenenisa forever the hero. We will always be grateful and cherish the ever young Kenenisa. The Lionheart from 2004 is still here and will always beIn the press conference after the race Kenenisa said he doesn't just want to break the record but in the future do MORE AND BETTER THINGS THAN THAT. no doubt he will come back stronger
No doubt, to deal with our minds upto this level one need to be philosopher.... Loosing by exertions and keeping moral high takes alot of self discussion.... These athletes are highly disciplineed.
He seems smart; I really like his reasoning about how he would not be surprised if his world records are broken today due to the revolution that running shoes have gone through and other running equipment.
@@waterproof4403 you’re right, in my opinion that record from cheptegei shouldn’t count just as kipchoge’s sub 2 hours marathon. That is not a race. Bekele hit that record in an actual race. And it makes me think that the new record holder didn’t manage to win the 10k at the olympics. Bekele was on another level in his prime
@@AR36gfexactly my friend! Please do through a quick check in this video. It shows both kenenisa and Cheptegei’s runs in the 10k side by side. You will see how clearly how Cheptegei’s got an advantage ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zqyU6rSBkqw.html
@@waterproof4403 thank you, I saw the video. It’s kinda sad to me to watch cheptegei record breaking, with no spectators, in an empty arena, with no actual race, without the pacers being worth mentioning on their bibs. I still consider this an experiment, not an actual sporting accomplishment, yet to be achieved. Cheptegei is surely a talent, and he should aim to break the record in an actual competition
he is the best and humble, simply he is the best runner that i always thought he could win if he is running along with Tirunesh!!! long life to my hero!!
I had no idea Kenesisa's English got this good. He is an extremely humble champion. Indeed on of the best long distance runners of all all time. A true living legend.
Dont really know why but i feel like in last years Kenenisa has not been seen as what he is, the greatest runner in history. Is clear that Kipchoge has performed better at the moment in marathon but is also truth that just two seconds separate both of them while Bekele's achieves on track and the WXC are a step above everyone else .
I am a fan of Bekele, but it will be unfair to attribute credit to him on the roads based on his track career - the two are different not just by turf but by distance also. Just for a moment imagine that he never ran a single mile on the track, would you make the same statement? Now, you can easily say Eliud earns credit on the roads for his achievements thus far. If someone was to come close to Bekele's record on the track, we wouldn't rush to immediately want to crown him, but will insist he not only breaks the record, but sustains a commendable streak of dominance as well, before we mix them in the same breath. So is Bekele the greatest runner? Bolt equally has a commendable streak and records over two different races and does Daniel Komen and others. Maybe you are talking about distance? If so where does that begin? 5000? You would be running the risk of narrowing parameters to favor your case. So who is Bekele? I would say someone that is legendary over the 5k and 10k distances. We will not give him the Marathon yet, until he earns that credit. Now, he can never create a good streak because of age, he might maybe break a record, but I doubt the record might stand for long if he does, especially with the form of Kipchoge, who is younger. So if we look at things with a bit more detail and take out the emotions, we aren't so quick to cry foul over Bekele's due credit in the eyes of people - I believe he has been given the credit he deserves so far.
@@denisitele Sorry i meant best distance runner. I am not gonna discuss what is distance running as this is not something scientific so it is impossible to agree on it, I believe the majority of us understand that distances above 2 or 3 km is what we refer to by distance running. I think everyone would agree in the fact that is ridiculous to compare Bolt and Bekele, even though i forgot the word "distance"... If someone would come really close to Bekele's records in 5000 or 10000 m I would say exactly what I have said, that just X seconds separate both of them. According to you we can never state that someone is the best distance runner, we can just stick to specific races, "he is the best over 10000 m" or "he is the best in half- marathon" , that is a very comfortable position but some of us dont want to stick just to the obvious things. I wrote the comment as I have seen lots of others around youtube stating that Farah is the best distance runner, or that Kipchoge is the best distance runner, and it is not something sporadical but more generalised that what I could thought, and I just dont agree with that state and that is why I say that I think that Bekele has been underrated these last years. If you want to discuss why you do or do not think he is the best at that level is perfectly okay. If you just want to state clear things of course I am gonna agree with you on Bekele being a legendary runner (probably the best) in 5000 m and 10000 m and the same with Kipchoge on marathon.
@@gonzalogonzalez587 Of course I do not make the claim that Farah or Kipchoge are the best distance runners. Whoever chooses to make those kinds of brazen claims will definitely be called on to justify. It is not ridiculous to also compare Bolt and Bekele - most fans of distance running usually have this habit of sneering at the sprints, when they do have their unique challenges and injuries are equally as commonplace there. Can you therefore give me your reasons for considering Bekele "the greatest distance runner"?
@@denisitele When I said it is ridiculous to compare Bolt and Bekele it was not as a way of underrating sprint running, it is just because I think they are two completly different sports. In fact I think If we make the effort of forget that and try to give out the greatest sportman in the whole bunch of sports inside athletics, Bolt would have a pretty serious right to claim it. Anyway as I dont want to flood this my opinion matches a lot with this article tonireavis.com/2018/09/18/who-is-the-g-o-a-t/ which by the way doesnt even mention Bekeles WXC titles.
K. Bekele : Marathon is not about tactic. But its about Preapare mentaly, physically, focus, maintaining, training, determination, passion and love of the game. =Legendary=
