The long run is one of the most iconic training sessions out there. Why do we do it? What goes on in the minds of our athletes? Join Eliud Kipchoge, Kenenisa Bekele, Geoffrey Kamworor, Joshua Cheptegei and others for an inside view!
"Everybody is free, in long runs you don't have captains, we don't have bosses but we have leaders and we expect everybody to be a leader in his own capacity and to be in charge of the long run. We don't train people to perform or finish long runs but we train people to be human beings when they are running around" -Eliud Kipchoge.
This quote really stood out for me. Don't train people to be great endurance runners. Train them to be human beings, the success in running will come. Fantastic.
14:54 "Sometimes it's foggy, and running inside fog is sometimes fun. Because when you are running uphill you don't see it, you are just running, and then all of a sudden you are past the hill." Great metaphor, even if he didn't mean it
@@michaelrezak1155 there will be moments in life where you feel lost (foggy), like all the things you've been doing are for nothing. But you have to keep moving forward, even if it feels like your goal is out of your reach and you've not been making any progress (when you are running uphill you don't see it). You have to endure the process, make it fun. When it's fun, it's easier to keep going and when you expect it the least you've already overcome the obstacles, you've already reached your objective (all of a sudden you are past the hill). When you reach the top of the hill everything will be clear and you will know that your efforts have paid off. This is how I interpreted it, open to hear other analysis
Bekele is really a phenomenon, how he managed to stay on top for that long while training alone. He must have a mindset and a deeper motivation like no other athlete.
All the best brother I had also been in depression and now alhamdulillah by the grace of Allah swt ...started running and is expecting to progress gradually with the help of ALLAH swt.... Remember"consistency is greater than perfection"
1:50 I laughed when he said some athletes without mileage start having problems at 35 to 40 kilometers.... I have problems immediately the race starts😂😂
I LOVE these runner's work ethic. They have EVERYTHING you would want in an elite level runner: genetics, drive, discipline, passion. Their environment is great, also; very simple living, no distractions, elevation, great coaches and, great team members.
I’m 65 yrs. old, only running 9 mos. I could watch a full documentary movie like this, from discovery to mental training to physical training, with the Olympics as a finish. What a bunch of warriors!
Im not a runner..bt to keep myself fit..i run 5k in 26 minutes..i run in morning 6:15 Am..bt the hardest part is to get myself out of the bed..and best part is when i finish my 5k..that feeling is awesome.
"I can say long run is like life. Because you go up and down feeling like you are having a lot of challenges." - Kipchoge, the philosopher What an absolute legend.
@@firefightergtx3281lazy ass , that’s not a joke , that’s the hardest thing it take tremendous amount of energy nd mental will to be able to run that much distance in short period of time
"We don't have captains, we don't have bosses, we have leaders, and we expect everyone to be a leader in their own capacity.." - Kipchoge What an inspiration. Kipchoge is so intelligent. You can tell he is a master at uniting very intelligent/competitive individuals to form a supergroup/superteam to cohesively work together rather than clash. This approach is incredibly useful if you want a group/team to be successful especially if they are extremely talented and competitive.
Man I wish I could train with them. They are so motivated and there is no ifs and buts, they go for it. They are serious about it. Their life revolves around running. I love running, every free time I have, I would live it by running.
I’m a casual runner and this was more than just running motivation.. this was life changing wisdom.. very blessed my ears were able to take this in and my mind was able to comprehend for a better outcome in life and worldview.
yeah and fresh air, altitude, top-notch sponsor equipment, group support, coaching, naturally light bodies, simple food, massage therapists, a realistic chance to win money in world marathons and half-marathons and all of this while training in a stress-free environment. Give me a break. The real heroes are the legions of 9 to 5 office workers breathing smog every day yet training for a marathon they know they can't possibly win.
@@giovanbattistafichera8439 Do you realize those folks are "professional athletes" - like any other profession in the World - so their "duty" is to "train professionally" to earn their money in their "chosen profession"? I'm a professional in engineering who happens to like running - yet I don't compared myself to them nor I considered me a hero because I train for a marathon on my own with the limited time I have while envying them for the opposite - to the contrary - I find inspiration in their "values, discipline, commitment, resilience, team work values" - all those things inherited in every single human being on the planet - they just happen to embracing and embody them in running.
Giovanbattista Fichera Give it a rest! You could have all that and still wouldn’t have the guts, dedication or drive to run a marathon in sub 2 hours. And neither would I. That’s not an insult or criticism, it it just a fact. It requires exceptional commitment and dedication to train like this, live like this and practice as a pro athlete like this. It’s not for everyone and most definitely not for the faint hearted. Just say well done and keep it moving. No need for negative energy.
Im amazed by this video, what runners, what such landscapes, what amazing views, what amazing place to run, i'd love to run in a place like this with that great people
I have a 13km route from home to work which from time to time I ride on my bike a normal trekking bike with cycling paddles but only use them on the weekend and my average time is 3:30 - 3:40 per KM and even when I am riding on the weekend I have a 35KM route I ride frequently and avarage only 3:00 - 3:10 with peak 5KM speed of 2:45 - 2:55 per KM. And that with cycling shoes. That pace they are running is truly incomprehensible for me. My biggest respect to them.
I’m an indigenous scholar from Mexico, I just started running because it is helping me so much with my mental health (and definitely my physical health). I decided to start running my whole life because I am more happier and I love running. I used to run when I was in high school, but I stopped because I started school. The point is, your video is really inspiring me on continuing my journey. Thank you!
Eliud Kipchoge is inspiration for 21st century youth, I started running 1-2 months back... initial days, it was tough, I mean very tough couldn't run even 1-1.5 km easily...but it starts improving for continuous training..now I can run 5-7 km. The problem is everyday we start running, its never so easy but when cross barrier of 2-3 km, it becomes easy for continue run for next 7-8 km nd... Running is the mother of all exercises and Workout.
ELUID KIPCHOGE...... iam from german ,i watched the Berlin run on TV, You are a great role model for all your compatriots, humane and sincere You are a great role model for all your compatriots, humane and sincere .......... a lot of respect and admiration, greetings from Germany Marlene
Its such an honour to have gotten a chance to train with these great athletes at Kaptagat(global) especially or rather in long runs and speed work is such an amazing experience ever😍💪
I dont think people understand how physically fit these guys are. They are literally.....super-humans. Their endurance is at a level most humans will never even get close to. Not only the physical, but their attitude towards life is truly inspiring.
"We respect each other, nobody is big, nobody is small' that pretty much nails it. Too much is about the ego, sometimes sport too, while it actually shouldn't be. Sport should always be about something deeper: in order to achieve a sense of achievement yes, but not in order to feel superior than another human being.
I've run for about 24 years on and off. I ran the 1500 and the mile. The longest race I used to run was 10K road races for strength training. I can only imagine the strength and endurance needed to run a 40 K long run. Their pace looks any where from 5:30 to 4:45 mile pace. These are world class runners. This vid is a great teaching tool for all distance running.
All i want to do is run. And inspire my children to run track&field. I have no doubt my middle child will keep the pace. My son is a wide receiver and hes fast as hell. I always lift them up to achieve the greatness thats inside all of us. My son pushes me to run the Boston Marathon in 2023.
As an Ethiopian I always proud of our Great Athletes like the first black African Marathon Hero ABEBE BIKILA to win in his bare foot. Following his foot steps Haile G.Sillassie,Mamo Wolde, Mirutsifter, Kenenisa Bekele,Derartu Tulu,Tirunesh Dibaba,Meseret Defar.......the list is limitless. ....Our Kenyan Brother and Sister athletes has been with us sharing and celebrating those moments as we do on the other hand. Let's keep on doing together and celebrate our victory as an African brother and sister.
A very educational clip, I am watching it for the umpteenth time now. The principles these elite athletes outlined here can actually be applied to any pursuit in life. As Eliud Kipchoge put it, 'Marathon is life.'
this is an inspiring video, it just came up into my recommended RU-vid videos and I happen to have a long run tomorrow morning. When it comes to athletes, I believe long distance runners are on the top pyramid of any sport. It is amazing how their bodies work and endure these mileages at incredible pace. At the same time, they are very humble and doing this sport in the simplest way possible. I have true respect and admiration toward them all.
this is really the most beautiful video ive ever watched. im literally crying rn watching it. the music.. the team bonds. seeing them run that long im crying omg this violin too!
Eliud Kipchoge is not just a world class but also wise. He is one of those who understand their sport. They don't just dream, they are really serious about it.
If you can run 1k 3:10 pace, you can always join a pro running club and you will have a squad that will motivate you! You need running squad than can push you but at the same time, is not tremendously overwhelm, nor under perform you in term of endurance and strength!
These athletes have my respect for all the effort and passion they put on what they do. It's amazing and admirable their mindsets, how organized and respectful they are at training, and of course at competition :D
They are not talking only about the runners but they are talking about all those students, all those people who wants change in their lives, who wants to achieve their goals in life.... You know what, I started running back in 2008 went i was just in class 6th only 11 years old, but I got a direction now at the age of 27 in 2024... I started to plan for a half marathon and I didn't participated due to my serious sickness but I got recovered in 3weeks and then started exercises and running after 5 years which I Left back in 2019... But I got not only the lessons for running but I got life lessons....❤❤❤❤ A big Respect to them I big salute to them... ❤❤❤
