Documentary 'Looking for Love' filmed in Khau Vai, Vietnam by Keith Halstead and John Watson.
This was shot in March 2004 in northern Vietnam, near the border with China. The film was privately funded by Keith Halstead and John Watson. I know the subtitles are not 100% accurate, but we did the best we could with limited resources we had available and I think the film provides an accurate insight into Love Market itself and the lives of the people who live in and around Khau Vai.

Keith, mate this is mesmerizing. The singing that rings through the mountains. I've only heard it a few times whilst out there in the countryside. It vibrates right through you. Amazing. Great film. Great job. Well done.

This courtship culture has been practiced for hundreds of years. My grandparents went through the same process back in the 1940’s.

Thanks for the great video. However, the pronunciation is incorrect on Hmong. It’s not Ha-mong...The H is silent (Mong)

It seem to me that the song when some Hmong girls sitting on the mountain the film maker used the Muong song not Hmong song. I heard some Muong words in this song and it is the Muong rhythm music.

Its Hmong. I know the "H" is silent but it Not Her-mong. Pronounce right? I hate it when Meeka says her-mong. Its Hmong Not Her-Mong or Mong.

7:55-8:10 For us, we didn't kidnap. At the love market, we would ask the girl nicely and they would come willingly. If she came willingly, we would offer tribute to her parents. 8:21-8:39 Some don't cry. For the couples that genuinely liked each other, the girl wouldn't cry. If she was forced, you would see the guy dragging her while she is kicking and screaming/crying. If a girl agreed to go, for us brothers, we wouldn't hesitate, "Let's go!" (joking) 11:13-11:23 The girls don't really know how to "go steady" with the boys. They just select the one they think is nice and get married. A little bit more accurate than the subtitles.

That’s how the Vietnamese pronounce it. During my high school days, that’s how my closest Vietnamese friends called us too. Not sure why they say the “Ha”. That’s another topic to ask around.

Doesn’t matter. If it is incorrect then it is incorrect. Correct the pronunciation when you hear it.

The Western media so stupid, most of its content is incorrect including the pronunciation of the Hmong. And this one is included. Washing UTube is like looking for a diamond in the big dump trash whole. UTube just the biggest money machine for the rubbish ads. Good effort and technical, the next one is better I hope.
