I've also been fat pretty much my whole life and never felt full. I remember being envious of people who feel full 😁 However, about 2 years ago I was diagnosed with high blood pressure at the age of 30 which scared me a lot! I started counting calories, prioritizing protein, fiber, and basically eating the hunger crushing combo for every meal. I lost 55 lbs in a little over a year. It was not easy at all, but after that, I slowely increased my calories and I've been maintaining a healthy weight for almost a year now. I can confidently say that I feel full now about 70-80% of the times and I don't have to count calories anymore. I completely understand that this method might not be possible and might not work for a lot of people, but I wanted to share my experience. Good luck everybody!

Thanks for your story, I also don’t feel fullness or hunger cues. I am glad to hear you have been able to sensitize yourself to these cues, as I am on other meds and I don’t want to add more, but need to lose weight due to health concerns. I was going to go the route you did, so it was good to hear it can be successful.

i experienced the same, been fat since 4yo, was always hungry ate a lot but food never gave me energy and never felt satisfyed, i could always eat more. I have been counting calories but more than that i have been lookign at the ration of carbs, fats and protein, and fibre, and have been exercisng regularly and also being mindfull of why i feel hunger, because its not always physical. I have to say prioritizing proteins especially and exercise has helped me a lof wiht finally getting those hunger/fullness cues, feeling energized from food and feeling good in my body, and of course lost a lot of excess wheight. Its slow but it's very worth it

100% it clearly has results. I just wish it wasn’t being abused, especially by celebrities who can afford other means of weight loss. It’s become such a trend amongst the rich, that there are people who have barely any money to get by who can’t access a medication they NEED for diabetes because it’s now being overprescribed for first resort weight loss as opposed to other steps being taken first. Meanwhile the Kardashians allegedly use this medication while having access to personal trainers, dietitians, surgeons, doctors, home gyms etc.

The part of the video that really flipped the switch for me was Ginger's experience with not ever feeling full/satiated. I experience this every since often, especially if I'm in an active weight loss period, and I cannot fathom how exhausting/discouraging it is for that to be her norm. I didn't even consider something like these fullness cues to be a physical issue that Ozempic could aid in.

That's what insulin resistance does because your calories are being inappropriately partitioned to fat storage and the liver instead of to muscles and other organs where it's needed. The person is being functionally starved. In all the hype about weight loss, people don't realise that Ozempic actually helps so much with IR independent of weight loss.

I recently went on ADHD medication, and I've noticed a HUGE change insofar that I actually have fullness cues now. Yes, it does decrease my appetite, but it also helps me to not stim with food which I think was the main reason I had such a bad relationship with food in the first place. Not needing the comfort of food now because of being on the correct medication has changed so much of my life. I would love to know more about the role of food in stimming and ADHD workarounds for this

I started Ozempic in mid-December 2022 and then switched to Wegovy at the end of May 2023 (my insurance stopped covering Ozempic). From mid-December through today, I've lost 20 pounds, or just over 10% of my weight - and I just started the 1.7mg dose 3 weeks ago. My side effects are mild. Some mild nausea for the first few days after the injection (not all the time) and constipation witch I am managing with more water and fiber. But the best part is this medication is helping to fix my insulin resistance. I can't believe how well this is working for me. I had lost 80 pounds the old fashioned way 15 years ago, but now I am 51 and starting perimenopause. It's way harder to move the scale. This medication is changing the game for me.

Really interesting video! Many thanks to Ginger for wanting to share her journey! I was not aware that Ozempic can help people get in touch with their hunger cues! That's wonderful and now I totally understand how this could help sooooo many people. When I first learned about this I was worried that people would use this as a 'now I can eat whatever I want and have no consequences' thing. However if this helps people connect with their body's signals, this is actually an amazing tool for people to take back control of their relationship with food. I am already excited for the next part!

I totally relate to so many parts of her story. I was put in weight watchers as a kid as well, also struggled with mixed signals related to food, a parent that heavily restricted and commented frequently on her body. And I totally feel her on the no fullness cues. Basically my entire life I never feel full unless I feel sick, doesn’t matter how slow I eat. I started Ozempic 2 months ago and also started really trying intuitive eating and eating at regular intervals and wow. The difference in my hunger cues in just 2 months is insane. I haven’t noticed much weightloss but my primary reason for starting was for my T2D anyway so I’m okay with the minimal change I’ve seen in my actual weight so far

I've been out of the loop for a little over a year with your content and videos, but since getting introduced to this medication, I've been curious to see your reaction to it. I'm so pleased that you've come at it with a level-head and evidence-based perspective, and I loved this discussion as well! I work for a medical practice that uses this tool as well as others drugs in this class alongside taking a deep look into each patient's history and metabolic panel to make sure their as healthy along this journey as they can be (as well as making sure that this medication is necessary, since our provider isn't going to put someone without medically-relevant obesity on this medication). I hear so many testimonies from patients about how well this medication has done for them and I think it's been a major blessing. The amount of effort we put in isn't universally shared by all the practices that prescribe this medication, though, and I find it very frustrating. From the education I have creating educational materials surrounding this, I love that Ginger's healthcare team first prescribed metformin for her insulin sensitivity and then informed her about this medication thoroughly, making sure she knows all the steps on the way. From her testimony here, I don't know if her large amount of diarrhea is from the Ozempic alone so much as it's from that combined with the gallbladder removal, caffeine intake, and maybe a little of being on metformin. Most patients don't have it that bad so early, but all those things together? Wow, I feel for her poor intestines! Personally, I am also on this medication due to my family history that is similar to Ginger's, history of weight gain, failed diet attempts, and insulin resistance. I'm very pleased with how much it has helped my health journey, especially mentally, as I can finally hear hunger cues and don't feel so reactive to the feeling of hunger to the point it affects my mood. My experience is that eating highly fat-rich foods like fried or processed foods will trigger diarrhea, but staying towards healthier fats in smaller amounts like an olive oil dressing to a tabouli salad (personal favorite) or a little cheese in a whole wheat sandwitch doesn't seem to trigger any ill affect (given I can digest lactose). Another is that our clinic and my provider both put patients on B12 shot or supplement while on this medication, since there is a diminished gastric absorption with Ozempic. I imagine her healthcare team is already on top of it, though, given how thorough they've been with her fertility labs. No doubt, your advice to her will help incredibly, since all the things you've said in this video are tips I give patients when they talk to me about it. I'm excited to see her honest journey and I'm thankful for your refreshing outlook on this medication! This aspiring future physician appreciates the work you're doing.

What I don't hear enough people talking about is the rebound effects that happen afterwards. For 3 to 6 months coming off you are ravenously hungry. It's like SSRIs you've numbed your receptors so much that once the drug stops they go into overdrive for a while. There really needs to be more research on how to taper off the drug without undoing all the work you did.

I do OMAD. I have been doing this for about 3 years, roughly. There are some days I will eat twice or even 3x. I do not know the full concept of Ozempic, but the stomach does shrink when you eat less. Feeling full would come much sooner. I have never felt ravenously hungry. Obviously my initial buildup to OMAD was a bit challenging, but I took it slow increasing my fasting window every 2 weeks until I reached the OMAD. While I did feel hungry, it was never ravenous. That is supposed to be the concept of bariatric surgery. Shrinking the stomach to get full sooner with not less food, but with the real food quantity your body actually needs.
@wwaxwork
@wwaxwork Год назад
@@lm3729 The rebound apparently can basically mean you never feel full. Sure your stomach may have "shrunk" but the part of your brain that goes "full now" doesn't register. From what research I've read it's not every case or as bad for every person but still the fact it happens is worrying. Also you can't shrink your stomach, without surgery anyway. All that happens is you recondition the neurons in your stomach to register fullness sooner.

We discussed today what the process will look like once my blood sugar is fully under control and I've lost some more weight. While I was thin as a child/young adult I did have a similar home life as Ginger of "eat everything on your plate", even falling asleep at the table because I had to sit there for hours until I ate all my food. Then we'd be treated to honey buns, candy bars and cokes for being "good". I just finished week 10 on Ozempic moving up to 1mg next. Thankfully I've had very little side effects, fatigue, headache on day of shot but those both are much better. I've lost 10 pounds but even better my A1c has gone from 7.7 to 6.7, and I can tell in how much better I feel. My absolute favorite thing about Ozempic is that I can now tell when I'm full, it's been 20+ years since I've had that feeling without being so stuffed I would throw up.

I appreciate this video on SO MANY LEVELS; this is one of the only Ozempic videos I can relate to! After many failed diet attempts, I got my diabetes diagnosis back in November, with an uncontrolled A1C of 11.4. Both my doctor (started seeing them in September) and I believe I had uncontrolled diabetes for 1.5 years with all the symptoms I told her I was experiencing. Luckily, with some lifestyle changes and just metformin use, I got my A1Cs down to 6.2. My doctor and I decided to add Ozempic into the mix back in February so I can focus on making more lifestyle shifts so I can focus on a long-term goal of not needing medication for my diabetes management. It's been about three weeks on the full mg dose now, and it's changed my approach to food. Going from constantly being hungry back in November, to hardly wanting to eat now and practically having to force myself to eat to maintain my sugars. It's been a drastic shift in my life, but now I feel like I'm at a point where I can build back better habits than what I had before.

I was small, but I was still a “healthy” weight. My psychologist told me I “looked good” but found the process “concerning” and that I “should cease the behaviour” 😑

If it’s still an occurrence I would recommend going to an eating disorder specialist to get properly diagnosed and the help you need. I also started purging (induced vomiting) randomly without any set pattern and I didn’t think it was appropriate to call it bulimia since I thought I had control of it. Until I didn’t. I suffered from bulimia for nearly 7 years and (for me) it became a compulsion that I experienced on a daily basis (dare I say “addiction”) and the only way I managed to recover was with an eating disorder specialist and the support of my friends and husband.

Just FYI because I know you have IBS interests. I have had great weightloss results with saxenda, but the huge coincidence is that is cured one of my IBS diagnosis’s (Bile Acid Malabsorption). There are now studies supporting semaglutide and Liraglutide for BAM, 70% of Liraglutide participants report a reduction in symptoms which includes urgent D, like no time to get to a bathroom D. This will change lives for BAM sufferers, most of us live with PTSD type anxiety and some people are complete housebound because they have to be near a bathroom at all times.

I LOVE not thinking and obsessing over food I feel like it’s training me to eat normal portions in the long run. People that I know that also takes it have told me they still eat what they want but I have cleaned my diet up so much since being on it I don’t even care for greasy fatty foods at all anymore. I really love that I don’t have to eat so much to feel full. I feel like it’s improved my mental health if I’m being honest. A friend and I are both on our own ozempic journey. Some context. My friend is morbidly obese, she weighs 110 kls and is her height is around 1.58 meters, and she’s been obese her whole life. I’m on the low scale obesity (is that a thing?) my SW was 73 kls and my height is 1.54 meters. And I was thin my whole 50 kls on average) life except for around 3 years due to psych meds making me gain a lot of weight. She started ozempic 3 months ago and has lost roughly 5 kls, I started a month and a half ago and have lost around 2 kls and a half. Well my experience has been a real roller coaster of gastrointestinal issues. Until last week I had severe constipation, I took laxatives but they hardly did anything. I could be a whole week without going to the bathroom, despite eating mostly vegetables and drinking lots of water. However this week I had the worst diarrhea in ages, I just went to the bathroom at least 8 times a day. I lost 1,5 kls in 2 days!! Which by no means is a healthy weight loss. Only today I’m feeling better, I avoided fruit and vegetables and any fiber these last few days also. The side effects are becoming unbearable, despite the good results. Without considering the weight lost due to diarrhea, I have lost around 3 kls since starting ozempic, and 4 cms on my belly Also I no longer have a double chin, and I dropped a size on my clothes so I now fit on my older clothes. I gained my self-esteem back. But the side effects are awful, so it makes me wonder if the sacrifice is worth the results.

Hi Abbey I’m not too sure which comment section to ask this question in…I recently started a seizure medication (Topiramate) and nausea, weight loss and suppressed appetite are all unwanted side effects. Do you have any advice for how to avoid losing weight or how to approach eating when you really don’t feel like eating? It’s honestly like I forget to eat - and when I think about it it makes me feel sick. I’m not super thin but don’t need to lose weight and above all don’t want to become malnourished through neglecting to eat properly. It’s actually really strange territory. And a little scary that I can’t find much info - all search results so far come up for how to lose weight not how to avoid it.

Exactly.. I currently am what you would consider super morbidly obese... def. think that it's so much easier to learn to feel fullness than to actually learn to identify hunger (by making sure the combo is there at the meal). I get true physical hunger where my stomach growls only about once a month? I eat on a clock schedule (about every 3 to 4 hours) because the only other symptom of hunger I get is when I start to get anxious or feel like I'm about to pass out so eating on the clock is just about the only thing that prevents me from going too far on the hunger scale before eating.

One day I get nauseous, another couple I get dreadful indigestion & nothing works to relieve it, I may get an upset stomach along with the nausea. Yes my blood sugar is better, I’m not eating a lot (which I never did anyway) I’m not taking my insulin as regularly due to not eating, I try to cook but the will isn’t there. The Wegovy website says that *there will be shortages until AT LEAST September.* She only lost about 1-2lbs that first month. After being off it for about a week she was *constantly hungry.* She realized that Wegovy only works as long as you're taking it. She spent a lot of time in the bathroom too. It's the extreme rebound hunger once she discontinued using it that has made her decide not to continue. As she said "why lose the weight if i'm just going to put it back on once I'm done with it?" Can you explain why people who get off ozempic often gain the weight back? I would think that when you’ve been eating less during a couple of months, your stomach get somewhat used to it. So when you get off ozempic it might be easier to eat ‘normal’ portions of food that keep you in maintenance. Or does your body ‘suddenly realize’ that you’ve been starving yourself (compared to your normal diet) so it kicks up your appetite?
@katelijnesommen
@katelijnesommen Год назад
Yes, it seems the suppressed appetite really returns with a vengeance after coming off it. I do suppose your stomach will be smaller but if you're disproportionately hungry then you will quickly undo that effect unless you are able (which is incredibly hard when experiencing hunger like that) to not eat according to the cravings.
@musicalconnie6216
@musicalconnie6216 Год назад
I'm guessing it's because Ozempic doesn't fix any underlying issues. Once someone stops taking it they'll have a slower metabolism (due to weight and muscle loss) and their body will be telling them that it's starving.

It is so upsetting to never feel full-only pain once my stomach is distended but IM STILL hungry. It’s why I could fully do intuitive eating. I agree with the theory once I’m feeling my cues.
