Awesome video! But everyone else doing this one thing I ask you all to do is to go ahead and when first starting the joint take off the other 2 caps you aren't pressing! It'll avoid an "oh shit" moment trust me! The last thing u want to do is be about done with the job and go to do the last press and all of the sudden u hear a thud! Or even worse not hearing it at all and you go to swing the shaft around or whatever to realize wait where did the cap for that one go?! Been there done that lol no need to have em on and make yourself struggle holding them all. Just take em off and do it one at a time you will thank yourself later
Thanks man! I usually take them all off but alot of the spicer joints stay locked on till you pull them off for the first time. Usually takes a large screw driver to get them off for the first time.
Quick question...this is on a 3rd gen, do you have u-joint numbers and cardon ball and seat numbers for a 4th gen? Got an 11' & a 13' that need some work...
Sure don't! You can get part numbers from the dealership and compare them to aftermarket like Spicer. Rockauto.com has the aftermarket part number with the dealership part number so its easy to match.
Thanks for posting this. How did you know this joints needed replacing? On my '99, every now and then in 4wd only I'll get a 'clunk' and you can feel it through the whole truck. I just replaced the other driveline U joints and center joint. Not sure if the clunk is from the front driveshaft or my transfercase chain is getting stretched. 230,000 miles and all are original. thx!
If there is movement between the ujoint ends and the inside of the caps then you need to replace the ujoints. The clunk could also be backlash play in the ring a pinion. Hope the clunk is ujoints in your case.
What repair manual says this? I went to school and thats the way we was taught. Also all my repair manuals show to melt the plastic out. All driveshaft shops melt them out. Just curious but if you are convinced you know the correct way then why do you need to watch my video?
Wrong. Torch is exactly what the dealership said to do. And a machine shop confirmed that. What a stupid comment. It's not even hot enough to affect tempering.
Where did you get the parts for this rebuild? I have both U joints but can't for the LIFE of my find a kit for the centering ball, seal, and rubber sleeve. I'm in Saskatchewan Canada. 03 4x4 2500 cummins. 6 Speed manual.
All ujoints and centering ball you can find at rockauto.com. Rubber sleeve is a dealership item. You will find the CV ball kit under drivetrain section then go to Universal ball kit. Let me know if you have problems finding it and I will help you. I dont know if you guys have advance auto parts up there but they carry that ball kit as well. Let me know when you find or dont find one.
@@isolateddieselperformance3261 Thanks, I found it on Rockauto which ships to Canada. I'm not sure its worn out, it's mostly just the U joints but I want to be sure I have access to parts. Appreciate the reply!
It's better to replace it while you are in there. Would suck if the cv ball went out a month later and u had to take the new ujoints out to get to it and take a risk of damaging them. If you need anything else let me know brother.
