The Dodges from eighties and nineties have transmission problems. Means you can get them cheap on Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. My last two Dodges, Dodgezilla 1500 and the Dakota both 1994's cost $600 and $500. My mechanic Ruben at Colorado Transmission knows you have to Overkill, over build Dodge automatics. The Dakota has a good body, 4x4 and 318 V-8. When it's done, I have a daily driver for years to come. Ruben my mechanic at coloradotrans.com/ (970) 356-0600

Great to see the 91-96 model dakota getting some love and attention. I've owned a 95 club cab v6 2wd slt for 16 years It's got an automatic transmission unfortunately but it's got over 210,000 miles with no rebuild or problems. Even more astounding is almost no body rust and only surface rust on the frame. And I live in the north east! Most reliable truck I've ever had

I have a 95 with 149K miles. 318 and automatic. When i got it the transmission was bad. It did cost $3500 to get the transmission rebuilt and upgraded. Its a great truck. Excellent condition and can be driven daily. No rust. Two wheel drive but here in Naples Florida thats all i need. Extended cab as well. Ive made a few trips to Cincinnati and back drivind 16 hours straight only stopping for gas and the truck doesn't miss a beat. The Dakotas are awesome!!!

Good mod/tip for these 1st gen 91-96 dakotas -keep eye on idler arm and pitman arm for play -Do 180 degree thermostat its the best mod for the 5.2 Magnum in general and if it needs new radiator/water pump go for it -Run a good oil and good oil filter for good high oil pressure (no fram filters though seen a lot of those rust on the truck) -Keep eye on the driver/passenger door hinges they like the break and doors can fall off just weld them back in place if they break or crack -If your auto transmission gives you problems again pick up a NV3500 5 speed manual Dakota V8 transmission 1994-1996 could maybe use the later ones but 1-2 gear ratios likely different and computer out of manual truck for a bulletproof setup, all my dakota 5.2 have manuals my white 94 have a very low 1st gear and had good pulling power pulled out 454 3500 dually in 3 ft snow with a full load of wood well over the roof, my green 96 had wider 1st and 2nd but it was on 94 ram 2500 axles solid axle swapped and it went anywhere even with the higher gearing transmission. Now i have a OBD2 96 dakota single cab shortbed with 5.2 V8 and NV3500 5 speed manual and its 4x4 but its way faster then my extended cabs and wider gearing. The difference i found in those manuals between certain ones is 1st gear in one will hit 10-15mph at like 2500-2800rpm where as the wide one like my single cab has now will hit 20-25mph at 2500-2800rpm they are same nv3500 but 1st and 2nd will be different but still bulletproof setup the nv3500 is the overkill 5.2 transmission from factory haha Another you can pop the hood and look at the tag on driver side and you can find what axle you have t case paint code etc its a white tag pop the hood should be on driver side of hood

Dakota was the first truck to use rack and pinion steering. As such I don't believe it needs idler arms or pitman arms.
@bongzonthebeat
@bongzonthebeat 11 месяцев назад
@@650gringo Yes and no. The early 4x4 models all the way up to 2000 or somewhere in there was using idler arms n style steering like a chevy would but the 2wd ones were rack and pinion, after 2000 they all became rack and pinion no steering box even in durangos

@@bongzonthebeat My '94 is rack and pinion. Also, it has the AX-15 5 speed with a very low first gear. Need to shift almost as soon as you get moving, then 2 thru 5th are more widely spaced and easy to use. Enjoy your Dakota, I sure do like mine!

I had a 88 v6 automatic, it was the best truck I ever owned, I owned full size Chevy, and fords about 8 of those. Nothing my more reliable and rock solid as the Dakota truck. Hauled many loads of firewood and never babied at all. That v6 was the best dodge ever built . It was kinda rare it was a mopar express, and had this decal on the bed sides, silver, with red and black stripes also had fiberglass wing behind cab, that worked great on hot days keeping the sun off the back of my head. I want another please. Today I own a 2000 Dakota sport v8 116 k miles, it’s a great truck but liked my 88 better. Better ride and mpgs

Dakota came in 87. 1991 started the 318. 1992 came the magnum 3.9 and 5.2 liter. Dodge had the ram 50 made by Mitsubishi. Their version was the mighty max. Not super comfortable but was a little tank. Dodge 4x4s were called the power ram and in the late 80s early 90s used the 2.6 four cylinder or optional 3.0 V6. All were good trucks 👍

My ram needed brake lines in the front and i got a new set of stainless steel brake lines from classic tube from Ohio, for the complete truck and the kit was $209, the factory ac works the Dr door i believe the pwr window motor is going out the previous owners think it just the window switch i doubt it because it will roll down every time but takes forever to make it go back up, the muffler was hacked off so I want to repair the factory single exhaust and use and retain it its in good shape most of the interior is in good shape on the 2000 ram,it had a aftermarket dual electronics xm250 mp3 cd player in it but most of the speakers didn't work and i had already bought a correct version premium infinity by chrysler am fm cd player cassette tape player stereo i had planned on putting it in a dodge Dakota club cab truck and install it in this 2000 ram laramie slt it's the premium infinity by chrysler 6 speaker and tweeters amplifier filters sound system but the speakers are about shot so I am going to update the speakers for now with what i can get and eventually a complete infinity reference set and I plan to add a dual electronics xpr82d amplifier to the high level inputs for the rear speakers since the front doors are swapped out and they are from a lower level trim of truck it is a laramie.., it has either doors from a early second gen ram regular cab or club cab truck and the factory speakers from them say audio latina by chrysler and only have two wire plugs my truck has six wire plugs, and if you are interested my am fm cd player cassette tape player stereo was serviced and cleaned got new belts and leds lights i bought it off of Daley's deals through eBay and the lense has two small deep scratches but I gave $80 for it $15 shipping everything works works great. Dash cap is a dash skinz dash cap covers that typical cracked dash it has 4 small short cracks in dash up by the windshield so that is why it has a dash cap headliner is in good shape door panels only had a little bit of wear around the door handle pocket, the seat has a small tear on the outer Dr side at the top of bottom seat cushion but I can get seat covers if it bothers me it doesn't truck has all good glass front doors have overspray ive gotten most of it off from the haphazardly blasted flat black paint job for them and the factory chrome front bumper because this truck was ordered with the semi gloss black grille and bumpers and factory front bumper was mangled from pushing with it so it was swapped out.the replacement doors are bright red so that is why they were spray paint flat black. The center console is decent has a few small tears on the lid but oh well not worth taking apart the whole seat to change, and that would not necessarily be a easy task since it not only has the rainbow thread seats and door panels it is also a factory light/dark mist grey option truck has both colors throughout the interior most trucks are just the light mist grey color interior. Ram starts right up in 24 degree weather and when it is at engine operating temperature carries a consistent 60psi of oil pressure runs strong for a 318 factory towing pkg with the trailer wiring plug, mount box and receiver hitch, and transmission cooler, probably one of the only two reasons this transmission has survived lol, and the charging issue why his grandpa decided to sell it in the first place they said was a bad alternator and battery well nope not the alternator.. the battery is from 2005 and it is definitely bad and had leaked down the side of the battery well on these trucks there's a battery stud post besides the underhood power distribution center fuse block and had about rotted it in two replaced the cable no charging issues at all except the fact that the battery in it is the factory ac Delco battery for a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix gtp so I need to get the correct cranking amps group size new battery for the truck because if it sits for more than two weeks its sometimes weak to dead lol.also needs a brake light switch replacement brake lights occasionally sticks on so got to keep an eye on that. And the other issue was cluster guage motor failure is why they got rid of the truck it has a different dash cluster in it and it almost always works except for the tach sometimes but the speedometer always does so I actually believe the ignition switch is getting weak so I plan to replace it with the standard ignition products part i got shortly after i got the truck but I doubt i will be looking for me a club cab first gen v8 club cab magnum dodge Dakota Le because i don't plan to sell this ram unless they offer the right price lol, and I also have the original owners manual and it says where the truck was bought from so does the tailgate on the truck.

And they were a compact size truck anyways.. i have owned a 90 dodge Dakota se 2wd long bed 2.2 chrysler 4cyl 5spd manual windows factory am fm stereo no cassette, and I didn't end up picking up me a 92-95 dodge Dakota club cab short box 5.2 litre 318 Magnum v8 I want a two tone le trim lol..
