Vacuum lines purposes, routings, failures, diagrams and explanations. I tried to get it all in there. Video stabilization though... not so much. Thanks for watching.
Imagine dealing with this vacuum issue without a schematic and an angry spouse who likes heat and air in the truck? Your spot on with the answers I needed on the vac. System, and the repair. Thanks
Thank you for the video! The 4wd and interior vents were not working in my 98 12v and I feared it was something serious. Turns out the main vaccum line was unplugged from the vacuum pump. Used your video to find the pump and fixed it all in under 10 seconds. Thank you!!
As an addendum to my previous comment, I was able to go out and diagnose my vacuum leak in about three minutes after watching your video, thank you!!!!!
So thankful for this video! Saved me so much money. Literally took 5 seconds to fix. Vac line was broken an out of place. Boom back to cold ac baby !!!!!
Thanks for making it look way easier then it sounds. Always dreaded messing with the vacuum lines. Im gonna go check all mine now cause I dont have cruise control.
This guy deserves so many more subs and likes. He's helping out alot of people. Im a mechanic and been wanting to start a channel myself to help people but i just dont have the time or money for camaras and stuff to get started lol
Thank you sir, Though I feel quite the opposite. The last half decent video i posted I was at 1000 subs, and now we've almost tripled that. Holly Cow!!! When I started I as using a crappy video camera that only shot 360 video. But I've been fortunate enough that the youtube earnings have been able to pay for better cameras and hard drives. So if youtube is something you wanna do, I say go for it boss. Your phone camera probably shoots decent enough video. And because we're talking how-tos, I feel that people will sit through a slightly less perfessional video, if the content is there.
One of the best "how-to", "how-does-it-work", "what-is-it" videos I've ever seen! You not only have a knack for making entertaining and informative on-line videos, you seem to be a great mechanic. And, how did you know my vacuum line fell out of the clip and melted on the exhaust manifold? Amazing! Now I just need to find a replacement and reconnect it. Thank you big time!
Thank you Sir. I've seen the vacuum line come unclipped a couple times, so while it's not super common, it's definitely a known problem. I'll be honest, when I started reading your comment, I thought it was the typical 'Butter-him-up-before-asking-a-question' technique. But then I got to the end and there was no question! I can't Thank you enough for the psychological booster that your Comment gave. If I had to try it would it would probably overload youtube's servers, so I won't. If you have any questions or video suggestions please shoot them my way! Take care!
New to diesels and fortunate to have found a 98 4x4 12 valve manual. Great video, it let me know how important it is to make sure vacuum is maintained!
This explains everything my Cruise control isn’t working the AC only blows from the defrost and 4x4 doesn’t work you fixed all my problems with 1 video thank you!
Thank you. My line going to HVAC controls was broken, right where it goes through the firewall. I spent hours trying to find where it came through. I never would have found it if nt for your picture showing it alongside the AC lines. Thankfully there was just enough still sticking through, for me to grab it with needle nose pliers, and put a rubber hose onit, to reattach.
just want to shout out a big thank you for your efforts explaining how theses lines are routed lots of great information on your part . i just got a cummings diesel and after buying it i ran the ac and only would come through the defrost vents so i started digging into it and checked at the main vacume tube connect at the main switch control and no vacuum so i started under the hood and found the main line has no vac. well beings im not familiar with a dodge cummings i decided to look here on good ole you tube and wala i got my info rt off the block thanks once again for posting his Bill in Nevada
I wish I had someone like you around here to help me fix my truck that's been broken down 6 months it's got a fuel problem it's hard starting , and I have to fix that first so I can get the transmission rebuilt on my 96 5.9 12 valve. Like an idiot I took the truck to the Dodge dealer and they ripped me off 900 bucks to put in three bolts
Thank you! I tend to tense up when I get in front of a camera, this video was a good example of me just lettin' er fly. So I'm glad you found it entertaining! I hope more of my videos will lean in this direction from now on. Thank you for the feedback!
For sure boss. Unfortinitally there isn't really anything cool about any of the trucks at the moment. My shorty has a basically stock engine, Josh's 05 doesn't even have a front axle under it not to mention an engine, and Jamison's 04 is still waiting on engine go fast parts. That being said, we're all waiting on some parts from wagler that should spice things up a little.
I've posted this comment on other videos but hopefully it will help someone. My defroster was stuck in the on position which was due to a vacuum leak. The leak was in the small vacuum line that passes by the transmission dipstick handle. The embossed letters "TRANSMISSION" on the handle has sharp corners and over time wore a hole in the vacuum line where it touched. It was just by luck I found the leak as it was on the hidden backside of the hose. I felt it but never saw it. I taped over it and it worked again.
ahhhh haha!! Just what I was looking for. I noticed my defrost and a/c door doing a swap. I noticed a haze being pushed out of the crankcase vent hose, which was not there the day prior. The truck was not run hard or towed anything it just started to act different. This vid helped me out considerably. Thank you for passing the knowledge.
I owe you a beer. Must have knocked the cable loose after changing the fuel filter... If . you'r ever in the bay area, I will pay it forward.. :) . thanks MUCH!
Awesome video nothing that has vacuum works on my truck all of a sudden. Hope it's a line but with my luck I'll have to reseal the vacuum pump. I have a 2001 cummins
Thanks for the video. I have a 24valve 5.9 and when I shut the truck off I loose all vacuum pressure quickly but when the truck is running it’s above 25. Is this normal to loose pressure. I’ve checked for leaks and can’t find any.
I have a 1990 Mopar dodge van there is a purge solenoid and 2 other similar components together I had leaks everywhere and when I tried to repair most if not all the hoses broke the 3 components have 3 hose connectors totaling 9 connections with 1 color coded wire connector on each !! I am trying to replace hoses with black rubber hose !! I have no idea what hose goes where van starts full pedal barely runs let off the pedal it dies hissing and stinks of gas & exhaust I need a drawing or diagram of Mopar engine where hoses going to the purge solenoid and the other 2 components next to it Any help would be appreciated
Good video, but what about the vacuum lines for the 97 and 98 California truck with a EGR ? I bought a 97 cummins that had the egr that someone already deleted and want to make sure they blocked off the vacuum line..
I have a second gen with that Vacuumsystem but I’m looking for the information on a third GEN it is a 2004 / 24 valve 2500 Dodge Ram With a vacuum problem and it doesn’t even do defrost Could you let me know? Pretty please?
i have a 1997 I just got from my uncle as a early bday present . I definitely needs to have seafoam or something of that nature ran threw the vacuum line but I cant find it to save my life! my truck doesn't have the brake booster so where do I need to start looking? ps this truck is my first diesel "project" truck...
I’m trying to bypass the actuator for 4wd. Can I pull off the black line and cap it? I want to use 2wd lo. So transfer case in low with the actuator disengaged. I’m assuming if I pull the black vacuum line and cap it, it will just remain disengaged but I’m not sure if it will cause a vacuum leak on the red line. Thanks
Great video! Any suggestion on HVAC only vacuum issue I have? All other vacuum controlled functions work but vents are stuck on defrost. I replaced the actuator on driver side with no luck and air only comes out of vents if I physically pull actuator arm down. Wouldn’t a leak cause other issues other than vents too? Thanks!
in a lot of cases, the vacuum pump can outflow a leak, so if the line that feeds the HVAC is disconnected, then the pump will outflow the leak so everything else is still getting vacuum, but the HVAC won't work.
Had a so called mechanic hook my main vac line to my fuel water drain petcock Of course my ac diverter doors not working, 4x4 is not engaging(put a cable lock for 4x4. Wish I would have saw this earlier, thanks for info, hooked up main line to pump, works like it's suppose to.
Well, that was good. I have a 2001 cummins 2500. I put a vacuum pump on it and the doors and valves all worked. So, I looked down there and saw a place where fluid should go. Humm, is that part of the vaccuum pump ? I know, I probably shouldn't even own this thing if I'm asking that , right ? Sheesh.
That’s something I don’t understand why dodge or Cummins didn’t change this to an exhaust port with catch can . To eliminate the problem of excessive crankcase pressure
Hey! Nice vid, I have the same issue with no 4x4, tried your idea for testing for leaks by blowing into the black line.. not able to blow any air into it. What would you check next? Thanks!
I would test for vacuum on the black line, make sure it has vacuum in 4x4, if it does, then it's likely the actuator, if not then try putting it in 2wd and check the red line for vacuum. Could be the vacuum switch on top the T-case isn't working, or the actuator is broken.
The 1st 2 lines you show going down by the drivers side, is that line plugged off just after those 2 or is it plugged into another line? Your shaking so much.
Hello I thought i might ask a question . I have 1997 dodge 2500 diesel my cruise control not working. Problem: When i press to activate bottom on steering wheel the light will flash for a second and does not stay on any ideas? thanks
Try checking for codes, while these things don't throw many, it may throw one for the cruise control circuitry. I sounds like either the wiring/cruise control servo is faulty, and the computer is seeing this and disabling it again.
No sir! The cluttered POS is a '96 and the other is a '97. If yours is much different, it might be due to the previous owner redoing parts of it. Thanks for watching!
Hey man. So my 4wd worked yesterday, but today it doesn’t? Hm... this is what I’ve come down too the the vacuum lines (possibly) now I haven’t tested it or looked but I’m very convinced. My cruise control works but my 4wd won’t engage...🙃
Sounds like you're on the right track. If the vacuum line is broken down by the trans/axle, it's possible that everything else (cruise control, vents) will still work. It's also possible that your vacuum switch on the tcase isn't working, or the CAD actuator is bent.
Yes it does, it goes to the cruise control solenoid that's also located under the battery tray. It can be kinda interesting to get to. Thanks! And yes, the pringles can. haha. People kept asking if it was chipped, so I figured why not! My chips are even stacked! They're the special "low fat" model for extra weight savings too.
Great vid, It didn't help me with my prob though. 99 2500 cummins, 512k miles, I have had since new. My climate control issue is, nothing works. The Truck sat for about a year while I was over seas working, came back and got it running again with a little effort, but the climate control is completely dead, like its not plugged in. it doesn't do anything. I checked electric coming in to the switch, it has 13+v, and if I jumper the low pressure safety, with the switch off, the AC Clutch compressor will not engage, if the switch is on, the clutch will engage, so the Dash Switch is getting power. I also Checked the blower motor it has 13v at the plug, and I jumped a line from the battery to the motor and it came on fine. I also Checked the Vacum in the engine bay, and at the dash switch its got 29 hg while running but drops off as soon as the engine is shut down, so there is a leak, but it should still have enough to run the system. I went to the Junkyard and got a whole new Dash switch and same thing...So it has power, vac and the blower motor works, but.... nothing works... any suggestions?
Looking at a 2001 24 valve. The guy says 4wd, cruise control, and climate controls aren’t working due to a vaccum leak. I know that the trans has been build could it be that the lines weren’t put back on causing the leaks to everything or does it sound more like the main line from the vacuum?
Jakem34 the lines are frail enough at this age that simply flexing them can cause them to crack. Honestly vacuum issues are easy enough to track down in these trucks I wouldn’t be very concerned purchasing one with one.
