yes it boils down to physics.. they naturally want to run .. they got great gas mileage too,, I had a straight 6 in an old chevy truck with the single barrel carb.. it was a gas miser and had plenty of power.

Agreed then they added a turbo and on top of that the turbo is part of the head now let's talk repair costs and replacement costs or what happens when you want more boost you have to buy a new head lol it'll save gas but you will always be able to get more power out of the v8

I just finished the web update course for my training on this last week and have been to my local Stellantis training center recently . We will see this engine in the Wagoneer platform very soon after the “official unveiling “ as he told us. All the service info is available to techs and we have been getting the special tools for the engine. Our instructor told us the Hemi’s will be done in ‘23 but was unsure if it would be model year or sometime in ‘23 as it seems some info on it is very up in the air. Also if it had a Hemi it will get this as the replacement at some point.

There is something special about an inline 6…. I hope it turns out to be a great engine!
@JasPlun
@JasPlun 2 года назад
Its not a typical inline six and it will have all kinds of problems being it will be a brand new design. I see things that I do not like. It's cylinder head and intake will be one piece from what I have seen. I can see issues arising from that by itself. If they have multiport and direct injection together I will feel better. Without the multiport to help clean valves it will have problems like other direct injection engines have. I am sticking with Toyota or Honda going forward I am leary of domestic designed forced induction engines and the costs that come with them. It may end up being the most reliable engine ever made, but I highly dought it.
@randy1ization
@randy1ization 2 года назад
INLINES have always been great, even in motorcycles.. they make alot more mechanical sense than a horizontally opposed engine, they are easier to balance, bullet proof reliable, lighter, ect... I think these are going to be great engines!!! I think they are coating the cylinder walls and making special pistons so they can run it at a leaner ratio, to get more power.. Ive wondered abt this for a long time,, they must have finally found the recipe..

@randy1ization
@randy1ization 2 года назад
@@Ayixlia yes vee opposed engines are always trying to shake apart. they must be internally balanced and have big heavy crankshafts and flywheels to counter the shitshow.. this is why V engines on motor bikes will try throw you off at 90 mph.,, inline 6 and 8s are the future,, the V4 AND 6 designs were mostly for front wheel drive cars to give more space. designers are much more concerned how a car looks than how it works, I have a 2000 bmw with straight 6 and rear wheel drive and it is awesome.. we need to go back to inline engines and rear wheel drive.
@randy1ization
@randy1ization 2 года назад
have u ever seen a crankshaft in a harley davidson v twin? they are massive! also alot of manufacturers had to put a balance shaft in thier v6 motors, aside from using the crankshaft and flywheel to attempt in minimizing the shaking,, if u ever swap a v6 engine, grab the flywheel too because it is used to balance the engine.,

I really want to be positive, here's the real issue, as manufacturers bring out ice engines with V6 turbo this and inline 6 turbo that, it's only a matter of time the EPA will say no flashing or tuning like California, and if caught big fines will follow, N-gauge etc. Best deal is to hold on to our V8 and if you can buy a few extra V8 cores, and parts and live in a state where mods are ok. Electric cars will be faster in time, but 100k electric cars, and the disposal of batteries will cause more problems health wise.

This is totally untrue . Mopar engines are the weakest of the big 3 . You have stock sealed 5.0 coyote engines making 1000 whp or more yet 5.7-6.4 hemis blow up at 700 whp in perfect conditions . The reality is , the pistons and rods are a major weak link . Same goes for gm. Ls/lt engines have made huge power on stock bottom end stuff - no hemi has done that reliably . I just sold my 2020 ram for a 2021 explorer st , and with minor bolt ons and a tune , my little 3.0 v6 is equal to a stock trackhawk

As for the 6 banger jokes, there's alot of classic Mopar fans who could argue it's a reborn slant 6, which you couldnt kill back then. It's the downsized turbo market, makes the EPA happy and they get to sell it with those big power numbers out of small displacements. Look at the GT, GT500 and GT350R a 5.0 and a 5.2 (302/318) My mom's 73 Mustang had a 351 Cleveland. No one's talking about the big 428/429s because the tech in the Coyotes dwarf the old iron sledgehammers from the 60s/70s. dodge brought the Hemi name back and the "hemi style combustion designs" news flash the 4.7 SOHC was nicknamed the "semi-hemi" that was really a Powertech/Magnum

No one has even attempted a small-displacement V8 for modern times. I'm not talking like the Coyote or even the 4.6, or the 4.8 from GM. They could've done a 3.6-4.0L V8 with twins and made the same horsepower. The V8 is simply cooler and has always signified the "premium" engine option. You can go back and listen to oddly small displacement V8s like the 3.4 in the Taurus SHO or the 221s from Ford WAY back when. They still carry that unique V8 sound. And the only people they'll be "dinosaurs" to are the workers at the EPA. The manual is being ordered less and less, but people still love their V8s. No one is asking for the V8 to go away, and they could find a compromise with a small-displacement version.

Although the Europeans have been successful in making 4.0L - 4.4L V8's that do perform, the last time American manufacturers tried that there were NOT SUCCESSFUL. Try GM's 260ci / 4.3L V8 and Ford's 255ci / 4.2L V8 from the '80s (or the Cadillac 250ci / 4.1L V8 from the '70s) If you search, you'd agree... The 4.4L V8 on Volvos when Ford owned them was actually a Yamaha-made and tuned engine that the Japanese wouldn't want to sell to Ford in numbers.

It was only rated at 118 horsepower, and old dyno tests showed that it was somehow overrated. Furthermore, one example is from 50 years ago, another is from 40, and the third one is from 30 years ago. They're not at all indicative of what could be done today. Porsche(as well as their sister company Audi, and parent company Volkswagen) does not use any inline 6 cylinder engines. The 911 and the 718 are powered by horizontally opposed "boxer" engines, not inlines. The Macan is powered by a V6, as are all the 6 cylinder Audis. Inline 6 engines are BMW's gig, and Benz is also going back to them. So smooth, and such linear power delivery. It's definitely not a V8, but as you said, we have to adapt. I remember when everything came stock with an inline six, it's 40 years later and I'm still unimpressed (personal opinion). But anything can be souped up. The question is: Is this thing going to last? Will it still be fast with 150,000 miles on the clock or will it be rusting in a junk yard, going nowhere fast at 60K? Remember we're talking about Renault/Fiat here not the good old boys at mopar that brought us the 225, 383 and 318 that ran forever.

The "good old boys" era at Chrysler ended in bankruptcy, twice, if you'll kindly remember. And this engine was designed by Peugeot, not Renault or Fiat. Renault is part of the Nissan alliance, and Fiat is a dead company walking, thankfully. And did you even watch the video? This engine IS souped up. The standard version has more power and torque than the small Hemi, and the performance version outdoes the 6.4 Hemi. Direct injection and turbocharging FTW. I saw the specs, and I've seen scrap yards and repair shops full of really nifty high performance Chrysler products that produce 0 horse power at the wheels after only a few short years of being on the road. I will try and be fair and give this new wonder motor a couple of years to prove itself (an abysmal failure) just to be fair. I think most car owners value reliability over HP, don't get me wrong, I like HP... a lot... but only when the car is actually running. High tech alloy, direct injection, and turbo chargers on a straight 6 is still just lipstick on a pig. Chrysler is only doing it, because straight 6's are way cheaper to build than V engines.

As the happy owner of 2 ecoboost engines, both with over 100k miles, it's nice to see Ram & GM eating their trash talk about boosted engines in standard applications. Ford jumped into turbos with both feet, and endured years of trash talk from every corner except 95% of the people who actually bought one. I miss my V8 sounds, but my 10 yr old F150 ecoboost with 163k miles on it.... it blew the doors off my 2021 GMC X31 company truck. That 5.3L ecotec has nothing on my old ecoboost. Low-end tq makes a massive difference when towing. When i am pulling my boat at 75 mph, I'm getting 98% of my 425 ft lbs of tq. I hope ram got the tq curve right on this I-6.

I grew up in the 1960's and V-8's ruled back then. But times have changed and now is the time for turbo charged four and six cylinders. The porchse engines are opposed six cylinders and I'm not a fan of Porchse. The new "Hurricane" I am excited about. I've owned a few in line six cylinders in the past and they were tough and produced great amounts if torque. Horsepower may sell, but torque gets you going. The in line design makes a lot of sense to me. When you design a dual overhead engine the in line engine is simple to design. When desgning a "V" engine with dual overhead cams things get compicated and the timing chains can be a nightmare. For this reason I am excited about the new in line Hurricane engine coming out.

This little I-6 will be running "on the turbo" nearly all the time on the highway which will wear out the turbo prematurely. Turbochargers are very expensive to replace. Also, this will be a very poor engine for Jeep Wranglers, because when going offroad, the engines are running barely above idle, around 11-1200 rpms, and at this engine speed, there is no turbo boost available due to the throttle being almost closed. For this reason, you never see an off-road vehicle with a turbo, engines with power boosters all have regular superchargers. Cars (and trucks) with turbos are only found in highway use, and then only when passing. These new engines are rated at 400 and 500 hp, but that's when "on the turbo." When not "on the turbo" we only have a 180 cid inline 6 engine.

Nearly a century later, we are still suspect of any new engine that promises more power from more intensive use of the same basic hardware. Yes, I am suspicious of any engine promising 150 + HP per liter, particularly if that output is expected continuously for a half hour... or more. But there are some brilliant young engineers behind these new Hurricane engines, and it is their turn to show us what can be done. And I know I am not alone... direct injection scares the hell out of me, without fuel washing the intake valves they will likely get pretty nasty by about 100k miles. dirty intake valves wont be good for emissions so after some miles you start to negate your clean emissions then it will certainly end up leading to a major repair. ford learned a hard lesson with their direct injection engines and eventually created a combo setup that included direct and port injection so they could get some fuel to wash intake valves. direct injection looks good on paper but in practice not so much.

Everyone is complaining about this and there are definitely some purists who will always love the v8 no matter what and resist the new 6 or ev. But most will turn especially if the new engine is more powerful and faster. Look how everyone turns on cars that are a little older and a little less hp than the current year they say they are all slow and weak etc etc. I can almost guarantee you are right with weight reduction as well. The new challenger could be lighter plus the engine being lighter. Once the hurricane is smoking the scats it will be the only option for most just like the coyotes are for mustang. Im glad I bought my 21 scatpack new recently before the v8’s are gone and it doesn’t have to be the fastest thing on the planet, still awesome, the last pure old school muscle car to be produced will always be special..
