This is a head to head test of my Smitty sled vs my Frabill Aegis shack. I pull both in the same conditions and measure the pull weight required to keep them moving on the lake.
I just built a smitty sled very similar to this. OMG - What a difference it makes. I used to pull a flip over ice shack. It was difficult to pull very far even with sled runners added to the bottom. Now with the ice shack mounted on the smitty I can pull the sled with all my gear with one hand. Do yourself a favor and build one ASAP. You will be glad you did.
I love my Smitty I’ll tow my jet sled behind my Otter that’s on the Smitty and put my rods in the rod holders on the jet sled so I’m not loading a rod box and adding weight. It’s amazing how easy everything pulls. The exhausting part is when you have to move your boots through 8” of powder snow !!
Sweet! Subscribed to see more details on it. Curious how you attached those PVC "feet" to the skis. I'm getting tired of dragging so much weight across the lake especially when I go out with the family.
I used pvc end caps and the same screws that held the bindings on. Took off the bindings, predrilled through the pvc cap and into the ski. Two screws in each. I was worried that it wouldn't hold up to much abuse, but has been great so far.
