I picked up the Milwaukee Carry on tool battery powered generator. We look to see if we can get it to trip (overload), does a mixed battery set have an effect, runtime on the biggest batteries, price and then talk about who this might be a fit for with all things considered.

No problem Bob! Always good to save money on the power tool purchases

We tend to be lucky with the lack of power cuts, but as an occasional camper, the all in one options look more interesting to me.

I really enjoy your channel. Thanks for the review. I’m a Milwaukee fanboy all day long. But I’m completely jobsite cordless, so I have the batteries but don’t need the unit. No sump pump either…lol. But I do have the Top-Off. It’s good for 175 watts. So if camping it’ll run a CPAP, would run a tv, bug zapper, etc. I personally use it to power five 3’ led shoplights in my 14’ box truck/mobile workshop when I’m not connected to shore power. A 12AH last about 3 - 3.5 hours and I can pull chain one side if I’m at my bench. Anyway they are great. See you soon.

Thanks Brian. I really am a Milwaukee fan boy too (though I don’t always feel that way when I’m doing a video like this) perhaps I expect more from them at the premium price. Yea the top off is a nice option, I use the generic versions in a lot of my electric shop tables to make them cordless

Good review in general, at least as an option. Glad you brought up the power stations as an option, as I was thinking that after hearing the price on the Milwaukee and knowing about the DeWalt. With the cost and ease of solar recharging, I'm probably going to look into a power station instead. - Chris

Yeah, honestly, I’m leaning the same way, I hadn’t really crunched the numbers between the two options before I purchased it, just thinking about how good of an idea was to be able to swap the batteries out but once I really kinda dug into it is just too offputting

Excellent review. While hubbie has a mountain of red batts, I think I will wait for the self contained power station comparison. Thanks for all you do!

Thanks! Yea even with the new big ones from way source I’m thinking the same from a cost perspective

I would have thought nowadays on the job site most tools are actually individual battery units so why would you need the large power pack? Just use individual tools when you need them. I can see the appeal for using the power pack in emergencies and loading your individual tool batteries into it.
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt Месяц назад
Yea you’re right they even have battery miter now. I’m sure there are still some more commercial tools however. That appeal is what I thought too and why I bought it, just wish the price point was lower in that solution

Great video and perfect timing for me. I actually have that Milwaukee unit in my cart. I would say the most important use case for me would be the refrigerator during a power outage. It seems like owning both makes sense. I would love to know is how long+how much gas it would take that size generator to fully charge the Milwaukee full of 12.0s. It's worth noting that Home Depot has had quite a few M18 battery sales recently as they gear up to release the next generation. $329-339 for two 12.0s, one 8.0, and a fast charger. I've bought it twice with my pro Xtra 10% off coupons for $315 after tax. So four 12.0s and two 8.0s for $630. That would place the overall cost of full price with 4 12.0s at ~$1150(arbitrarily valuing the 8.0s very low at $100ea) rather than $2100. You can get the unit 'used-like new' sometimes for $450-500, which brings us down another $100-150. I'll definitely check out that website for tools, thank you very much sir.

@@BitnerBuilt They had the sale today for $329 but it's already sold out! Need to be very early checking Home Depot App daily. Damn.

it is designed for heavy duty start up using 72v inventor best to use 12ah or 8ah HO and it is pure sine wave People also use them as charger cuz it charges 4 batteries at the same time at slow 3Amp
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt Месяц назад
Yes it def has its pluses, that’s why I purchased it but then comparing it to one of those all in ones with the same heavy duty startup capability for under the cost of the unit bare, and solar charging built in, the cost ratio doesn’t make as much sense unless you have 8+ 12ah/8ah batteries already

I wonder if the padlock hole is more intended for lockout/tagout onsite than for actual theft prevention?
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt Месяц назад
Could be. The Milwaukee site does only list it as lockable battery bays (padlock not included)

Four 5AH tool batteries is 0.36kWh. Assuming 100% efficiency (count on less than 80%), that's about 3A for one hour (at 120V). It would run a half HP sump pump less than an hour. It's hardly useful as a backup generator.
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt Месяц назад
Your assuming a sump pump runs constantly, sumps run for about around 10 seconds at a time emptying the pit and and sitting there until the pit refills, depending on how often that refills your looking at hours of service but it you watched to the end, I am a bit disenchanted with it and really only someone who already has a fat stack of big batteries would this make any applicable sense for
@kwilliams2239
@kwilliams2239 Месяц назад
@@BitnerBuilt If it only runs ten seconds at a time, you'll burn it up. It should cycle for at least a minute. Yours needs some work. It's still not nearly enough for emergency power. There are better and I'm sure, cheaper, solutions.

I thought of another test. Will the unit work with battery adapters (random brand to Milwaukee)?
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt Месяц назад
Hmmm so that would be abnormally risky. Normally an adaptor is “ok” to use with a tool. The adaptor only has the power prongs and not the data prong, which eliminates the battery protections. When using an adaptor it’s very important you don’t fully deplete the battery as a normal operation when your battery dies it actually has about 10% left in it. But when you use an adapter, it can fully drain the battery bricking it never to be recharged again. When you’re usually using it with a drill, for example you’re most likely not going to fully deplete but with this generator, it’s 100% chance that you’re going to deplete it all the way and so every time you do that you’re risking the battery breaking itself, so at least this application I would say never to use an adapter

Big Milwaukee fan, but they really dropped the ball on this one. I bought it last year and returned it 2 months later. Probably their worst product they have made.
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt Месяц назад
Yea same They made it well with high tolerances it’s just financially way too high when considering the alternatives. If it was $300 I’d be more pro on it
