For 2 adults, not an issue. If you have the compatible interests and a mature, realistic outlook on life, you can be happy. Be careful when you speak of "maturity" because there are many people who are older, who are not mature and conversely, you can find younger people who are very mature intellectually and emotionally. You need to judge the situation person by person. Also, people put far too much emphasis on the opinions of friends and family members. You need to live your life for yourself and not to please other people. Go for it.

My fiancee and I are 8 years apart. I am 20 and he is 28. We met at college since he decided to go back to school after the military. I thought it would be difficult explaining it to my parents, but honestly they didn't care and they were happy that I was happy. Age should not matter as long as you love each other and that you understand they you WILL have differences because of the age gap in morals and likes and dislikes it is just something you need to push past.
age does not matter if both are ADULTS and they realize the pros and cons of their age difference so if a 23 year old wants to date a 32 year old by all means go ahead but if a 50 year old wants to date a 13 year old......then that's where we draw the line
When my mom was in the middle of college she made a decision to take all the money she had saved up and travel all around Europe. To this day she believes it was one of the best decisions of her entire life, even if she did wind up broke afterwards. As a child growing up hearing her stories of Europe made me want to travel as well. I hope that I can experience more of the world so that I can have stories to tell my kids someday.
CrystalEcho I'm 110% with you!!! I'm shooting for a Chinese Government Scholarship so I can study in China for 2 years.. because while I'm there I can travel.. Perhaps that would be a great option for you. If you don't want to study, teach English! It's an affordable way to really see other cultures in Asia at least. :)
Travel, then come back. When you come back, you will have ten times the drive and focus and you will benefit much more from college. You will probably have to work your way through school, but you will have the maturity to pull it off by then. The secret to success in higher education is the effort you put into it, not the name of the university.
Thank you so much for this video! My parents are 17 years apart and they are living proof that age doesn't matter in a relationship. My father was nearly 40 when he married my mother who was in her 20s. People are really careful about relationships that have big age gaps. I think if you are in the same place regardless of your age and you can have fun together, relate to each other, then go for it! you never know what a diamond your may find in a younger or in an older person :) PS. love your double chen show its wonderful
I'm 22 years old and I've always been told that I'm older than I am. I have not done the party thing, never tried drinking or drugs. I'm just not into it. I'm very focused and driven and people tell me I have a very "mature" mind. My mom even tells me I'm having a midlife crisis already and I'm only in college. This worries me because I look toward older guys and I don't want to be judged by my age. I'm literally at the point in my life where if I dated a guy for 2+ years, I'd get married and not feel like I'm missing anything lol

I went on a 30 days China Silk Road trip by myself. I joined a tour group and was the youngest of 22 people in the group - the next youngest was a about 20 years older than me. It was quite an experience and my tour mates were all keeping an eye on the baby. I am planning to visit South Korea later this year, by myself. It it will happen. Happy New Year to all!!!

I totally agree with you guys regarding the partying issues... I think nowadays we're basically told that college = you drink 'till you drop and don't stop partying. This should NOT be the case. Dating who you want, sure! But partying? I believe it has a lot to do with peer pressure. Because even if you feel you can balance partying with normal social life + plus school, + school work and maybe even a job... there's just no way. Partying gets in the way of you really doing something constructive. Partying keeps you in a certain place, unmoving. It's just not healthy. BUT-- of course, people will do what they want. I just hope younger people will learn that it's about what *they* want, not about what others think or how their perceive "cool"ness. Coolness =/= partying all the time, drinking, drugs, etc.

I agree with. I'm 18 and I'm dating a 31 year old, it depends on the people. We get along great and it doesn't seem like there is that much of an age difference. He wants to get married but I want to graduate from college first, so we talked about it and decided to be engaged. It also gives us enough time to save for the wedding and to plan for the future. He respects me and what I want and I do the same for him. It's all about communication and compromise, which should be in every relationship no matter what age.

Noone dictates anyone who to date/marry/or fall in love with. It should be consensual. Sometimes, a person gets attracted with another person of his or her age, older or younger, doesn't matter, as long as they are happy.

Be careful when you said '' no one ever said ''. Because I did. I wish I partied(?) more. Not because of the parties, but more because of the social impact of it. I've always been a bookworm. I was shy and not good at all with people. So YES I think being able to party, not every week, but being able to do it, can have an impact on your life. I'm in my mid-thirty now and it's still hard for me to be in a party because I still don't know how to be comfortable in thee situations. And yes, society is for couple or group. It seems that you cannot do anything alone. It's so false. I used to do things by myself regularly. But well, with a book, you're never alone. There's enough huskies for both of you.....

When I was in college in Portland, I would go to several different Vietnamese places and have a hot bowl of pho by myself in between classes. Best between-class meal ever, and it was the perfect thing to share with my textbooks or notes while I ate.
I am comfortable eating alone in a restaurant, I do it all the time. I am comfortable going to a movie alone, I've done it a few times. I was comfortable moving to China for my new job alone. However, I'm just not comfortable traveling alone. At least not large-scale traveling through a new country, especially if I'm not familiar with the language. The only reason I could move here alone was because I knew people would be meeting me at the airport to take me where I needed to go. Honestly, I've been trying to meet people here that are willing to travel with me so I can see some more places this summer. Haven't had much luck. As for the age thing, as long as you are both adults, I will never judge someone based on it. However, personally I do have a limit. I'm 28 and 7 years is my limit right now. I couldn't date someone under 21. I know even 7 years seems like a lot to some people. Of course, just a few years ago 7 years would have been too much for me. Basically, 21 is where I consider someone an adult. You don't magically reach adulthood at 18. It takes a little while. That's probably why the legal drinking age in the US is 21. (In Canada where I'm from it's 19.) Hell, I don't think I truly grew up until 25. So even some 21 year olds would be too immature, that will always be a factor.
regarding age difference, I think it matters how old they are. for example, a 15 year old dating a 30 year old seems extreme, but a 30 year old dating a 45 year old seems ok. also, guys for the most part do mature slower than girls, and along with the traditional role of a guy looking after his girl, it feels awkward for an older girl to date a younger guy. of course, this only applies below that age range when both parties are truly coming into adulthood
Stage of life - like Dan said - is what matters. Maturity is the other factor. Age is merely a general shortcut to understand where someone is in their stage of life or maturity and doesn't always correlate.
+lanbao2010 One of my friends did advise me to date a guy at least 10 years older than me. Then reasoning behind is that the guys in this age range(I'm 23) have steady jobs and are ready to settle down.
+elaine yap Personally, I've had the best luck with men who are about 5-7 years older than I am (I'm currently in my late 20s). I've tried a relationship with someone 15 years older than I was when I was 24, but that crashed and burned very terribly - though I'm not sure if that was more of an unsuitability to each other or some age-related issue. The issue with someone who's far older is that there may be a certain relationship dynamic or power hierarchy that's assumed from the start which could be desired or not depending on your personal values and preferences. I'm 27 and my husband is 43, we've been together since I was in my early 20s and I can never ever see myself with anyone else. I've always dated older men (which was much more inappropriate when I was in my teens), I was an only child and constantly around adults throughout my childhood, therefore ALWAYS found people my own age to be immature to the point of annoyance. Every time I tried going on a date with men my own age, I felt like I was babysitting more than I felt like I was on a date. I guess also I should bring up the fact that my husband didn't date anyone at all until he was in his 30s and he looks MUCH younger than he is and I look older than I am.
If both parties actually like each other, they shouldn't break up because they find out how old each other are. It's the same with judging people via their career, sometimes people find people at different times in their lives, if you truly love each other then they can make it work. I dunno. But ya, consciously targeting a specific age group is wrong, young or old.
about ages, all I see nowadays is that no matter what age is the guy (20,30 or 40) he'll go for the 20 year old girl xD oh! and the trend of older women dating younger man. For me, i'm sure too much age difference will matter somehow, unless you have the same hobbies. Because if the gap is too large, then the topics you'll have for conversations also differs, 80s and 90s has a big difference if we're talking about movies, tv series, music, etc. One of the two should know about both generations in order to carry on the conversation.
Age does matter in the sense that you have to consider how it will affect a situation, it doesn't invalidate anything though. My mom married a guy 16 years younger than her. They weathered the storm, and 10 years later things are dandy.
I eat out and traveled overseas to Japan, China and Thailand all on my own. But only just last month did I finally watch a movie in my home country alone.

This is the one thing I have disagreed with you guys on so far. Age does matter in a lot of different ways...thus the laws around legal age of consent and so forth. I draw the line of dating a guy over 10 years older than me, and dating a guy 4 years younger than me. Dating someone twice your age or older is like dating someone how could be your parent....that's just weird... I get why guys want to date females younger then them (for having children and a stable home to raise them in), I also understand why females want older men (again the same two things above, plus the extra point that these men should...And I stress should be mature man by that point.) it makes sense. But dating someone whose's young enough to be your kid is just wrong, creepy and gross. The same goes for dating someone old enough to be your parent or Grandparent for that matter... Ugh :I

You said in relationships "age ain't nothing but a number", but then you said that at a certain age one is too old to party, should be married and so on. Either age should be an issue or it shouldn't. If somebody who's older wants to party and he has a job and isn't hurting anyone, let them be - just like you don't want to be scolded for dating somebody older or younger.
In my opinion age doesn't matter, as long as the other persons not too old for you, and I'm talking 20+ years. Since I'm an adult male, I'll put it like this, the girls gotta be my age or younger, but no more than -7 years, or else too young. This does not count underage dating.
Age ain't nothin' but a number until one hits their 60s, and the other is still in their 40s. My ex was 17 yrs my senior. That was fine for 25 and 42, because 42 is still young. However, had we stuck together, I'd be married to a 62 year old now, and I'm only 45. NO. The older you get, the faster you age. Marrying closet in age is better.

Correct stay focused on your objective, acquire marketable skills, finish college, get a trade, because it equals a better lifestyle, buy your home (apartment, house, RV), travel, get married (Stop sleeping with strangers that stay one night, 3 months, 6 months, one year, two years, 5 years then brake away from you) and build an empire together. Do NOT have children out of marriage and destroy the ties that bind us. Mike has a point know who is in your FACE and why? Get to know them before you get NAKED and then later you find out you were sharing a crowded bed or wasting your time.
Dan - You've gotta be no more than 30-- a 12 year younger female would be an 18 year old. Girls, no matter how mature they seem - know *nothing* at this age about "settling down". But I agree in some respects.. once you're both past 25-27ish.. Then you're fine. You both have an idea of self and a level of self awareness that you could find someone compatible with.

I'm a college student (y.o) and I don't party. I don't understand what is so good about partying.. u spent a bunch for unnecessary amount of liquor which damaged your liver and hangover that crack your head in the morning? I can't drink and can't stand smoke so I never experienced all of that (imaginations help me) And.. I don't have much friend and was never asked to go to a party (in people's opinion I can be like loser i guess but who cares) and the thing about no need to wait for someone to go or get somewhere? I finally learned that few months after i study aboard (when I'm around 18y.o) turns out it can be a nice date with myself but i can't help it to think it'd be nice to have someone to share the moment with isn't it?

One tip he told me, is at first he did not care if he marry or not, but after awhile he feels a bit lonely, so he look for a girl who is pretty. But he tell me so many have big heads, meaning that they are rather conceited and so he look for average girls, and he find one girl who is not very pretty to look, but in her heart she so beautiful. So he get to know her, and then, he start to love her a lot, and then they got married and are still together, and carry on building relationship, and carry on learning to love each other more. Then she break your heart because she leave because you not have as much money as she had thought you had, or she call him soft rice eater. What characters do you value? Write down, and look for women with those values. And my cousin always says, you so much happier when you married, than when you not. And that's my advice to you.
