I was reading some reviews on Amazon and a person noted that if you read up on hypochlorous acid, it degrades in light so using the clear bottle they provide makes sense you'd only get 2 weeks. Apparently hypochlorous acid sold in an opaque or dark bottle lasts much longer, up to a year. I didn't look it up because I always use amber glass spray bottles for all my diy cleaning solutions anyway so I'd just use one of those even if I got this kit. I haven't decided to buy it but fyi, it's cheaper on the official site. Amazon is more expensive.

We go through a bottle every 2 weeks, but I’m curious about what someone mentioned about an amber bottle. That would be interesting to see if it was still effective after 3+ weeks. Another thing I’d be interested in, is effectiveness to just clean VS disinfect. I feel it would still do a decent job if you didn’t leave it for the full 10 min. Love it. It’s great for deodorizing as well.

Hypochlorous acid is not stable and breaks down over time, especially when exposed to light, air, or heat. The breakdown rate can vary depending on the specific conditions such as pH, temperature, and presence of contaminants. Amber glass can protect light sensitive solutions better than clear glass or plastic bottles as it prevents more UVA light from passing through. The color in amber glass helps filter damaging rays and will help keep the hypochlorous acid solution fresher for a bit longer. It's best to follow manufacturer recommendations and create a brand new batch of hypochlorous acid solution when you're ready to use, but if you want to store some in a bottle for use over a period of time, keep some chlorine and pH testing strips around so you can test your solution prior to use if it's been a few days to make sure its still effective. You'll want to aim for a pH of slightly acidic, between 5.5 - 6.5. At a neutral pH of 7, the solution is about 76% hypochlorous acid and 24% sodium hypochlorite. And chlorine levels should be between 100-200ppm.

Yes, some really positive news! Thank you a lot for testing this, confirms it does work in the real world. What is the ppm count for Force of Nature? I buy ready made electrolyzed water at 500ppm, with a recommended application time of at least one minute. Some studies show effectivity (depending on formulation) with many pathogens in even less than that, in certain cases down to seconds. You’ll have to fact check, but if I remember correctly there are only a few pathogens that needed minutes (again, formulation dependent). Would be interesting to test with different dwell times, say 5s, 10s, 30s, 1min and more, to see the difference on a set of household germs. In some cases maybe a serious reduction in pathogen count is enough, if not killing absolutely all of the most resistant ones. Another test I would be eager to see is using a wet (near dripping) paper towel with electrolyzed water, instead of spraying. Powerful spray directly on a dirty surface can ‘bounce’/splatter onto surroundings. I’ve asked a manufacturer about this but didn’t get an answer. Perhaps a two sided question, could a clean surface get pathogens from spraying a dirty adjacent surface (do splash drops carry pathogens and dry out too soon to be fully effective), or is it better to use a wet paper towel or cloth for these scenarios? For my one minute dwell time it seems reasonable to go over a surface without too much effort this way, though water tends not to form a uniform film. On a separate note, would microfiber with plain water remove bacteria close to this same performance? Some cloths claim over 99% reduction. Maybe too many ideas here, but I am set on removing harsh chemicals from my life and putting it all together, some cloths, cleaning soap and electrolyzed water seem to be enough to take care of all home cleaning. Looking forward to more on electrolyzed water!
@FieldOfFocus
@FieldOfFocus Год назад
Per force of Nature’s site: Hypochlorous Acid Solution 220 ppm Available Chlorine. I agree that dwell time varies and reading many product bottles the large majority of pathogens are eliminated under a minute, but there are some sticklers that need more time. As you know it depends on the concentration of the product in addition to the pathogen. Wetting a paper towel would be an interesting test, as well as testing various dwell times. I have tested one brand microfiber cloth ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-80QsK_EXvmM.html I plan on testing other microfiber cloths, it is on my list!! Thank you for the thoughtful comment, as you can see there are many areas to test! I will be busy for quite a while!! I am curious, what is the expiration on your 550ppm electrolyzed water?
@paul6325
@paul6325 Год назад
@@FieldOfFocus thank you, couldn’t find it on their site for some reason. Will watch the microfiber vid :) Paper towel effectivity would be wonderful to confirm one can ditch harsh chemicals. The 500ppm I buy has a shelf life of one year and they are working on an improved bottle to increase to two years. I do tend to go through quite a bit weekly and even with refill bottles waste adds up. Thinking of finding a home device instead, I hear new regulations on HOCl will be enforced around summer time in EU. Hoping for a great product afterwards. Really looking forward to more vids on all things HOCl (maybe also as laundry disinfectant on softener cycle). Thank you again for your videos!

@@FieldOfFocusThanks for taking it up! What I'm particularly interested in is the claim: the surface has reduced bacteria over a period of 48-72h. Or that the amount of bacteria is lower than "other disinfectants". This may be more difficult for you to prove, though, because the spray uses bacteria (like lactobacillus). I have no idea how you might control that without specialized equipment.

I always wonder when they say "leave wet for 10 minutes" because naturally some starts to evaporate and dry over that time...if it does that before 10 minutes is up, are we supposed to rewet it again?!
@FieldOfFocus

Force of Nature does not have any drying agents in it, so it is unlikely to dry within the 10 minutes. It could absorb, depending on the surface you are spraying. However yes, if you are using a product and it says 5 min or 10 min or 20 second wet/sit time, then you can reapply if it dries before the allotted time. Thanks for watching. Well, dang. Now I can't call this BS lol. How does it work in terms of cleaning without soaking for 10 minutes? I traditionally never soak surfaces more than 30 seconds unless I forget to wipe the area. I like to spray, and wipe, then move on. Also, I read it works well for windows to replace Windex, as in it's streak free? Also for kitchens, such as alternative for stove (grease) cleaning? Also wondering if the minute amount of vinegar somehow makes it work as a lime-away replacement for hardwater buildup/scale. I know these are all big asks.

So for each product I test, I use the manufacturers guidelines, for Force of Nature it is a 10 minute wait time.
