Often people talk about punishment from God. In reality though the consequences of sin are what naturally happens when we are not under God's protection. Mother explains this reality.

The pain of sin that motivates us to reconcile and stop sinning is Love for Him indeed. Motivation to improve ourselves for Love of Him, in the Grace of the Lord Jesus, I struggle for words to describe.

Thank you, Mother Natalia, for this explanation of sin and its consequences. Many people assume that the pain we suffer is God punishing us because so much of the Old Testament is inundated with instances were God is portrayed as actively inflicting suffering on his children for deviating from his commandments. With that said, your interpretation of suffering being more the result of the consequences of sin and its power to separate us from God, rather than God punishing us for our transgressions, makes a lot of sense. God is not some dictator, who seeks retribution against those who do not follow his edicts. Rather, God is a loving Father, who does not wish to see his children suffer, and our suffering is the result of a pride that deludes us into thinking that we can be happy living apart from his love.

That was great! A question that came to mind for me when apostasy was mentioned was, what are the benefits of life in the Church. Our separate brethren in Christ may have elements of relationship with Christ, but lack the elements and benefits of life in His Church. It would be great if I could define those to a separated brother or sister. It seems it would be a good positive response to someone who says they have Jesus, what more do they need. Obviously, the chief answer is the Eucharist, the Body of Christ. Another answer I came up with that hints at something I've heard weighs on separated brethren, might be that life in the Church has the benefit of bearing with one another. We can see very clearly that Catholics are great (comparatively) at keeping together rather than fracturing and breaking communion with groups that don't agree on every point. Obviously there are more benefits, and that will be what I pursue to find today. Thanks for the great video!
@HannahClapham
@HannahClapham 3 месяца назад
@dru6353. Maybe you should stop and think that some who watch this video are on the other side of the wall of separation. Believers to whom you offer the “left hand of fellowship.” Lovers of God with all our hearts, minds, souls, and strength whom you somehow associate with apostasy. We ought not be called “separated” brethren, as if it were our idea. We ought to be called “ostracized” brethren, for it is you who kicked us out. And not only that. Calvin said good-bye to many a missionary to France, knowing he would probably never see them again alive.
@dru6353
@dru6353 3 месяца назад
@@HannahClapham I am confused. You seem to have read much into what I said that I'm pretty sure I didn't say. Separated brethren I use as a catch all term for any non-Catholic Christian. I thought it indicated a filial bond whereas non-Catholic Christian does not. Don't be ostracized. Welcome to dialogue with a Catholic!

@@dru6353 I'm pretty sure that what she was saying was that Catholics view Protestants as if they were in schism. That the Reformers should not have left but should have tried to change things from within. But it seems more fair to say that Rome is in schism since they are the ones who made reform from within impossible. Calling us brethren is one thing. Treating us like brethren is quite another. Our churches are not considered valid churches. Our Eucharists are not considered valid Eucharists. We, supposedly, do not possess "the fullness of the Gospel." That's not very brotherly. It's condescending.
@dru6353
@dru6353 3 месяца назад
@@ericcarlson9885 so it's assumed that I said Protestants are schismatics, and I'm a bad person for doing this. Please quote where I've said that. And then you've just said is, "[...] fair to say Rome is in schism because they made reform impossible from within." (I cannot guarantee I've quoted correctly asI cannot see what I'm quoting when I type on my phone).

I'm not sure exactly how one should define misery in the context you're speaking of. I never knew God growing up, and my whole life was steeped in the pleasures of the world. I wouldn't describe my life as miserable, however. I had great friends, a way to sustain myself through honest work, and I tried to be as good of a person as I knew how to be. Coming to Jesus and accepting his love and devotion filled something in my soul that nothing else could ever could. I was certainly missing out on the ultimate fulfillment of existence, and comparatively, the happiness I had was temporary and fleeting, but I'm not sure I was misery. Unless misery is simply a separation from God, then I suppose I was miserable.

Christ is NOT only human. He is also God! To sin is indeed Very human and we will all be sinners by nature until we leave this world. We repent and are forgiven by his infinite mercy.
@mR-dc4oq
@mR-dc4oq 3 месяца назад
Here’s my argument about comparing us to the Lord Jesus. Let’s take the example of a child raised in SRA, war torn Iraq, or a violent, negligent home. As HUMANS, there are going to be repercussions especially if they are raised without the belief in God. The average among them will likely sin. We know nothing of what Christ knew or understood as a child younger than 12. There is NO comparison. To hold the lord up as an example applies only after we are saved. Then, not only is grace evidently fully operational, in theory, free will is available to us. How much, depending on the circumstances, is behavior compulsory in the damaged human, until Christ lifts them up?

This is a nice segment, but I find that it really doesn’t address the video title’s question very much. Her answer seems to boil down to “No, we just suffer the natural consequences of sin,” which I disagree with. And if that’s not what she thinks, then it should have been more directly addressed in the video. Maybe the title should be different.
