I break down why you might need to cut the nail form, and the technique I use.

Great video. Suzie never hurt me even when she was wiggling the form under. And at the time of filming my left thumb had a high hyponychium and that would’ve been a great video to cut the form.

I've been doing this for years (I do my own nails, self/youtube taught) and I always found it odd no one talks about this... so of course Suzie will have an entire video about it! Love your channel, learning more every day. Wishing every nail tech would learn from you too.

I have a lot of trouble with fitting forms (I only work on my own hands) on about half my fingers. I’m going to try trimming the forms a bit to see if it helps! Thanks again for a great vid, you’re such a clear and talented teacher. ❤

I’ve recently starting forming my own hybrid gel to add thickness (preschool teacher and don’t want to “attack” children 😅.) I’ve had issues any time I need to full form, and it genuinely never occurred to me I’d need to cut the middle. Definitely going to try this next time.

Susie this is good information! Please do a video on how to treat splitting skin around your nails and what not to do. It's so painful, and once it starts I don't know how to stop it!

Make note it is tough to form yourself So don’t be hard on yourself about it

For people who file their own nails (or have them filed by someone else who also makes the following mistake) - it is really common to over file at the junction of the hyponychium and the sidewalls. When this area of the free edge is over filed and is no longer there, repairing this area is desired and needed for certain nail shapes. I have been guilty of this and add in some puffy nail folds, getting the form to fit up in that spot is very difficult (to avoid having gel products touch the skin). The "cat ear" form cut is helpful for this, but also covering this skin with liquid latex or nail apron is another way to prevent gel from touching the skin. This is less necessary for acrylic or some hybrid gels, because those products can float and bridge the area between the nail and the form and not touch the skin (as long as the L&P ratio is correct of course!).

When you first started talking about cutting the form I thought you meant cutting it from the roll and I thought that people were just being precious! So glad I stayed tuned!😂❤

Something else to add, i think, not all forms are created equal. Some may fit better than others.

this is the most helpful video I’ve ever seen about cutting and using forms - I have some but every time I tried using them I would trim them cause a korean nail artist I watch frequently trims hers so I thought you had to but then they wouldn’t fit my nail properly and I could t figure out why cause I thought I was using them “the right way.” thank you!!

What would you recommend for someone with super thin nails when doing our own nail prep for hybrid nails? I'm always very concerned with buffing the nail too much, because how thin they are.

I have puffy side walls and a high c-curve. I can't put a form on any of my nails, the skin on the side pushes the form away and I can't get the form under the very side of my nails. I've found c-curve tips work better because of those issues.

@@NailCareerEducation so you're saying I shouldn't feel burning when I put the builder gel under the UV lamp...? 🫢
@wendymoyer782
@wendymoyer782 28 дней назад
@@TopCatsFatDuckSuzie did address this in an earlier video. If I remember correctly, when it gets to be painful, pull your hand out, carefully, for a few seconds, then reinsert, and continue to cure the gel. Do make certain you cure for the full time required by the product; you may need to add time to make up for time your fingers weren't under the lamp. Hope that helps.
@TopCatsFatDuck
@TopCatsFatDuck 28 дней назад
@@wendymoyer782 thanks Wendy 😊 Yes that's exactly what I do, I thought perhaps I'd done something wrong for it to feel so hot in the first place. I must have missed that video, will go look for it now.
@katrivanhatalo2207
@katrivanhatalo2207 27 дней назад
@@TopCatsFatDuck It may be that your layers are a little too thick (the more product the stronger the exothermic reaction), but it may just be the kind of gel and/or the lamp. My builder gel is lovely in every other way, but it heats up massively in my new, more powerful lamp. Some lamps have a weaker setting for 90 seconds, so that may help with the heat build up, but just taking your had out when it starts to feel like it's warming up is perfectly ok as long as you keep it in long enough after the heat dies down. I find that if you wait until it's already uncomfortably hot to take it out, you're too late and it'll HURT

Hiya Susie, I’m a self taught nail form sculptor, thank you for all of your wonderful tutorials! I love your calm and sweet vibes. One question, is it possible to prevent acrylic/polygel from getting under the nail? Even with I think the nail form is flush with my nail, I always get a thin layer under my nails , and after some time there’s room for gunk I have to be OCD about cleaning. Or is it just inevitable?
@NailCareerEducation
@NailCareerEducation 15 дней назад
It’s pretty much inevitable I mean some nails it’s hard to be flush and some are meant to fit forms perfectly / so don’t worry bout it - so many great bits for that
@desireeJ0y
@desireeJ0y 14 дней назад
Hiya Susie! Thank you so so very much for letting me know. I have been trying to find the answer to this question and I appreciate you letting me know that it’s inevitable. My nails are pretty long and curved, so a get a thin layer under my nail. And after a few days, they do lift and I can gently file them flush with my poly gel. Once my nails get long enough, I won’t need the form. You the best + sweetest nail artist ever!

I often struggle with forms, and end up using 3-4 before I get a good enough fit. Could it be because I have "spoon nails"? They grow upwards and are often very flat.

This is quite unrelated but something I noticed in your video. When I apply nail forms I usually have the tabs that you rip to split before placement overlapping on my finger to fit comfortably. I am a lady with very small hands, is that why the form tabs do not overlap on Angel's hand, his hand is bigger perhaps? Or am I placing them improperly? So many questions.
@Isissa125
@Isissa125 28 дней назад
those tabs are mostly preference. I cut a V shape into the tab at the back because I find it gets in the way when Im forming on myself (only one hand to work with!) it can help keep a form steady or pull it up a little bit, but isn't necessary if you get a good fit otherwise.
