I feel like, if you're going to rate on historic playability, it's worth saying *when* a card came out. LAD would never be considered a good card if it was released 5 years ago rather than 15
But LADD was amazing when it was played. And Oh So easy to normal summon. I played LADD in MonarchSworn, turn 1, LADD, and then them getting pissed, having to waste at least 2 cards to get it to 1800 before being able to do stuff.
I think it would be best if cards are only judged based on how good they are currently. Voxy wouldn't know when cards are released and so it's kinda unfair when she loses points just because the card came out a long time ago instead of recently
@reshiwashere from the videos I've seen with stevie and rarran he did it just like how farfa did in this video and I didn't like it then either. Though of course people are gonna have different opinions on this
@@rescuerex7031 Same rules still apply, you can say that mirror force is bad curently because it's too slow and that answer doesn't change even if you say that it used to be good 20 years ago
@@Kayze330 The later videos i think specifically the latest two yes. But the rest more popular ones a lotta older cards that “were historically good” were judged as too slow by modern standards. Which is whatever. I personally don’t think the answer and complaining about whether its correct or not was the main appeal of the vid. Have a nice day 👍
Dark witch is technically a small world bridge. U can go from any light monster to any drytrob with this. Technically every card is a bridge tho,so, un, yeaaaahhh…
Here are some close mtg equivalents for those who may only know that side: Book of Eclipse : Dress Down Mirror Force Launcher: Long Term Plans PSY-Framegear Gamma: Subtlety Terrors of the Overroot: Chaos Warp Ancient Leaf: Faithful Mending Light and Darkness Dragon: Decree of Silence
Chat being stupid with "Terrors of the Overroot". "It's a trap card, thus bad". "It's too slow". "It's too conditional". Damn, didn't know Farfa's chat was bunch of Bronze and Silver players.
I still don't get how it's good, even ignoring the trap part, it's a bad effect it's Targeted Destruction which is already mid, that replaces the opponent's card, it's purely a neg 1, it's good purely cuz of circumstance, this is a bad effect normally
@@rescuerex7031 it sends and it doesn t destroy, the one niche it has over othr traps. it is a debatable "okay at best" trap, that depending on the meta, can be an okay pick for a trap/control centered deck or not. similar to ice dragons prison.
@@rescuerex7031 First, it doesnt destroy. it sends, and it can send any card not just monsters. That's why it's very good, no other trap labrynth can use fills this niche. Lab is the only deck that can use also because it can generate so much advantage that going minus on paper doesnt matter, sometimes you just need to get rid of something that badly. also it can screw link, pendulum and backrow decks quite a bit since you choose where the card will be set
A pile of junk versus an actual deck in Magic (outside of some of the highest power formats) either loses fairly quickly or very handily. A pile of junk versus an actual deck in Yugioh probably doesn't get to play. It's very different and very funny all at once.
looking at the comments of your stream chat are hilarious. "its a bad card because you dont main deck it. she was right". okay so droll and lock bird is a bad card now? your side deck is just full of bad cards i guess guys.
Book saw no play except for 1 specific format. It's trash at any point of history throughout this game and I believe it's already dropped out the meta now
@@dragonmaster951753lmao you haven't played this game long enough then Eclipse was mained by decks like mermails and masked heroes in mr3 for like 2 years
I like these types of videos but whenever I see one I wish we had someone with them who plays both games to explain it to the person who doesn't know it. Like with Gamma it would be really easy to explain to Voxy that it's just Force of Will on a body
While these are great videos I've always wanted to see a magic or yugioh player look at good/broken generic cards and ask how good they would be in the other game. Like how good would Nib be or Triple tactics talents/thrust.
It's one of the best removal traps, it's very flexible because it can target any card and doesn't destroy, and setting a monster to the opponent's board is good against kashtira. Still not played in any deck that doesn't run a high trap count, but by the rules of this game it is a good card because it's been meta relevant.
Its not a good card,, being a playable card in a 100th or so best deck in the game doesn't make it good And Lab is lucky if I call it top 100. And note how its only playable in Lab... far from staple in said LAB deck.
It is insane how it's so easy to transition from yugioh to any other TCG but no one in any other TCG can even fathom the concept of like a negate and destroy. Like MTG is arguably more complex than yugioh but the average game of yugioh will be leagues more complex than anything in modern magic. All the fundamentals of card game design apply to yugioh sans the resource system. As a yugioh player if you grasp that for each given game, then you know everything already.
Agreed. Farfa put it best: Yugioh is like Magic but with infinite mana. You have gas from turn one, what you choose to do is up to you. People who are used to a resource system get overwhelmed by the relatively infinite number of choices. There is no resource system that artificially slows down turns 1-3.
I don't think Yugioh is much more complex than legacy, vintage and, these days, even modern. Yugioh doesn't have a lot of real decision points. Combos tend to be just the same thing you practiced, with no thinking required. Same with disrupting your opponent. Unless you do it at the right spot it's just throwing away a card with little to no pay off.
@@xXSamir44Xx You're conflating what you could do with what you should do. The combos you're talking about are what you should do, and these lines are shared and studied by everyone. But that doesn't take away from the fact that mechanically, there are points where other choices could be made. Whether they should be made is a different topic. Take a Dragunity deck. Which dragon do you summon off of Heiratic Dragon King of Atum's effect? Potentially any of them. The decision still needs to be made.
@mansman2167 Magic having a resource system doesn't automatically mean the game is slowed down. There are decks in the EDH (elder dragon highlander) format that can kill multiple opponents in 1 or 2 turns with the right hand.
@@kevinkijowski5980 referring to the average game of commander versus the average game of Yu-Gi-Oh. Yu-Gi-Oh will have the faster, shorter turns for a game on average. But each action by the players will have to be layered through multiple points of interaction. And the average number of actions that can be taken by a Yu-Gi-Oh player uninterrupted is greater than the average amount of actions taken in a turn of magic uninterrupted. Also Yu-Gi-Oh has its fair share of turn 0-1 kills
Mirror Force Launcher has an interesting kind of mind trick you can play where you draw mirror force and immedietly set a different card in your spell/trap zone and your opponent assumes its mirror force and destroys it. Though also for that reason, your opponent can know what you are drawing and regular mirror force in of itself is not so great these days. I play a Mirror Force deck on master duel btw.
I don't think Terrors of the Overroot was good for this video. It is and can be good but it doesn't see that much meta application due to being outclassed and a random Ghost Belle or Skull Meister can do more work in that slot.
For Book do Eclipse can’t you also use it on your own turn to set down any formidable attackers your opponent has, making you able to attack them without their effect potentially happening and also ideally they have a weaker defense And that way you destroy their monster and they don’t draw cards? EDIT: I needed to watch a few more seconds lmao
Farfa has the yugituber video making to a tea he checked all the boxes. Girl, comparing yugioh to magic, feeding the yugioh troglodytes belief of "complexity = better game" and having the same face reaction thumbnails in a row.
...wait..soooo if any card was good at one point then you are calling it good? Thats idiotic. LAD was ok maybe 10-15 years ago, and comparing that to lets say a modern good card is pointless. Reason being theres plenty of newer cards with slighlty better effects that are considered trash mostly because they came out now when lets say 10 years ago those exact same cards wouod have been considered broken if they were released back then instead of today. Like sone trap cards that are now available are considered unplayable because they are too slow but back in the day they woukd be game changers.
MTG totally has Garnets. Drawing Tendrils in ANT, drawing Terminus in Miracles, drawing your equipment in CawBlade, drawing your basics in NicFit, drawing your dragons in Dragonstorm. Some of these are more okay to draw than others. But you never really want to draw any of them
@@ZackeroniAndCheese but do they have like a term for them like we do when we refer to all of them as garnets? On the hearthstone side I've totally seen people draw a voidlord and be "damn I drew patches"
Haven’t heard of a general term, most likely just because effects that require cards to be pulled “from deck” specifically are really rare. Usually, if you draw a card you were going to search it ends up “only” being a net -1 to card advantage. Cases where it bricks your entire combo are usually only for decks that want specific cards to be in the graveyard and not in hand.
@@ttt3142 it's funny how in YGO we differentiate between soft garnets and hard garnets for exactly this distinction. For the record patches the pirate was a hard garnet, and voidlord was a hard garnet but you played 2 so in practice it was soft (also in some lists you wanted to draw it)
@@tcoren1 As a follow-up to my previous comment, the entire combo package of Dread Return, Thassa’s Oracle, and Narcomoeba(x4) has multiple cards you don’t want to draw. But regarding Garnet/Patches as a game term, I suppose the actual benchmark is not the general prevalence of the effect, but rather how memorable the ONE most memorable example is.
Terrors is kinda weird to evaluate, it's only good in a single deck because that deck can turbo it onto the field, and only then it becomes a valuable interruption. But in any other deck it's completely unplayable because it's an unsearchable going first mid disruption that can be replaced by a ton of better options.
But it is a good card played in a meta deck Or are we going to argue that rescue ace turbulence is a bad card because there's only one meta deck playing it?
It's actually just a bad card imo. Basically bad Book of Moon in practise, only comes up in very situational scenarios where maybe Booking is less good. It was only played in Lab because it was searchable, though Daruma basically powercrept that purpose
@@dio8156 it is very different to book of moon since it can hit links and you can clog an important space by for example placing the set monster in a link arrow
It's not even good though because sending to GY is worse than bouncing (CED) and both cards target so they're both affected by the same protection. Like the other guy said though, Daruma is better than both 90% of the time (only exception is against decks who wanna fuse with stuff on field or hand, but not in grave)
Book of Eclipse, turn your opponent's monsters face down, and your own monster's face down... hehe boi, Cyber Jar, Morphing Jar and Morphing Jar#2 says hello. Also say hello to my little friend, All-Out Attacks. Yes, there's the Morphing Jar#2 plus Poison Mummy combo, with All-Out Attacks, or the Morphing Jar#2 plus Needle Worm combo... But let's not forget that there used to be a deck that were just Morphing Jar + Card Destruction... But the most painful way for your opponent to lose to Fun Flip monsters, is MJ#2 + Hiro's Shadow Scout. Force your opponent to draw 3 until they deck out.
okay i’m 90% sure this was another yugituber’s video, but i heard of a double duel tournament where both members of the team had multiple magic leaves in their deck, and that seems pretty based
I mean, to be fair, foxy does have a point about not playing Moon of Eclipse if it means flipping faceup monsters to face down to then allow your draw that number of cards at the end phase to help your opponent. I get why she said that
the closest analogue to a garnet in magic is a brick. combo decks are just trying not to brick because of how many times they have to rely on draws and how little search x to search y to search z type chains there are. alternatively any land is a garnet when you're in topdeck mode lol
Terrors of the overroot is also neat because it doesn't just remove a card from field, it is also gy disruption. Still not something you play in many decks, but as far as trap cards go very good.
One thing about Book of Eclipse that didnt get mentioned is that well, the only reason it saw play is because Dark Ruler No More wasnt an answer to Kashtira, but this was. Outside of the Kashtira matchup, which is now bearable thanks to the banlist, Dark Ruler No More is usually just a better card going 2nd. Book of Eclipse still suffers from the problem of potentially drawing cards, as well as Ash Blossom just instantly stopping this card in its tracks. Not to mention it can still be easily negated by a monster effect. So yea honestly Id still say its overall kind of bad, mid at best.
@@Latias38 it does have applications being able to be set turn 1 and also it is still better then drnm due to purrelies mere existence. however its not nearly the staple it was for a time period
farfa should judge the cards based on current format she doesnt know when the cards come out and the format during that time (well she may not know current format, but atleast its generalized) simple example on the video is [mirror force launcher] if [mirror force launcher] come out during [mirror force] good time it arguable can be good card, popping card is harder back then so making opponent waste it on [mirror force launcher] is good and yes i know opponent will not attack so their card wont be destroyed but it did prevent opponent to beat you (i guess you can say it still bad cause popping is harder then the card might not resolve, thats why i say its arguable) and what would the verdict for [grinder golem]? its good now, but during the time it come out that card basically trash would it be wrong if she say "its bad"? if the card have been staple just put it as additional info dont judge the card based on that info
I agree with her about Gamma. Gamma is fucking garbage. It requires you to run a completely dead card that does absolutely nothing but clog your hand any time you're unfortunate enough to draw it, AND gamma itself is quite literally useless on any and every turn except the first turn, and even then, you have to be going second. It is BY FAR the worst staple hand trap. It's even more situational than droll and lock. Card is absolutely fucking terrible.
Book isnt good. It literally only beats kashtira. You dont play it in any other format. Not during a link format, not during a multi negate board format, not into tear format, not into literal any format beaides kash. It wasnt even played when it came out.
I am a Krawler player and my deck is a Link deck. Book of Eclipse locks your opponent down and you can activate your Flip effects in your turn again. And it is amazingly good against Mikanko, because that deck relies on Equipment spells, but also against Xyz decks like Kashtira and Purrely.
I've watched a lot of these kinds of videos from other creators and I have to say Farfa does a great job translating the cards so they are understandable
Farfa please invite someone from cardmarket yugioh bc a lot of them really don't understand yugioh cards even if they act like they do lmao at least bring the professor on
This is a pretty unfair video, you didn't give her enough context and sometimes you straight up lie to her. You're seriously gonna call LADD a good card in 2023? the card sucks and hasn't seen play since 10+ years ago, so why lie and say it's good?
If you actually watched the video it was mentioned multiple times that if the card was ever good it would count. Just like mirror force counted last video! LADD was one of the best boss monsters ever made so yes, it counts.
"You can book an activated effect on summon" stop lying to people on these types of shows bro, just let them cook on their own. it's funnier when you don't trick them and they still get it wrong
